I am a researcher by profession, so finding alternative treatments is not difficult. Here's an example. In the past few weeks a study report was released stating that giving 10mg. of amphetimine before before physicaltheray gives a better outcome. Electrical or magnetic stimulation helps in the brain regaini its plasticity in forming new neural paths. The brain is a magnificent organ. Also, playing fast paced arcade games for 45 minutes 2X a day helps with vicion problems. I search google a couple times a wewek looking for the anouncement of new studies and treatment. Ypu can't depend on your doctor to be up the minute on new treatments. Ypu have to take that responsibility for yourself.

Hi Joyce
I admire you for your conviction into alternative treatments, they do have there place in modern medicine but without the dedicated doctors that give
there lives to saving others i would not be typing this. I believe they go hand in hand

Isn't this research something that our national stroke organizations - ASA and NSA - be doing for us rather than have each stroke survivor do the research on their own. I would have to say they are falling down on the job. I have had to do all my research myself since doctors that I have workd with are at least 10 years out-of-date. And it is not just alternative treatments. Shouldn't we also find out what Europe or China are doing for research? Sorry this is a pet peeve of mine.

Hi I am new to this forum. My mom had a haemorragic stroke 5 months ago. She is paralyzed on her right side and I am wondering if anyone has had positive results using acupuncture at all.

Look in the Therapies section in our Classic Articles from our monthly newsletter. We published articles on Acupuncture in May 2008.
