Unorganized ramblings

Yesterday I had a great time. I went to my friend Jim's party. It was a BBQ and a typical small town upstate NY party. My other friend Lou went and Lou had culture shock. I was highly amused by Lou's observations. Lou is a city boy born and bred, Lou moved to small town USA two years ago. Lou is proud he is finally getting a handle on who is related to who.

Course as anyone who lives in a narrow minded small town knows, everyone either knows everyone or is related to them somehow. So Lou had heard about "country BBQ's but had never been to one. Jim was born and raised in that town. So it was Jim's family and friends who came and everyone brought something to eat. Jim originally was serving venison and making the trout he had caught with crab meat stuffing. I was mortified to hear that was what we were eating cause I don't like either. I asked him if he couldn't have "real food" like burgers and hot dogs too? He agreed. So we had quite the smorgesborg of options to eat. Potato salad, Macaroni salad, sweet corn, tortillini salad, baked beans and a sweet and sour pork dish, hot dogs and hamburgers and stuffed trout.

Jim and a few others set up the horse shoe pits and Jim backed the van up to the deck and cranked out country music. Lou is sitting there, going I always heard about country BBQ's but I never thought they really played horse shoes or all drank beer swapping hunting and fishing stories..... Me I just laughed and said yup always. I was happily drinking my way threw a bottle of White Zinfindel I had brought. Lou was great about refilling my glass and at one point the sun was getting hot, I was getting tired to I switched to Pepsi. Imagine my shock when I went to go home and saw the bottle of wine was three quarters empty. Lou assured me today that it had only been me drinking it. I haven't started drinking at noon in years. Glad that isn't a daily thing. It was a holiday and the wine was going down smooth. But it was fun, I knew most of the people that were there and the ones I didn't know, I was soon happily talking away to.

I at one point was asked if I still held a job? I have to admit, my reply was quick and I answered no, I'm retired. Saying that didn't make me cringe inside and use an apologetic tone either. I also added and I love being retired too. You know pre stroke I never had as much fun as I seem to be having these days. Yeah, I know much is all an attitude change. But there is life after stroke, and divorce. I think for the first time in my life, I'm glad I'm a woman!

The romantic arena is different from what I remember, but it is a fun interesting time and worth being involved with it.

Some guys come into my life cause a few ripples and go just as quick as they came. But it isn't a big deal. They have things happen beyond their control and I don't hear from them, oh well, their loss.
