About Me
Hi, my name is Christina and I had a hemorrhagic stroke September 15, 2013. They then discovered an AVM (arteriovenous malformation) in my cerebellum that led to this. In March 2014, I was 90% recovered (balance), and I had 2 of 4 embolizations to rid of the AVM and on the third one I had a bleed. The second one is taking a lot longer to heal from, and ataxia and dysarthria (and dysphagia more so in the beginning) were new that time. I had another medical complication resulting in a stroke February 14, 2015. The first one affected my left, the second and third my right, and I was right dominant before, so now it's about even for strength, but my right has tremors. I am very lucky to have a wonderfully supportive family, and a couple great friends to help me through this. I was into cooking and hiking before and I can do a lot of the cooking stuff, and I go out on paved trails in my wheelchair. I feel pretty well connected with resources and know not everyone has that blessing, so for the future. I'm looking into becoming a Patient/Health Advocate.
