    Good news

Greetings from New Zealand and congrats to Mum-in-law for getting green card. It will be very interesting to find how she handles the winter weather! Tell her that NZ is unchanged despite new government except that we are having extremes of weather. Papakura has not changed much at all! Deigh
  3. My wife has this problem too. She gets it around the fingers mostly but in really cold weather it can affect her nose too. She has found the only relief for her hands is to wear sheepskin mittens, not gloves, too restricting. She wears no makeup but has purchased a powder for her nose which according to the TV adverts, can even cover up tattoos. Deigh

Barbara, I had to look at the date of your stroke before comparing it with my progress. Yours was only this year so you have quite a way to go as far as recovery is required. I'm not sure whether I had the same problems, difficulty finding the correct word to say was a handicap only for a short time for me. Saying the wrong thing, I don't know, but I havn't got many friends left so perhaps I was guilty. My biggest problem is actual speech. I work hard at improving it but even after two and a half years I am nowhere as lucid as I would like to be. I can make myself understood to a sympathetic listener and that is excellent, but if I am tired or under pressure I am in trouble! I dare not get into arguments and when in a crowd even good conversation is very unsatisfactory. Since I am a person who likes to talk and argue this is a condition I am not happy with. What part of the UK are you from? Deigh

Aha, Yes. Playing out with the local "Sunset Coast Big Band" of Waiuku, NZ. I get about half an hour's practice daily on the guitar and sometimes the fingers move quite well. I'm not ready to play out yet, the endeavour of packing guitar, amp and other things into and out of the car would be just too much. Another six months and things could be quite different. The same goes for the keyboard. I work at the local museum once a week and I have a little bash on an old upright piano there to earn my cup of tea. It is hard work but good for the fingers. Deigh

Don't say it's the sort of thing you would do? Am going to do a better photo of it today. Can't understand why I didn't snap it when I first saw it in situ! Deigh
  7. George, Please pass greetings from Waiuku to mother-in-law, she will know where it is, the site of the New Zealand Steel Mill. Deigh
  8. Asha,  Computer problems sound realistic. Give him our regards next time you see him and say we are thinking of him.

Brilliant. What a tremendous recovery story. Deigh
  10. Brilliant, Give Lesley and her mum our regards! Valerie and Leslie had a long chat on the phone when she was here and my ears are still burning so I expect you and I were being discussed! Deigh

  14. It was good to read your blog, I was full of questions like how come your mother in law lives in New Zealand and was awaiting a phone call from Lesley so she could explain. It looks as though some big changes are going to happen. We probably know your M.I.L but can't think of anyone of that age in Papakura. I lied about the weather here, it was lousy last week but seems to be improving at the moment. Deigh

Made from soft leather and glued to plectrum using Bondic, it keeps the plectrum retained and prevents twisting. Gradually the fingers are rebuilding the muscles needed to hold a plectrum firmly. In the meantime this enables me to play. Deigh
