My mom had her stroke March 9th and was found March 10th and is now in a rehab center where they are very polite and make sure to keep me in the loop about how she is doing. She can finally feel her upper thigh on her right side but it is at the pain stage. They were able to find an awesome brace for her leg and had it specially modified just for her and she can now stand for an hour and is starting to walk a bit further everyday. She is still incontinent, she still hasn't gotten feeling back there or in her right arm however being left handed it isn't as bad as it could've been I suppose. As of yesterday and today she wants me to find her a a single floor or bottom floor house and or apartment she can rent down here because I told her all I have is a couch right now. I have 4 people's appointments to keep track of already and I have to keep an extra eye on my 20 year old niece because she is a paranoid schizophrenic so I have to figure out how to become her payee/guarantor because it's gotten bad off of medications again...her dad/my brother called and kicked her (not face to face but a literal phone call) and then he moved to a 3rd story apartment after telling mom he was going to move her up to Indiana with him....how do I juggle everything if my momma moves down here? I am literally the only family she has down here, my niece is uncomfortable with her because she's only met her 3 times and she stole from my niece the last time she went up.

My goodness. You truly are dealing with a plate full. Well, I might be bias looking at the but MOM comes first yet I understand the relationship with an out of 'control' niece. Just bless!!!

That is a huge amount to contend with.

We are all here to support you as best we can, but is there someone you can talk to face to face?

A doctor who knows the family ? A counsellor or priest? A trusted family member?

This is too much for you to deal with on your own.

All the best with getting everything sorted. Try not to forget about yourself in all this.

I might be able to offer you some suggestions on your niece. The laws vary some by state, but, generally, they're the same. Does anyone have legal Guardianship over your niece? I'm not talking about her father, because she's 20,and considered an adult in her own right. Has she ever gone to Court, and been declared incompetent by the Court, and the Court appointed a Guardian for her? I'm doubting this is the case, but had to ask because, if she had a Guardian, this would be so much easier; you would just need to contact that person, and tell him/her about your niece's behavior. Let that person take care of her.Assuming she doesn't have a Guardian, you can try contacting her Psychologist or Psychiatrist, and letting that person know what's been going on. Or, you can contact your local Mental Health Center, and do the same. Worse case scenario is that your niece totally flips out, and it's night time on a wk-end. Look under your county's name in the phonebook for "Helpline, Crisis Mental Health Line" or something like that. Call them, tell them what's going on, and they will assist you if they can. A person who is paranoid schizophrenic can be very difficult to be responsible for, especially if not taking their meds. You really need to get involved with a helping agency like Mental Health for learning to cope with the ups and downs of being mentally ill. Good Luck, Becky
