TODAY, TOMORROW, YESTERDAY

This has been my week with the Veterans Administration doctors for the many considerations and changes in meds, therapy and compensations. Today was on Monday, I was told, but Monday passed. Then it was "we will get to that tomorrow." That was Tuesday. Yesterday passed, thats history. Tomorrow is Friday, the future, "never put off for tomorrow what you can do today" So now I know "Today is present," and "Tomorrow is future," that leaves "Yesterday as history."   Government for the average citi

Good News for Handicap Movie goers

Well, today was a good day. I had been working on several projects, one being more room for wheelchairs and scooters in the theaters. I got the letter saying my request had been considered and board approved, more room is now available in each of the twelve cinemas, isn't that a blast. I always say ask, the worse that can happen is, the answer being no. Then you reapply or appeal their decision. We already had the large bathrooms and necessary parking spaces, a little far from the entrance, but

A. A. A. D. D.

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D... Recently, last week, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D... Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.   I think I got it really bad. I Blogged about spring time coming a couple weeks ago, maybe just one week ago, I can't remember now and I don't have time to check. Anyway, I decided to water my grass, it's really dry here in Texas.   As I turned on the hose and standing in the driveway, I look over at my car and decided it needs a good washing. As

Stroke Prevention

Well, here I go again, off on one of my many wondering roads leading to, this time, stroke prevention. Is there such a thing? The old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or something to that effect. Wouldn't it be nice to know there was something we could have done to prevent what happen to us when it did. Tell-tell signs to prevent strokes like the signs that tell you are having a stroke.   It just seems to me that some sort of research can determine a preventative

Heading into the month of SPRING

Here we go, heading into the month of March with record breaking warm temps projected. That's on the heels of 6 more weeks of bad weather, according to the Ground Hog's prediction after seeing his shadow on Feb 2nd.   Some areas still covered in snow and ice, even here in central Texas, just over a week ago, we had icy roadways and many accidents. Many cars still in body shops awaiting repairs, which are running 4 weeks behind. Today, the projected high temp is a record breaking 82 degrees.

Public School Teachers

At this time of night, I finally finished the morning daily news. My attention was centered around several articles in the same newspaper about teachers (Public Schools) mostly women in their 30's who get with boys in their early teens and under. I can't for the life of me, see the continued cause or drive they acquire to have sex with these kids.   Now I can't go to sleep, wondering what motivates them to go that route. This latest case involves a child 11 years old and she is 36 in Laurens,

Chemistry of Love

I added my 2 cents worth to a post in relationships by a member who feels like she has taken on the roll of mother, instead of caregiver. The passion they once shared is now gone since he became a survivor.   Interesting enough, Love is mostly in the brain. Atleast that's what Lauren Slater writes in National Geographic Magazine in a fascinating February cover piece, simply titled, "Love."   For the first time, new research has begun to illuminate where love lies in the brain, the particul

Winter Time

Well, here we are in January already with 3 days left in the month. Seems like the christmas decorations just been put away, and in my part of the country, we have not used the heater yet. I suppose the global warming is still a factor. That's a good thing with the early prediction of how much the heating would cost us this winter. I think across the board, the prices has risen sharply for gas, coal, and electric services.   I think there has to be some colder days ahead and more rain in sta

One Year as a Member

Today marks another mile stone in my life. One year today, as a greatful stroke net board member. I want to thank all the wonderful members and staff under the watchful eye of our CEO, Steve.   I can say I was here when we reached a big mile stone of over 4,000 members on this site. I know it will not take long for us to reach the 5,000 member mark. :cocktail: :happydance: :roflmao:

Fantasy Imagination

Getting out of bed real early this morning gave me the mind to imagine. Like a genie giving me ONE wish to think of something I would rather have in my current condition. Not counting real health or recovery, just a fun thing to fantasize about for the fun of imagination.   I came up with a right arm that could stretch out, like plastic man cartoons from long time ago. That way, I could be seated at the kitchen table, reach the microwave, refrig, and sink without having to get up. Then on day

All the new stuff

All the new stuff on the board really makes one search, try out, use the buttons, whistles and other stuff we probably never noticed until now. I am surprised by the number of members that has not visited the map page and don't have avatars. Not that it's a must in either case. More like something to play around with.   I found out not long ago, there is a bible study on this site and a section about our CEO, and a guess book to sign, showing you have visited. How many have noticed Steve has

NO BLOGS TODAY??

It's late night, I can't imagine going to bed and not having a blog to read for the 18th. So, since I have rehab tomorrow, Thursday, in the pool, I just want to say, if you get depressed at your current condition, just get over to the VA hospital in your town and see the many people in different conditions. Some better, some worse conditions than yours. It gives you more strength and courage to continue your rehab, exercise and medications to cope with a slower pace in life.   Feel good that

A Day At/In the ER

ALL day in the ER, what a way to celebrate, but today, I feel 100% better with less pain.   It even sparked me to search and fine an old inspirational message I had for quite some time. I think a christmas or two ago. Anyway I posted it today, if you get a chance please read it. I think all will agree that friends are forever, same as family. We are all in this survivor mode for life.

2 years Today

Well I made it to this 2 year survivor mark. With all the stats about surviving a stroke or living past a certain time brings a smile to the faces of those that go past certain time frames.   Sometimes it does seem like the next day is a struggle to survive, as I feel at the moment. The pain is so great on on my left side this morning, my wife had to help me get out of bed, give me pain meds and help me sit in my chair.   I just can't understand what my body is doing or the change I'm expe

Anniversary Eve

Well this day is the Eve of my much anticipated 2 year recovery time tomorrow, the 15th. Like any other day, My mind is wondering. I'm still hoping for a somewhat normal left side control like I had about 6 months after my stroke up until a few months ago. That makes me think,(thats dangerous), about the brain cells that didn't die right away. Do they just remain dormant, half dead, or do they, in time, die also?   I feel like they died to cause me to have less control. I asked my neuro doc,

Friday the 13th

Tomorrow is FRIDAY the 13th, we have one more this year. I suppose for some members it will be a lucky day. For me, I'm looking forward to Sunday the 15th, my 2 year anniversary as a survivor of a terrible brain attack. Still not able to walk far, work, or do so many things I had invisioned for my life and marriage. But that's life, there are no for sures' or certaintees, except taxes and death we all have to pay one day.   I hope we all could be very lucky and gain more movement and control

Stroke Connection Magazine

In the new Stroke Connection Magazine are two articles on Caregiving, makes sense to me. Make sure you caregivers read this one for comfort things to do in coping with caring for a stroke survivor. It's too lenghty to even start to quote here, so I hope all get a chance to read it. Page 7 is a study on caregiving and page 13, the Respite Zone. Creating your Own Haven. I can see where that's needed from the comments I read on the board here. That's the January/February 2006 issue just out.

Glad the BLOG page has RETURNED

:roflmao: I suppose I'm just one happy camper because the blog page is back. Now I got to remember where I put my blog stuff I had been saving up. I found it just now.   That's my Boy, Story of a dog.   A young southern boy goes off to college, but about a third way through the semester, he has foolishly squandered what money his parents gave him.   Then he gets an idea, he calls his daddy. "Dad," he says, "you won't believe the wonders that modern education are coming up with! Why, the

My Thoughts For Life In 2006

Give people more than they expect, and do so cheerfully.   Don't believe all I hear, and only part of what I see.   In disagreements, always smile, fight fair, no name calling.   Don't judge people by their relatives.   I will say, "Bless you" when I hear someone sneeze. I used to say that, but stopped.   When I realize I've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.   Stop saying "yellow" when I answer the phone. It's a long time habit.   Remember that silence is s

The New Year is Coming

The new year is upon all of us. In Japan it's the year of the Dog and starts a little later than in the US. The year of the rooster wasn't that great for the whole wide world. Could things improve, will the big ball drop ok in times square, will Dick Clark, at the age of 76,stroke survivor, be alright????   I guess we will have to wait until TOMORROW NIGHT for the answers. Here's hoping a HAPPY NEW YEAR for all the members of Strokenet and FOUNDERS especially, for a great place to exercise ou

Christmas Eve 2005

Well, well, well we have all arrived, just one week, 7 days before the end of another year in the lives of many Survivors and Caregivers. That's my point, we are still here, although others have departed.   If your new year's resolution was to lose weight, can you do it in 7 days? If it was to feel better, I'll bet you made some improvements. I hope everybody made their expectations come true.   I will hope the troops in harms way get to come home to their families and friends next year.

Emotions and Positive Feelings

Survivors especially has to deal with emotions and try to stay positive. All caregivers cover the same grounds in caring for a survivor. This life after a stroke takes it's toll on the body, soul and for sure the mind.   It never crossed my mind when I was released from the hospital after 3 months, that the battle and struggle to keep a positive attitude could be this complexed. I'm thinking it's because now it's two, survivor and caregiver trying to work together, but in different frames of

First Day Of Winter

First Day Of Winter at 1205pm, somehow that would be debateable by those who have already experienced many feet of snow, severe cold tempertues, even had accidents due to the weather.   One thing for sure, it's cold and snow is still falling. The snow birds will be packing for their trip south to Florida where tempetures are a mild 80 degrees currently. The snowflakes are falling here on strokenet, how neat!   I'm not near New York, but I can imagine the weather is a factor for stroke surv

Affects of a Stroke

With tax time lurking around the corner, you can't help but think how much money has been spent on medical bills and exemptions you are entitled to claim. I'm wondering about the blindness exemption if you are, or can be considered legally blind.   Then you wonder, while we have suffered brain damage, are paralyzed with limited use of hands and limbs, why couldn't it be considered like a person who lost a finger, a hand or an eye, be in the same catagory. If you have the insurance, they pay f
