this I am sure that you will see recovery if you work at it try new things and do whatever you can do to help your brain learn what you expect your body to do for you your brain has an incredible abilty to learn new things your brain is so incredible that the abilty to make new connection find a new route to help your limbs legand arm to do for you what you expect of your body , the ones thing that I am sure if you don"t work at it you are letting your brain know that you are comfortable with what you are able to do so your brain will have no reason to try harder to make new connections you have the power in you to learn new things and to expect more of your brain your brain is always growing and learning new things with plasticity so I think that if you are able to do it teach your brain what you want it to do for you weither it be walk longer and further endurance is the key walk longer get in the routine I am sure that a lot of members have already seen some improvement over the years if you look at what you couldn't do before and then what you can now you will probably be very amase at just how far you have come and when you look at it it is all about just living your life to the best that you can your recovery is a journey with lots of curves in the road but it is a journey since it is your journey you have a choice to make to live and to live happy and just do the best that you can I know that I have struggle a lot but I know that I am getting better I am not where iwant to be but I know that if I continue to work at it I am very happy to continue to work at it I hope that you do recoverand I hope that you will enjoy your life and that you will do the best that you are able to do we have come a very long way and yes it has taken you and me a very long way so the question you have to ask you is how far will I be if I didn't try at all ?be happy with what you can do let your brain know that you want more challenge it work hard and it will get better it may take you a very long time but its all that we have just hope and hope is a very good thing may your recovery be a good one I wish you nothing but thevery best in your journey

well i got the call to go to ubchospital that is where a stroke study is done we had a varios of test memory test, and puzzle test we go to have an mri i have done that twice now so i get a comparison check to see if there is any improvement ie not as dark as before and good news its not as bad with the puzzel it is like a tile which is red and white and you are giving design that you have to move the tile in order to make it look like the design then you are giving a grocery list compleate with a number of items that can be purchace you are then ask to recall the list then you are giving a blocks in a box and ask to move the blocke using your hand to complete the task so basically your brain is given a task to perform in order to see just how wellyou do and base on your mri if you don"t performed a task that well they can then look at the mri to see the image of your brain and base on what they see or not see they can then determine what brain is use to performed that task it is very interested to see how it is done and the university students is performing the test and you even get paid to do that , and i have also been told time and time again by the mritechnician that your brain will continue to make the proper pathways over time no matter what the time frame may be it just continue to make new pathway the technician has seen it over and over again and i hope that you will see and get some improvement

something newto share with you!!! work spells progress
lharrison posted a blog entry in AmbassadorLenny's Blog
just wanted to let you know that i now learned to do something new that i wanted to share with you :Ask: i can now using my right arm and picking my left arm up to my head and cupping my palms and putting my head into the palms of my head it took me quite a while to do this a whole lotrta grab and streatch :gym: but at least i can do it and now after lifting my left arm with my right hand i can now do it by myself just with my left hand now and now my fingers is getting easy to move my fingers i figure any time now and my left arm is starting to come :monkeydance: just wanted to let you know that work and never giving up really does pay off in dividend :I-Agree: i even pull my left arm up whilewatching telivision , however it does take alot of time but it just proves that if you streatch the muscle it does help , and you can obtain recovery :Nodding: so the streatch begins with grab your left with your good arm and while sitting lift and pull straight up until you can touch your head with your arm :monkeydance: then after that you will want to not only touch your head but now bend your wrist in order to form a cup in your hand with your palm place ypour palm into the back of your head lets get starting now a one grab and lift and two touch your head with your hands and three after bending your elbows twist your wrist until you can cup your palm and then place your head into the palms great streatch and preatty soon you will be able to do it withourt the use of your good arm , all the best in your new exercise i hope that you will find this helpful and encourage you to start your exerciseit may seem at first very hard to do and maybe even impossible because you will be tvery tight but trust me after pusing and pulling up and up to the left it will start to get easy trust me -
SOMETHING THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOUi know that since your stroke you do tend to get really tired and very fast well the same happened to me as you know my goal is to run a marathon so i am training to walk a very long way and this is my story i started to walk just once a day and then i use to rest on the bench to get my breath i was very tired but then i didn"t feel like i was ready to increased my distancebut then i got to thinking well you know if i don"t rest on the bench on my half way point i won"t have to increase my walk i can do the same walk distance but just don"t rest before on my daily walks it took me about 10 minutes to do that so i decided tonot rest and tosee how i feel well i walk straight past the bench where i usualy sit and just keep right on walking now i was tired very tired but i did it and then i decided that i will just have to increase my walk and still not rest if i want to walk in the m,arathon i need endurance so i decided to change my route and now the walk took me 1hour and 40 minutes so it"s still not the marathon distance but i just felt like i should try i really had a tough go i was very tired i almost gave up i didn"t know if i would make it but i keep on going i got very exahusted but the point of my whole story is that i did it anfd yes it was hard for me but a marathon is my goal so nhow when i do that again it isn"t quite so hard i have now incorporateinto my daily walks from my house and onto the **beep** so i can tell you for sure that you can build your endurance by just doing more and more further and further now i don"t know what your goal is and i am not telling you to try to walk further and further that might not be what you want todo but i just wanted to let you know that your endurance and your ability to do it further does change i know because i did it and i wan"nt half as tired as i was when i first did it once you know what you want your goal to be you will know when you are ready to try to increase your distance i didn"t do it right away it was little by little step by step all the best to you in your goal and in reaching your goal and in your recovery
