My wife's Birthday

Yesterday, July 9th, was my wife's 62nd birthday which she enjoyed very well. She came home from work at 6 pm and wanted to eat out at Applebee's restaurant so we took our grand daughter too and she ate good and enjoyed being out to eat for a change!! Normally I go pick up food for all of us when my wife get home or having it here when she get home!!   Today she has Praise dance practice at church so she will stop after her practice and get her a bite to eat I'm sure!! We'll find something or

I'm Learning So Much About Recovery And Living After A Stroke!

I'm nearing nine years after my stroke and I have that many years in discovering how strokes are in each person's life and the number of other people it affects! When you think you are the only one with a problem all you need to do is read some of the members blogs!! We are all in the same boat and the problems are more for some and maybe less for others but overall we are going through the same hoops dealing with recovery of a stroke and giving care to the survivors around the world!   Being

Post Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

This is a disorder many soldiers suffer with and have for many years. In earlier wars it was called Shell Shock then to my knowledge from the Vietnam war to Iraq and Afghanistan it was known as PTSD. In fact the military didn't have the name PTSD when I left Vietnam in 1970-71. So it was very hard for me to get a reason I acted like I did and no one knew why. By 1982 it was known as PTSD and I submitted my claim for disability after I was confirmed as having it.   It was not until 2010 when I

Laughing Matters In The News Paper

Have you ever felt like you need to cry a little or maybe laugh too?? After all we are still alive and functional so just because we survived the stroke or we are giving care to our loved ones sometimes we need a break to catch our breath, breathe in and out to lower our blood pressure then cry or maybe even laugh or smile a little while our minds take a break from all that work and thinking we do so well! I posted this morning in the Off Topic Form a paper on senior news that may interest many

Memorial Day For The Troops

Well, I said I wasn't going to try and write a Blog but I couldn't resist writing about Memorial Day as a disabled Veteran myself and can hardly walk even with my quad cane.... Today it was so many veterans out and about doing things with their families and kids.... My two kids are all full grown and got grown kids of their own and grand kids as well....   Being here at Fort Hood, Texas, a military post with thousands of active duty troops, two hospitals, and many, many retired veterans with s

The Little Pups Are Growing Big

"It was Labor Day" the six little pups were born to a three year old mom, a registered Shih Tzu, and I see they are growing big to have been so little at birth.... Their eyes are still not open yet and the mom stays real close to them all the time as she can hear the sound they make no matter where she is in the house she will come to them....   My grand daughter is so proud of her and the little ones too so she is around them when she is home and when she get home from school each day she wan

No One Knows!

I woke up to real bad news this morning about a lone gunman taking innocent lives in a movie theater last evening at a special midnight showing of "Batman" the movie! That tells me no one knows when, where or how their final days will be in this world! Even a three month old baby was killed by this lone gunman that just so happen to be in Colorado again!   I want to think the stroke I had eight years ago may have kept me alive this long by restricting my abilities to travel as I once did yearl

Things Talked About In The 50's

Finder Skirts: Some of you won't understand but I bet you know someone who does! That person being anyone that was around in the 1950's as a teenager perhaps! Well now those teenager are grand parents well over the age of a teenager but no doubt talked about Fender Skirts, Curb Feelers, Steering Knobs (aka) suicide knobs or necker knobs! That was the accessories most cars had in the 50's and 60's plus the Continental kits that was a rear bumper extender and spare tire covers that made any car co

I Lost A Brother This Morning In Houston Texas

Things happen all the time and this morning was one of those times. I received the phone call earlier that my brother above me by a few years passed away at the hospital with his wife of many years right by his side. They came back to Houston last year from making California their home all their adult lives since high school.   It's been like a roller coaster ride for them the past few months in dealing with their kids and all the bickering because of his condition. I think his condition was p

Here is Hoping Another World War Will Not Start

I'm sure many of you are hearing about Iran's plans for a nuclear war and terrorist attacks around the world? That's the last thing any country needs now! There is enough fighting going on right now and to start more fighting is not the thing to do for most economy's! That worries me greatly! All I can do is pray it doesn't happen but this world has known wars and rumors of wars for generations! At no time will everyone be satisfied with what we have in each country! Fred!

Cause Of My Condition

Well, to all of you caring members, friends, fellow survivors, and the care givers of Stroke Net!   The doctors have discovered what caused my condition to go downhill. After days of testing and examinations of my whole body it was found my digestive system is contaminated with major bad bacteria. My colonospy was great and all went well as I was very near asleep and out of it. My wife witness the whole operation and saw the areas of my colon, stomach, liver and areas where cancer starts plus

We Made It Back From My Brother's Funeral

Well, we made it back yesterday from my brother's funeral and Home Going services. It was a trying time for me since he was a month away from his 89th birthday. He was a devoted Christian Like our mom was. I learned he was also a deacon in his church and was always there for duty. In fact I remember he joined that same church way back in 1950 and been active there since. He was given a great funeral in all respects.   We only had one brother and one sister that was unable to attend by being so

This Year Is Moving On Too!!

You all heard of the saying, "Time waits for no one" right?? Well just in my mind and thoughts this year is already doing just that...moving on and waiting for no one!! When you think about it Christmas seems like last week but that was the New Year just getting started on 1 January now tomorrow is the 6th of January already and my emails are letting me know I got some bills going to be due pretty soon!!   It seem like I would get a little brake since I don't have any new bills just the same o

Do You Sit Sometimes And Just Wonder??

I'm a great wanderer and was like that before the stroke but here lately I have started wondering how would I have been had I not learned to walk, started driving again or lost another wife for the fourth time?? Then when I come back to my senses I have to give thanks to my God for allowing me to heal in all the right places at a time much sooner than I had expected!   After five months in the hospital I said Oh, Oh, I'm going to need help for the rest of my life, what did I do so bad to deser

Reflections Of Prayer In The Time Of Need

You know, believe it or not...We've all been there in our prayer to our God we know and trust! Prayer is not conquering God's reluctance, but taking hold of God's willingness. Just a week ago the F5 tornado hit Joplin, Missouri with over 200 miles per hour twisting winds. In a matter of seconds lives were lost, homes destroyed and part of a whole city was destroyed.   We, like all others, will never know why these kinds of things happens on earth in our world. Let's not forget weeks prior; Ala

Away From Home

Honestly, one never knows what tomorrow brings. We had no rain in Texas for so long it was a drought. Now I'm in Louisiana, it's raining and the Mississippi river water is coming this way next week. I would think it being 15 feet below sea level and thw river water is coming, some homes will be lost again! We are helping grab what we can and hitail it back to Texas.   I've never drove so much, worked so hard as a disabled man as I am doing now. That tells me love has no limits in doing for fam

A Stroke Is No Joke!

Well you guys and gals I really thank you for all your kind comments and especially the prayers you all sent my way. I thank you too for those I tried to say the right words to in getting them welcomed here on our support board when they were called Newbies as new members.   I don't know how it seems I got up from my stroke ahead of some other even after spending five months in the hospital and rehab to learn how to do things survivors are supposed to learn how to do for themselves quickly. NOVEMBER IS HERE

And now today we set the clocks back an hour except for the states and regions of the world that doesn't have daylight saving time zones like Arizona for instance! It was always fun to leave Arizona and getting to the Hover Dam going into Las Vegas and see the time zone has changed!   Have any of you been on that winding mountain road and crossed the Hover Dam?? I tell you if there is ever a bus tour and the bus driver is speeding they certainly will not make it out alive because it's a long w

Seems Like I been On Site Here For Many, Many Years!!!!!

I feel so, so old these days when I see the new members join us and most of them are doing pretty good where as I still feel I'm still recovering from the one stroke that got me here 12 years ago...... I start to think when will I be able to do things again as I once could do years ago since age is not on my side at 75 years old now.... I felt the same way after I got back from Vietnam and out of the hospital realizing my life was going to be a bit different and I would life a bit longer......

My Wife Made It Back Home

She got back today tired as can be from driving that 8 hours from New Orleans to Killeen Texas and all the wedding hoopla for a couple days. I don't think I would have made it staying awake all that time at my age. She says a good time was had for all attendees and plenty food and drinks to quench any thrust. She says her feet are tired and she is too because at this time she is in the bed snoring a bit that means her body is awful tired. I don't imagine they got any sleep at all or not much be

Something Is Happening To My Recovery Process

I am seeing 2 doctors, taking several meds, had my colonoscopy, but now I'm told I got serious medical issues they telling my wife. I have trouble walking now. I am one day away from the day of the stroke I survived 10 years ago!   I am close to my cellphone and my wife calls me every two hours as I'm a little afraid to be home alone and got one apt at 130pm two hours from now!

What's Next? The Times Ahead

Well, for many of us we can look ahead to what's next for us. Yea, Easter is gone, tax time gone, spring half gone, so we look forward to more recovery and care giving plus summer time is now just ahead of us. In some states the weather is still a bit cooler than normal but overall not so bad! Not much else to speak of around my house. I guess the big election is almost in full swing soon as the republican candidate is known and the others commit to the front runner. Can you imagine these same r

I Have Decided!

Well, the left eye was such a success in removing the cataract I decided to go ahead and do the right eye on the 16th of May at the VA. I can really see so much better it's astonishing to me. And if I put my glasses on they are so strong it takes my sight in the left eye away. I may not even need glasses anymore after the right eye is corrected if I continue to see this clearly when both are done. Then age is not on my side so I must do this now I'm not getting any younger each day.   If I do

Life Goes On!

Well, by now many of you members know about the deal that went down in Colorado! I'm saying we are here living with pains some of us can't walk, can't see, can't talk like we want to or get about on our own but no matter our individual conditions we have life and life goes on as it has for years!! I'm glad about life with my family because this is my fourth try at being the husband and head of household! And by golly, it's working now for fourteen years and I thank God!!   As a stroke communit

Living With What We Got Left

It is much harder on some than others because no two strokes or people are alike! Some are stronger than others and the strokes can affect everybody differently and their conditions are just very hard for them to manage I understand that very well! In my case I was never depressed because I had the stroke even though I lost my business, money galore, almost my home but through it all I survived! Then my wife had to quit her job to care for me once I got home from a 5 month stay in the hospital a
