What I know at 41

Lately, I have been thinking how my age isn't so bad. But I have come far since the time shortly before I turned 40. Then 40 loomed large and ugly and unwanted. For as long as I could remember 40 was it, the end of the line, over the hill, ancient and one foot in the grave. Well I've changed my viewpoint. 41 is neither too old nor too young, I am in between and loving it. I know who Humphrey Bogart is and I'm not to old not to enjoy some songs that are heavy metal or rap or know that I like the stuff Green Day puts out. I think for the first time in my adult life, I am most comfortable in the decade of my forties. This is the calmest zen like I've ever been.

At 41 I know that I no longer am bound by convential standards of how I should live my life.

At 41, I am retired and loving it.

At 41 I am single and dating and playing the field at this age is more enjoyable then when I was younger. I know what I want, how I want it and when I want it. It isn't filled with anxiety filled moments being paralysed with fear because I just didn't know if that was what I wanted. ("It" can be anything your imagination fills in, at this age "It" can mean hundreds of things.)

Also being 41 brings with it, its own set of wisdom and opinions. It is safe to say I know who I am and I am comfortable with myself, I no longer seek approval from others and you can take me or leave me, it is ok, I'm 41!

I agree with you, the 40's never really felt any different than the 30's. It feels really great to be satisfied with yourself.

The 50's are creeping up. Maybe too fast. Oh Well, It's only a number.

Good For You!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like if I blogged "what I know at 35", it would be a very short entry. Most of the time I feel like a teenager is spirit (and an old lady in body). So far no birthdays have really got me down, but I hope that I feel as comfortable as you when I start the next decade of my life.

sounds like you're finally doing what you want to do. biggrin2.gif

you go,girl! wicked.gif rock on! gleam.gif , and f***k them if they can't take a joke tongue.gif

i never cared what was conventional and what people thought about me until i was in the middle of my residency and i thought that i had to 'fit in' because people that i was working with disapproved of my attitude. Argh.gif when i went into private practice, i made friends, ran my business, and married somebody who looked like someone that my parents and society would approve of (a nice Jewish lawyer). rolleyes.gif

it took me having a stroke to wake up and figure out that that was not me. rolleyes.gif

so now, i'm married to a really nice Italian longshoreman with a GED, bleached blond hair, tattoos, body piercings, an addiction to drugs and alcohol (using since age 10, sober 8 1/2 years). pash.gif i work part time, gross over $100,000/year secret.gif , have two friends that are doctors (one's gay, one's 'retired' to care for her two daughters and her aging, demented mother) and many other friends that are not, also have tattoos and body piercings and bleached blond hair bungee.gif, and i'm happier than i've ever been. tongue.gif

about Green Day...'American Idiot' is one of the best albums i've heard in years. happydance.gif they won the best rock video and the best video of the year (for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams') at the Music Video Awards.

i LOVE your attitude.. wicked.gif keep on doing what you're doing. biggrin2.gif

Hey, Sandy, if all your friends have tattoos, body piercings and bleached hair does that make you all conformists? lol_2.gif

i can't say...because except for my friend's little sister, who has both a tattoo and a nose piercing, and my friend's cousin, who has a lot of light blonde streaks bleached into her light brown hair, they don't have any that you mention. my friends dye/streak their hair in 'sensible' colors.

if they did, though, there's always Manic Panic...did i ever tell you about the time that i was dyeing my hair pink over the blonde... wicked.gif
