Hi-

I had a stroke last summer at 33 years old. I do understand what you went through. The doctors do not know how to handle young people. They found a hole in my heart that cause my stroke and in December I had open-heart surgery. I consider my stroke (in an odd way) a blessing as it has put everything into perspective for me, and it made me realized how important the people in my life: my family, my friends, and my boyfriend who literally saved my life are.

I am sorry that you went through what you did. Your story resonated with me. I hope that you are continuing to do well with your family.

All my best,

Lily

OMG Erin...you are such a survivor, a wonderful and inspiring survivor. I, too had a stroke at a young age, though a bit older than you at the time. I was 42 and it was 1999 when I stroked out during an angiogram procedure. Thank God the strokes were minor and I was only left migraines and ADD and some other weird neurological stuff no one can figure out. I've had two small strokes since, one in Dec. 2005 and April 2007. I'm happy to say that they have resolved themselves. No doctor has told me why I had my stroke in 1999 and since then I've been diagnosed with complicated/complex migraines which can result in strokes.

I know that sinking, deadly feeling that death is right there. If you haven't experience it no one can understand it.

I will always remember you and your story if another stroke should come upon me. You have given me a reason to believe that I will survive.

PEACE

Diane

Hi Erin,

I must have done something wrong because my reply to you yesterday did not save so I will try again. I too had a vertebral artery dissection last summer and was a healthy 29 year old at the time. I have a wonderful husband and a now 3 year old son, Kole. They have been my motivation to keep on going when I get down on myself for not being able to do things the way I did before. By looking at me people would have no idea what I have gone through however and that is what makes it more frustrating I think! I have found that patience is everything...anything can be done it just may take a little longer for us survivor's! "My boys" mean everything to me though so I am thankful that I am here to share their lives with them. You are an inspiration to many. Thank you for sharing your story. Are you on here often? I would love to hear more.

All my best,

Karla

Hi, this is my first posting to Stroke.Nrt. On September 17th I underwent a double lung transplant as I was in end-stage cystic fibrosis. I had a stroke during the surgery ( due to being on a heart-lung bypass machine, during which time there was not enough oxygen getting to my brain. Not an outcome anyone had imagined (especially me!) I'd been waiting for the transplant as the ticket to a new life of easy breathing and not doing hours of treatments every day. I'm getting PT at home and OT and PT as an outpatient at the hospital. I'm thankful to be walking-with a rollator outside.by myself inside the house, but my left hand is taking forever to progress. I cry really easily and am having trouble focusing on the happy things in life. I miss so many things about the "old" me, especially my independence and self-suffuciency, and I so miss driving! Patience has never been easy for me, and remaining patient and letting this "process" take it's course is the biggest challenge I've ever faced. I'm 47, which is old in the CF world, but young in the stroke world,I suppose. I have a supportive, loving husband, and a caring, tender 12 year-old son.
