About Me
Hi! My name is Amanda, Im 25 years old and I suffered a massive brain stem stroke in 2005 when I was 18. I received top notch stroke care in Kansas City and I have made an amazing recovery. I spent a few weeks in the stroke unit, then I was moved to rehab. Although my type of stroke is 90% fatal, I had my age on my side and I never gave up. I had to relern to walk, talk, tie my shoe, make friends, and how to tell a joke all over again. I developed pneumonia and had a trach and my brain swelled on father's day 2005. Although I almost died 4 different times, I kept hanging on and never gave in. I knew I wasn't ready to die. I completely lost all physical function and independence, but through hard work I recovered at an extremely impressive rate and walked (with a walker) out of the hospital after only 7 weeks.
It has been 6 years now since my stroke and although I have hearing issues, memory loss, and I take anti-depressants, I live a pretty normal life. I have two boys. Jackson-4 years and Joshua-8 months. I work full time and I go to school. I owe my recovery to my hard work and determination. I busted my tail to get to where I am today and I am so proud of that.
Never give up and never take the easy way out. Life is worth fighting for!
