About Me
My stroke was on Valentine Day 2015 when we were visiting my daughter and her family in Indiana for the weekend. It was a Saturday morning and my wife and I were doing the parents a favor and were at an indoor soccer facility where my older (4) Grandson had a practice. We also had my 15 month old Grandson with us. As we were leaving it was snowing and blowing and as I was buckling the youngest in the car seat behind the driver and was standing outside leaning into the car. I couldn't get the car seat buckle to click. I was getting *beep* and gritting my teeth. When I got in the driver's seat my left arm and leg felt numb. I said something to my wife in the passenger seat and she asked if she should drive. I said yes and using the car for some support was able to walk around the back of the car and get in the passenger seat and we discussed my situation and what to do. One option was go back to my daughter's house and lie down and see how I felt after awhile. I was mildly educated on strokes and had to be honest with myself and admit that is what was happening. Lucky me we knew the area and were minutes from the emergency room of a major hospital just outside of South Bend. I was in the ER within 15 min. When we pulled up to emergency I thought I could walk in while April parked and took care of the boys. Ha! I stepped out of the car and collapsed to the ground. They brought a wheelchair out, collected me and wheeled me in.
So it was on. The info was I had a brain bleed stroke. The good news was the bleed stopped and I got quick action Not as common as a blockage type (TIA) but they do refer to mine as The Widow Maker telling me it basically kills 3 out of 4 it strikes. 7 year anniversary this Feb.
