Farrell
Hi Julie~ I've had a surgery to repair knee ligaments from hyper-extending knee from gait. That was about 4 yrs post stroke. No problems. Brain surgery to replace flaps that got infected covering holes after AVM removal at time of bleed & stroke 12/96. And last yr. amputation of baby toe on good ft. from prior surgeries. Foot was deformed due to surgeries from age 15-27. The dr.s started surgries before ft. was grown causing all kinds of problems. That was before you got a second or even third opinion. I had no problems....Nancy I pray it all goes well for you!
smarshall
Hi, I understand your concern. Since my stroke I've had six operations; full anesthesia with all but the last. I started to feel wary about going "under", (That my luck would run out ) so I opted for a local this last time. Susan :Typing:

doreen payne
I had all my upper teeth out under anesthetic and I was fine. my drs said I would be fine - it is better to get an operation then having something wrong for a long time
ksmith
I havent had surgeries though I've wanted to. Before, as you know, always check with your doctor. As leny said, blood thinners and all. I'm on PLavix also and have put off a nose piercing. Not as advasive as what you want but a fear just the same. What ever you do.. I wish for you the best abd be safe. moonrocket
I had my stroke in December 20, 2005 less than a month before my 34th birthday. I had surgery on February 27, 2008 to get a VNS pulse generator implanted and attached to the vagus nerve in the neck, which runs into the brain. I had this done for a better management over my treatment-resistant chronic depression. It is also used in some forms of epilepsy. VNS (vagus nerve stimulation) therapy has made a huge difference. My mental health has really improved after the adjustments to the pulse generator that sends a very mild electrical pulse to the brain via the vagus nerve to stimulate some areas in the brain. It doesn't eliminate the need for meds, but it helps when meds don't work. I've been on so many meds and antidepressants. I was even offered ECT treatments, but I refused that for fear of more brain damage. A neurosurgeon implanted the pulse generator and attached it to the nerve, so I was totally in good hands. It was done at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. And, yes, I was under general anesthesia. And it went very well. Since I spent the night in the hospital, the staff took precautions and made sure that everything is ok by checking on my reflexes and whatnot. They also had those massaging whatevers on my lower legs. So, I was well cared for. I'm sure once they know that you've had a stroke, they will take precautions. Just make sure you mention it when you go through the intake.
Sudz
Hi Julie I can't really answer you post stroke surgery concerns-- 3 mos after my aneurysm repair they replaced the bone flap in my head no probs howeever with an aneurism I had no BP cholesterol etc problems, as least uyou'd be going into this with a medical team FULLY aware of your problems-- one comment on Breast reduction I'm 58 & had my done in my 30's - my only regret is I didn't do it sooner! Thet took 5 lbs out 5 lbs butter 5 lb crisco container -- not fun to lug around Normal size bras are way cheaper! shoulders are better & best of all I'm not a freak being stared at by men Well worth it Even though it can be considered elective -I feel it is necessary in some cases. Many people get through surgery ok with your numbers- but in this case they will be totally prepared When will you get it?Great keepp me posted & I'll tell U my size difference Ignore all the fl flat chests that say give me some I let em know it was almost a handicapand no fun being teased Susan ps its nice to have people look into your eyes
