ON THE TRAIL WITH PAM AND BILL

Anybody ever read those Hunter Thompson books about his "trips" while experiencing the effects of psychodelic drugs? One title I remember was "On the trail to Las Vegas" (I think) anyway, after our recent trip south, it has occured to me that who needs psychodelic drugs to experience or see life differently when one has brain damage?

These two strokies made a few mistakes(who was supposed to be paying attention??) but it gave us a real good laugh afterwards. The town we stayed in was a tourist town with miles and miles of hotels. These hotels were all high rises and all looked alike. We came back after dinner one night, walked into the lobby, stopped cause the elevator looked different. Bill walks back out of the hotel, I have no idea what he's doing and I'm tired so I seat myself on the red plush sofa that is just chock full of pillows. I sink back into the pillows, completely enjoying the relaxing moment, I sit up and look around the lobby. The thought keeps niggling at my mind that the lobby is completely wrong, but I can't put my finger on if it is wrong cause of bad color choices or furniture arrangement..... I see Bill outside the doors motioning me to come outside. I wave to him and sink back and close my eyes for a minute, when I look again, Bill is motioning harder to come outside. I heave a deep sigh and get up and walk outside, he starts walking towards the truck.

I ask where we're going? He said it will only be a minute. It suddenly strikes me! I know whats wrong with the lobby! I turn to Bill and ask him. "We're at the wrong hotel, aren't we?"He grins and says "yup". Well I was awful cozy at the wrong hotel. We had a good laugh at that one.

The following day, we were on our way back up to our room, an older couple got on the elevator with us, the man starts casually chatting with me about my leg. Anyway I am chatting away with them both, the elevator stops, I get off and still chatting with the older couple, start to walk away from the elevator with them.. The man stops and says Wait! You're on the wrong floor! I turn around to see Bill holding the elevator door for me, grinning. Talk about an embarrassing moment.

So I see it as who needs drugs? I've got brain damage, that is amusing enough all by itself. I live each day like Mr. Magoo, always getting in binds by being unaware, but always pulling out of it.

Glad to have you back safe and sound. Don't feel bad about going into the wrong hotel lobby. I'd bet good money that you weren't the first and you won't be the last to do it.

cool,

you went "south"?. did ya'll eat grits and stuff?. i know bill is probably used to it, but what about you.? did you get to drink sweet tea? how did you "take the heat" cuz i bet it was hot as heck.

lol, a yank down south. it's as funny as a southerner visiting up north. so many many different foods, colloquialisms, accents, etc. i enjoyed my few visits up north, mainly because of the weather. it is so danged hot down south, for the most part.

as for going to the wrong hotel, i have done worse. it's too embarrasssing to post, lol. i am glad ya'll had fun.

Kim,

Yes I had my sweet tea. No, I DO NOT EAT GRITS! If I wanted sand I can go to the beach, but I don't eat grits as it reminds me of sand. I did try chicken fried steak with sawmill gravy though and I liked it.

As to the weather it was warm and mild compared to the northern weather we get this time of the year. I enjoyed being without my winter coat at the end of March.

Yup as this one older lady said to me when she asked where I was from, I said I'm a yankee, I'm from upstate NY. She shot back with "Well we won't hold that against you" I burst out laughing. Bill said she may have been serious. Even if she was serious, I found it funny what she said.

But I do like sweet tea though.

One waitress that was older came to refill my tea, she asks Bill "If he minded that she refilled his younguns tea"? I of course was about in a heap on the ground laughing. I was very amused that she thought I was his youngun. He's only 12 years older then me and looks young for his age, guess I must look real young to her..... :roflmao:

Kim,

What exactly is sweet tea? I drink tons of tea...all different kinds. Do you actually add sugar to steeped tea and if so how much?

sweet tea is sugar +/- sweetened condensed milk+/- tapioca with a little tea in it. not only southerners drink sweet tea. thai iced tea has sweetened condensed milk and sugar in it. middle eastern iced tea has lots of sugar in it. asian bubble tea has sugar, tapioca pearls, and all sorts of other stuff in it. we have all of these types of tea in NYC.

new york missed you, pam. anywhere else's gain is new york's loss.

i'm sure that whether you're in upstate NY, or anywhere, you'll still be the same person, and not morph into a Blanche Dubois just because your butt is sitting south of the Mason-Dixon line.

Pam I just love this blog. So right, drain bamage is way more fun than drugs. Of course as my insurance company would confirm it is way more expensive to!

Thanks

FIRST OF ALL, ***** I HATE, NO ABHOR, SWEET TEA WITH A PASSION********************* WHAT'S THE PURPOSE, IT JUST MAKES YOU MORE THIRSTY. THEY PUSH IT WITH A PASSION IN ALABAMA. BASICALLY, IT'S A CUP ( OR MORE) OF SUGAR PER GALLON . IT'S ADDED AFTER IT IS STEEPED. ****THEN, THEY PUT LEMON IN IT? MAKES NO SENSE.

I HAVE ALWAYS ONLY DRANK UNSWEET TEA. AT LEAST IN KENTUCKY, 75% OF THE PEOPLE ORDER UNSWEET AND ARE VERY ADAMANT ABOUT IT. THAT COULD BE I AM IN A TOURIST TOWN WITH LOTS OF YANKS. I DUNNO. LOL. PAM, THE LADY WAS SERIOUS.

DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY. THEY STILL HAVE CONFEDERATE RE-ENACTMENTS( AKA LIVING HISTORY) DOWN HERE. WHAT, 150 YEARS AGO WE HAD A WAR? WHY DON'T WE DO "VIETMAN RE-ENEACTMENTS, WW1 AND 2 RE-ENACTMENTS? I THINK IT'S BECAUSE IT WAS A CIVIL WAR.

FOR THE MOST PART, MOST OF US EDUCATED SOUTHERNERS REALIZE THAT THE YANKS LIVING TODAY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT WAR. ******SOME******HOWEVER, ARE STILL SENSITIVE ABOUT IT I GUESS BECAUSE THEY ARE DIRECT DESCENDANTS OF SOME GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER KILLED IN THAT WAR, I DUNNO.

IT'S WEIRD LIVING IN A "SPLIT STATE". IT FREAKED ME OUT WHEN I SAW THAT A CULTURAL CENTER HERE IN KENTUCKY DOES ONE LEANING TOWARD THE UNION. THIS STATE IS SPLIT STILL AMONG THEMSELVES AND ****THAT***** IS A HOOT. AT ANY RATE, I LOVE YANKS. NEVER MET ONE I DIDN'T LIKE. HOWEVER, I HAVE MET PLENTY OF IGNORANT HILLBILLIES AND REDNECKS I CAN'T STAND THE SIGHT OF MUCH LESS BE AROUND. GO FIGURE. RECKON I HAVE SOME YANK BLOOD?. LOL
