  1. What has been stated above is true. Recovery time IS NOT limited. We are told it is, but that is a false statement. Every stroke is different, every stroke affects people in different ways, people recover differently because of age. And, even if two people had the same exact stroke, they may even recover differently. My stroke wasn't severe, so I don't experience everything you mentioned. I just have a complete numbness on the left side, I have no feeling of pain, can't feel to pick things up, no feeling in fingers, to button my shirt or pants, and a numbness, tingling feeling you get, after receiving a shot of novocaine. However, after fifteen years, I was able to button the top button of a dress shirt. Okay, it may have taken me forty-five minutes, but I did it.
  2. Mark, First of all, welcome to Stroke Network. Yes, recovery is slow, but it IS an on-going process. Example: I can not feel the top button hole, on a dress shirt. Daughter was getting married, wanted me to give her away.....only if I wore a suit. That meant a suit and tie. Fifteen years after my stroke, I finally buttoned the top button. Yea, it might have taken me 45 minutes, but I did it. Yes, you will see progress, but it will be slow. And, unfortunately, at times, you will hit a plateau. Don't give up, persevere. My stroke (June 26, 1998) wasn't that severe, so I don't experience all of the issues that you do. I have numbness on the whole left side, a feeling that I associate with the numbness that one feels after a shot of Novocaine, and a slight limp.
