  2. Happy Anniversary Englishrose!

  3. Sandy that sounds good thank you. I have some crayons- might get a kids colouring book to try- thank you so much it's a great idea
  4. Hi I've only had problems with writing not my sight or anything else so you'd think I'd be more relaxed but it does mean a lot to me to write - I will try to do something every day !
  5. David I agree- we are all getting older and that affects energy too- this time last year I was doing so much more and it's a tough call learning to live within new and less robust energy resources - but yeah you just go with what your body is telling you to do - all the best , Roz
  6. Thankfully I stay awake all day-but not much makes me tired these days. I was at church last week and felt God saying to me that I'd "changed gear" As a driver those words helped me understand-to navigate through life right now I must move in a different, and slower gear. It takes more "fuel" and I should bear that in mind too, but I need this gear because the journey now is uphill. If that helps anyone managing their energy levels- Fab!
  7. Hi I'm left handed and it was my left side affected by stroke which is a bummer- I did try using my right hand but that was dreadful my writing is actually better some days than others but I'm working on the brain creating new pathways as you teach it that certain skills are needed; I'm also practising visualising my hand writing as I've heard thAts a proven technique for recovery thanks anyway, Roz
  8. ThAnk you both it's almost a year since my stroke- I thought recovery was very long term and certainly beyond a year! However I'll be glad when the anniversary is over I must say . I too find it encouraging to read other peoples stories so I'm glad it's helped
  9. One of my biggest personal losses as a result of stroke was handwriting- ok we use computers and phones most of the time but cards, lists, diary I still prefer to write. I cannot confess to being as committed to practising my writing as I have been about general fitness, but suddenly, with no warning, it's improved exponentially. If anyone knows the "why" I am intrigued! its not quite how it was but its much improved.
  10. Hi Yvonne I take an iron tonic- from memory you're in the USA so you probably think the nhs here are helpful. It's easier to get a bottle of flora dix than it is to persuade a gp to run tests believe me. ! Thanks for your lovely comments though x
  11. Hi Kristen I do feel it will be different at least in my own mind after the one year anniversary- the fatigue thing is random, sometimes I feel I'm gaining energy then something will come along to sap it and I feel dreadful then. This falls under the category of things they don't tell you I think - I had a cold last week and it seemed to bring the fatigue back on - all I can do is pace myself more steadily and wait for some energy to return but it feels like there's a hole in my bucket! My doctor last year encouraged me to exercise and I've been building up ever since -my next goal is to add circuit training to my regular classes but I've moderated that goal to after christmas to make sure I'm ready to go up a gear -- the exercise is to control my weight and improve cardio vascular health I've been quite focused - although swimming Also tones the body . Thanks anyway I'm very encouraged right now by others ahead of me on their journey - keep on keeping on Kristen xx
  12. thanks Sue those words are very true-its just such a slog I keep wanting the "old me" back!
  13. This is a good way of expressing your progress- as I type I am using my left hand just a little- from being able to type without checking the keyboard, my typing is possible with two hands if I look as I type- so slow! I cannot write very well either and yes somehow I thought this would all be sorted by now- its persistent practice I think- keep up the blogging
  14. Well it's almost a one year anniversary (17 October) since my stroke. I've been thinking about that pretty much for the last few weeks, how a day started fine and ended with me in hospital unable to move my left side. I've found comments on here very helpful- you see I look and sound pretty much ok now but I cannot write very well, my left hand still needs work, to infuse any energy at all I have to buy an iron tonic- that perks me up! I do exercise religiously- tonight is the spinning class, I go swimming too both have helped my weight and tone. But I still feel I only have half a life- due to a profound lack of energy, and it bugs me. I have to take care not to get overtired otherwise I am done in for days- I know there are no answers, it will take as long as it takes , but it's very frustrating!
  15. Happy Birthday Englishrose!
