Counting down to D'day

Fourteen days and counting, Kath has been sending out bulletins:) I'm getting alittle apprehensive about going, I know it's silly but it's the what if something happens and I'm so far from home. I'm sitting here looking at a -22C temperature and am thinking what is the matter with me, there's heat out there:) We've been busy doing and picking up small things for the trip. We both bought new "New Balance" sneakers, and sandals ( only time I think they'll come off is fine dining and bed) Shir

21 days till pampering

Well it's 21 days till we leave on our cruise and are we ever busy. I spent 2 hours filling out everything Homeland Security wanted to know ( lots). Things like are you stopping at another airport, what plane, how long is the flight, what hotel are you staying in, are you leaving the country right after the cruise ( to which I said no) was that a mistake :nuhuh: We pulled the permitted and non Permitted items list off the net, making a list of what we're taking and in what suitcase, and we ju

5 things you should know about me

1. I have a great sense of humor, although sometimes alittle dry. 2. I love my wife, son, and family unconditionally. 3. When I make a friend it's for life. 4. I love to drive, anywhere. 5. I'm a good listener.

She Graduated !!!

It's -25 here right now, and it's been a cold and busy week. I hurt myself getting in the car after someone parked too close to the drivers side, even though I was parked in a handicap parking spot with my sign showing. You'd think people would be smarter, or am I hoping for too much? I still hurt (strained muscle) even though it's been since Saturday, but it seems to be getting better.   The big news is that my neice Joanna graduated from depot, she's now a full RCMP officer, and Daniel

WOW ,was yesterday a great day

Well yesterday was one of the best days I've had post stroke. I felt like my old self (pre-stroke) except for the limp . I took Kath to work, went to Canadian tire for a part, visited a friend, took the car to be winterized, did some shopping, did some things around the apartment, picked up Kath after work, and went out for supper. Well today I'm paying for my good day, thank god I'm not bedridden like I was a month ago (thanks to naproxin) you'd think I'd learn to slow down alittle, but then

YO HO - YO HO it's a shopping we will go

Our trip to Grand Forks was alittle hectic at first, just trying to get out of the city was a chore. First I had to double check that we had packed everything needed, and make sure I was at Kath's work around 4PM., after picking her up we went and picked up her sister. The trip to the border was uneventfull, but the security was really tight at the border, luckily we had taken our passports or we might still be waiting in line.   We had booked the Holiday Inn Express for two nights. I don't w

OFF We Go Again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it is October 24, and in two days we're off to Grand Forks for the weekend again (last one)before the snow flys, we're taking Kath's sister Judy with us to shop. You know, it's real easy to convert airmiles to priority points, converted a bunch and booked the executive suite at the Holiday Inn Express for the weekend I got some new tires for the front of the car here so don't need to look for them there, just have a great time (yah hoo) Halloween is almost here, then Christmas, and t

Not a terrific week

Well I thought I'd straighten up the computer room on Monday, moved and stacked boxes until the room looked presentable. Tuesday morning I couldn't get out of bed, I had yanked my back out. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday flat on my back, Kath had to go to work and wasn't happy about leaving me alone. Thursday started to feel a little better, was able to shuffle around, did some laundry. Friday morning (today), around 4AM I had something in my lower back go snap (woke me from a dead sleep) and h

Guess we're off again soon

Seems after buying two new tires in Grand Forks, our local Costco tire dept. can't match them for the front of the car. That means we have to go back and get two more for the front at Sams club, and then there's all the shopping and food, it will be tough to handle again   Looks like we'll be going sometime mid October, I don't like travelling in the winter (SNOW), don't know if it's something conected to the stroke or maybe I've just had enough travelling when it's inclement weather

Reunion and the trip to the states

Well we had so much fun at my Mom's side of the familys' reunion. There were family I haven't seen since I was 8 years old (which is quite awhile) :dribble: Uncles and Aunts were everywhere, my cousins Judy, Pam and Sue just wouldn't stop hugging me, I used to live with them when I was 16 (they're all in their 40's now). My uncle tom started a food fight, of which he got the worst. My brother who I don't see often came for the reunion as he was only at Clear lake (about 65 miles away), it was

Ah Ah Captain

Well we decided to take the plunge so to speak. Carnival Cruise Line's "Victory" http://www.carnival.com/CMS/Static_Templat...rs_Victory.aspx one day at sea, then Puerto Rico, St. Marrten, St.John, St.Thomas, two fundays days at sea and then back to Miami for some shopping :gleam: It will be like a second honeymoon for us, Daniel (our son ) and (his girlfriend) Marley are coming along so I can't misbehave too much. :dribble:

We're moved but..............

Well the move went good, but we were up at 6AM on moving day trying to look after all the little things we'd forgotten. Mover showed up at 9:30AM, he should've been there at 8:30AM. The Resident managers flunkys started to tell me that we only had two hours, and if the mover was late then another tenant's movers were needing the elevator. Well they shutup when I said "how many is that now that have moved out since May ..30?" Movers finally showed (they were having breakfast of all things) saw

Moving's begging to be sooo much fun

Well I'm going to tie up a few things Monday morning for the move, and get the new apartment keys. I'm sitting at a stop sign, look both ways twice and "clunk" some guy on a bicycle "on the sidewalk" runs into me as I turn. I get out, he's OK, but his bike isn't, I squashed the front wheel up good. I asked him what he was doing on the sidewalk as it's illegal, and that he could of been killed shooting across the walkway on his bike "supposed to walk it across". Now he's not a kid (around 18-19

Moving Day !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well here it is almost moving day and I think we're ready :dribble: stuffs all over, boxed , and unboxed. We got the keys this morning and the mover isn't showing till 8:30AM Wed morning so we can move all our breakables by car before then. The cats know somethings up, they are loosing clumps of hair ( all over ). God I'm stressed, wish this was all over so we could settle down again. Kath keeps saying that it's OK the move will happen with or without me ( not sure I like that ) :yikes: One m

So my brother tells me

Well my brother dropped a bombshell on me yesterday. He told me that he thinks he had a stroke about two weeks ago as he came out of a bar. He said that his whole left side went numb and he fell down as he was exiting the bar, he said that he tried to get back up but fell again. A taxi driver came to his rescue, and took him home. I asked why he didn't go to the hospital, he said that he had been drinking and they might think he's just drunk. Said it took two days to clear up, and he was fine.

On the road again :)

Well I'm on the road again I dropped my wife off at her work and then went to my old workplace for a visit. My wife thought that the traffic might be a problem for me (she was worried and tried not let me see) as it was my first time out by myself with the car, but I hardly noticed it. She did though made sure I took the cell just incase I need some help, or she wanted to get a hold of me, as if I didn't know she would be checking on me   I made sure to pick up some donuts from Tim Hortons,

BBQ from Hell- what was I thinking?

Well we went out last night and got a new BBQ, as ours was literally falling apart. This morning I went down to the car and brought the bbq upstairs. Around 9 AM I decided that I'd put it together, I started to unpack the parts ( there where so many).I sat for almost 10 minutes looking at all the parts wondering if I'd lost my mind, but hey I had all day I opened the instructions only to find that there were two revision sheets, and three parts that I had no idea what they were because they w

Ahhh the sweet smell of Independence

Ahhhhhh to feel the wind in my hair again, I'm driving but with a fully licensed driver because they have me on a 5A license, not my idea of freedom., I wish the 20th. of July would hurry, but when you have to wait 60 days between tests it's a hassle. So I go down to the mail Thursday morning, and low and behold another damn letter from Driver licensing, what do they want now I'm thinking as I go back upstairs. I throw the mail on the table, and my wife starts opening it up. When she open

Emails from Heaven #2

Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2006 23:18:24 -0500 Subject: Good night   Hi guys!   We were allowed to take Stu down stairs this afternoon in a wheel chair. They really fixed the front of the hospital nice. There are quite a few areas to go visit, go visit & eat or just go to be comfortable. Big chairs too! It even has a Tim Hortons and a place called the Oasis which serves Starbucks. Daniel picked him up a bold coffee from Starbucks and he quite enjoyed it!   We had another good visit wit

Emails from Heaven

Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2006 02:05:45 -0500   Subject: Stu   Hi Judy   Just got back from StB. Hosp. Stu had a mini stroke. They took a cat scan and didn't see any bleeders, which is a good thing. They are keeping him over night anyways. I'm going into work to get rid of 3 orders, then going back to hosp. What a birthday present! Going to bed to catch a few zz's hopefully. Talk to you later.   Kath     ------------------------------------------------------------------   Her

Updates to family while I was in Hospital

It seems my wife was updating the family while I was in the hospital. Both sides of the family were helping us fix up the house to sell, cleaning up, and helping to pack up before we sold it. Two months of emails, I thought we'd lost them, but my sister in law had saved them all, and sent them back to Kath after our computer crashed. Upon finding them, and reading what went on while I was on my back brought a tear to my eye, so that's why I have decided to share them with you. I'll just post

Rehab, I'm beat :)

It's going to be a short entry today.   Well I just spent two hours at rehab and I'm wiped out. I wasn't going to go today, just didn't feel great but forced myself to go. I needed to get a good workout., and I got it   Some balance exercises, weights, walking in the bars, then side stepover exercises, backward walking, the KAT, arm exercises, more weights, treadmill 1 km., more arm exercises, legover back lifts, leglifts from floor, and to top it all off the wobble board. God just typi

Boy is this going to be an experience

Well we've gone and done it, we're moving again, on August 15 th. The first move was just after my stroke, and we'd just sold the house and I was still in the hospital. Kath with the help of her sister found this place we're in now, alittle pricy but hey where were we to live? Now we have a large 2 bedroom in our old stomping grounds for alot less each month.   The new one is beautiful, big bedrooms, nice hardwood, and the view, and we're only on the sixth floor. I hate being up high es

OT and Physio when will they boot me

Well OT told me the other day that because I'm doing so well they may have to release me, I hope not ): I feel that I'm not ready to go yet. I talked to Tara my OT trainer ( not Sue my actual OT person) about this, told her I wasn't ready, and if they decided to boot me could I comeback say once a month for a workout and to access my progress. She told me not to worry (don't exactually know what that meant), after all it's Sue's call.   Shelly my Physio said there's no way she was going to

My stroke, how it happened

June 22 (day before my birthday) my day started at 7:30 AM, I took my wife to work, and then went for breakfast. Later I went shopping, and then went and had my hair cut. When I came out of the shop I remember that I felt a strange tingling on the top of my head, well it was 29C and I thought it was just because I had just come from air conditioning (if I'd only known).   I went to the grocery store and did some shopping, and then went home to mow the grass and put the grocerie
