  4. Happy Anniversary Itjustis!

  5. Hi Dave! I'm hoping my husband will agree to this event - I think it would be great for both of us! His first stroke was July, 27, 2010 (anniversary this Friday). We live in Hudson, just over the River.
  6. Hi Pam, Although I'm the spouse of a survivor, I think I understand this " I suppose if I had a problem that they could actually see it would be different.". I feel this way regarding my hubby (who also lost his left peripheral vision in both eyes) - he too can do most things for himself, and we are grateful, but there are indeed changes. I use to think it would be so nice if others could acknowledge the changes and the challenges but I'm not so sure anymore. Some folks just don't 'get it'. I hope you have someone with whom you can chat and measure out your options - it's a big decision and only you can make it. Peace to you. toni

    No Idle Hands Here

I so understand "no idle hands here" and I LOVE your mother-in-law's quote - it's perfect! So excited to hear of Bernie's progress - and good for you Mike, hanging in there as you do!!! As difficult as it can be to have folks coming and going from your home, I'm hoping it continues to work for you and Bernie. While you already know this (I'm sure of it, and I bet you've heard it countless times from others as well) make sure you continue to take care of yourself as well, and accept those offers of help (that's where I made my big mistake, then they stop asking...). Glad you found the time to post - know you continue to be in frequent thoughts and prayers! You're also a continued inspiration - you and Bernie! Peace Mike. toni

    Merry Christmas to all.....

So great to hear from you Mike. We've had our own rollcoaster as of late (Fred stroked again and also had to undergo open heart surgery again and now again is hospitalized because of infection) and I haven't gotten to the board much to check on others - but know you've continued in my prayers. i think it's only folks here who can chuckle at the visuals you provide, yet have full compassion for your situation. I also sense your love for Bernie - it's how I feel about Fred - we simply do whatever it takes - we keep on trying. Praying for Bernie's continued recovery and your well being too. Thank you for your continued postings - you offer encouragement. Peace.
  12. Happy Birthday, Itjustis! Have many, many more!

    Murphy's Wounded And Down

I am so happy to hear this news Mike!!! You and Bernie have been in my prayers, and will continue to be. During Fred's first hospitalization, one of the doctors told me that our prayers and Fred's own spirit did more for his healing than the medical community ever could - I'm thinking your Bernie is a lot like my Fred! May you continue to know the healing power in your lives, especially toward Bernie's continued recovery and your ongoing strength and perseverance! Peace, toni
  15. "In the end I realised that I needed to simply live today’s realities" I've only been my husband's caregiver for a very short time, and nowhere near the level as some, yet it comes with its own set of emotions and changes (most of which aren't seen by others, making it even more challenging sometimes). Your words of experience Sue, are very much appreciated, especially the words I included above - I simply want to say thank you. Peace, toni
