  4. Ask a rehab nurse to talk to your Mom? keep stressing that you have a permanent brain injury?
  5. Dianne - I sent you a PM for a referral for services for your parents in case they disrupt at their current placement. I hope you don't need it, but hang on to it! Rene
  6. Joy - you are grieving in your own way. Ignore outside standards. Listen only to your own heart/soul. Kuebler-Ross did not base her 5 stages of grief on any research whatsoever. It was just her theory that people who moved through her 5 stages of grief in any order would achieve relief. Research has never supported her theory and she never attempted to prove her theory herself. Apparently she was trying to tie her 5 stages of grief into her belief in transcendental meditation and out-of-body experiences.
  7. I've never regained any use of my affected arm/hand but I started doing things around the house while my husband was at work - nothing that required standing or balancing - but moving laundry to the washing machine and then the dryer/loading the dishwasher, getting the mail, stuff like that. As to your child, have you sought advice from other disabled moms? http://lookingglass.org/parents/
  8. Is there any indication that has insight into his owmn behavior? Is he apologetic later?
  9. Rich: would you be willing to give us a 2 year progress note? Where are you physically 2 years after Kiev, what was the final cost, and do you think it was worth the expense? Rene
  10. At one year, it seems impossible to delude yourself anymore that you'll find a miracle cure or that you'll ever get your original life back. It's really a turning point for most survivors, I think.
  11. DJ: If you are licensed, I recommend you practice law from home, as I do. Do pro bono work if income will mess up your case.
  12. Get to a physiatrist or a NEUROpsychiatrist and ask them about adding on a mild anti-seizure med - they boost the effectiveness of ant-depressants and stop emotional outbursts.
  13. I wouldn't go to the specialist first unless you believe you are having perception problems.
  14. I'm a survivor and after a year of outpt therapy I quit. It was my decision and I'm glad I did. The therapists and my family wanted me to continue but after a year of 5 day a week therapy I still had exactly the same neuroresponse as the day I left the hospital. There was zero improvement! I felt it was a huge waste of money and time to keep going to PT/OT. I accepted my condition and changed my focus to living independently while my husband is at work. I have never regretted the decision. Rene
  15. Yes, my husband and I met while students at ASU. John Paul came here on his first "pope-mobile" tour in the late 80's-early 90's and at that time Sun Devil Stadium was the only arena large enough for his mass.
  16. I've been terribly hesitant to blog. I don't know why. Maybe because if you actually say it out loud, the thought leaves your control and you can't get it back. Maybe because others have been kicked off this site for sharing their thoughts, I'm not sure I feel safe here. So I will "test" blog, sample the scene as the young kids say. I can always quit, right? This afternoon I am sitting, waiting for my in-laws to arrive from California with their 1 year old grand-daughter (I can't seem to call her my niece). The helicopters are circling my house for the Insight bowl (formally the Copper Bowl) set to start in an hour. The chopping sound makes me sad. I should be there, my husband and I went to the Fiesta Bowls and the Insight bowls and a few Rose Bowls, we planned on being there in our 80's, wrinkly, in matching gold blazers and maroon devil horns flashing the sign of the pitchfork. (I'm already wondering if I'll be kicked off for mentioning my alma mater, the Sundevils - the University had to cover all the depictions of Sparky when the Pope came to visit, apparently some people really believe the cartoon devil with the face of Walt Disney signals actual Satan worshipping) Anyway, the stroke stole my bowl games. I hate it. I think I'd even sell my soul to Sparky to get my body back! My cat yakked up a hairball today, hope my MIL doesn't see the stain.
  17. BETTY JEAN - HAVE THE THERAPISTS USED A MIRROR? ITS HARD TO DENY WHEN THEY PUT YOU IN FRONT OF A MIRROR AND TELL YOU TO WALK TOWARDS YOURSELF.
  18. Rich442 : be careful about blaming everything on your stroke. It is a victim's point of view. It is a fantasy to believe that you'd be happier if you hadn't had the stroke. Rene
  19. Donna, I am a survivor and I think you should tell him how you feel. I would rather grant my husband a divorce than have him stay out of pity. It is bad enough that my life has been ruined, no need to ruin two lives. 2nd Chance
