Oxyen Chamber

Recommended Posts

Katrina,

Everyone has an opinion about any subject in the world especially the medical world of recovery. I say that because my very first subject question on this site was about hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatments for stroke survivors. I was told of it's existence at the hospital during my stay and if it was possible try to have it done when I got out. Well it was but in very few places or hospitals in 2005. After much checking around several times I was told that procedure was best when used early on when the brain is first attacked. I kept hearing the same story time after time until I gave up trying to get it done on me.

Should you opt to get it done in your case I wish you well but it has been even longer since your stroke occurred and if the info I got years ago now is correct then perhaps you would be losing plenty money without getting any help with your condition. Again just my opinion.

Exactly Fred, I contacted one from the cities and got that exact info from the hyperbaric specialist... Some help can be had long after a stroke using it but is a very costly venture both for time and money.... He said we would be looking at 100 dives ( they call each session a dive) minimum..... They would sell you how ever many you want , but said nobody this far out from a stroke benefits at a level less than a hundred dives... Each dive about 30 dollars and there is a 500.00 start up fee just for the special individualized clothing you would need to wear and some other equipment......and he made it very clear, lots of people start and few finish when working on stroke victims , the time commitment is more the issue than the cost..... But if they could get to a stroke victim within 24" hours he said it can be maybe 5 to 10 dives with very good projected outcome....he didn't solicit us at all, he said upfront that's though he would do it if we wanted he knew it most likely would be a waste of money and time for us... Especially given our distance and the fact Dan hates to be away very long from home...so that's my experience or rather what little I have learned about it...nancyl
