  1. Hi to all my Strokeboard friends,

I have missed you all and the support you have given and I encouraging all who are new to this “new you”.  I’ve been dealing with a lot of pain and the State is cracking down on the Dr’s prescribing pain medication. I have a extreme torn Rotator Cuff in my shoulder. I now use a walker and am limited in driving.  But doing okay.

I hope this note finds you all well in your daily needs. Keep your hope up and blessings to you all!

    Your friend,

    Nancy Farrell

  2. After many attempts I finally found my old site.  Hello to all my friends. Hope

all is doing ok. I had a setback since our travels to Holland to visit oldest daughter & Dutch husband. Back hurting a lot. They did MRI & found Scholios & Osteporosis. Had back procedure to freeze back. A huge relief.

Good to be in touch again w/ help from Steve Mallory..  thank you! Good to be back in touch.

    Have a good day,

    Nancy Farrell

  3. Happy Anniversary Farrell!

  8. Goodmorning! When I had my bleed & stroke like 14 years ago I was not suppose to survive so I did everything possible to increase my strength. Was a slow process retrainng to walk, talk, swallow ect. yet w/out my therapists & faith I would not have regained all that I have. Even at that it's been a struggle to keep my focus positive, a daily reminder I am alive to watch my kids grow up. I have a wonderful husband. I know it must be frustrating for him to have patience w/ me yet we go through the rough spots & get up and walk forward. Still do my stretches daily before I put on my brace, walk w/ cane & can drive w/ left foot gas pedal which I am thankful to do. A big difference from being paralized on entire right side so I am thankful for in-pataient & out-patient rehab I had first few years after bleed & major stroke. You can make progress exercising, streching & keeping focus positive. This site has wonderful friends who understand what your goinng through~so hang in there and take one day at a time & as Jerrolyn said keep pushing yourself! Do you have a pool nearby? This has been a great tool for me to make headway w/ my hanging limbs & increase strentgh. Take care my friend!
  9. Hope todays a better day for you:) Just checking with you. I may add our daughter suggested she go away to a school when she refused to go to school anymore. Best thing we did. She did not want to go to anyone for help like your son. Our son is in the Job Corps & he really likes it. They help you get your drivers license & High School diploma(which he already has from special ed) He's 21 and was living w/ us until the time to go in Feb. He's taking a trade. Have a great Day & keep us posted on how your doing. Happy Mother's Day!
  10. I feel for you and understand toatlly about being a parent disabled to a defiant child or" teenager". My husband & I raised 4 children. We were in process of adopting 2 when i had my stroke. It wasn't easy raising 4 children w/ brain injury but I tried the best i could. I like what Fred had to say, if your boy is not home or does not contact you & is taking advantage warn him you will call the police if he is not home. Sounds like you have taken all his privledges away. How is doing in his school work? My youngest daughter treated me terrible, We finally sent her away to a boarding school for a year w/ some therapy that gave her life tools. My husband went to the school from grade school on w/ her problems. She & I both did therapy togehter but never seemed to work when she was about 10 yrs. old. She did home school when she returned home from boarding school but moved out when she turned 18. She's doing well now. But a long road for her...Back to you....Your health is more important so you can be there for your 2 children. Life is worth living even though at times the road gets rough. My daughter who I was talking about gave me a plaque last Christmas says "Whether you walk, run or stumble...never lose sight of the reason for the journey or miss a chance to see a rainbow along the way." I thought was specail, spoke to my heart coming from her and just now thought maybe she was also thinking for her. Hang in there! Keep us posted on how your doing. God's grace is there for you, He never gives us more than we can bare. Thanks for opening your heart to those who understand & care....
  11. Happy Birthday Farrell!

  13. You keep on...I got what your last post was.

I can relate wholeheartly!this site is awesome & an encouragement to keep whther it's a daily struggle or other. It took me many years to find the"new me"after i stroked.we survived for a reason, this life is temporary!Hang in there & you've found a friend! All the best to you~Nancy

  14. Hi BOB~ You have found a safehaven here on stroke board with special ones who understand & accept you for who you are today! At first when I was feeling down as you about my loved ones who couldn't understand or get to know the "new me" after my hemorge & stroke I had a support group. We moved to a smaller town for close support of friends yet I lost a group who could identify w/ my condition. My husband & I had 4 children (2 just newly adopted) When in rehab just after brain surgery to correct AVM that hemoraged I remember the day i left a nurse said "Nancy remember your family will always see you as normal" So after years of not being as they knew me before stroke it took several years for them to adjust. In fact I have a daughter now who I have to watch what i say as if i say something wrong she will get frustrated w/ me. I refuse to give up on her but it's just different. The love is still there. But I can't relax around her. Maybe when she gets older my husband says she'll under- stand. I still try to communicate w/ her & ask her about her life. As far as your family, if your not comfortable then gracefully stay home rather than not be able to be yourself. please don't give up on them, they still love you, may be hard for them also. Just a thought. But keep pushing forward :happydance:with your recovery doing exercises & theraqpy at home to strengthn your muscles. This site was an anchor for me & still is, knowing others can identify with different things that come after a stroke that we have to deal with. I was not suppose to live(they couldn't get bleeding to stop)but I pulled through by the grace of God. I have a wonderful husband(not always easy) but he is a support. I am thankful to be alive to watch my children grow up. Take care my friend!
