In Topic: Is she loosing her mind?

16 May 2013 - 07:42 PM

Jhari For me sometimes I forget what I've said about the time I say it. I don't stay focused on the present at all. my mind wanders steady. in order to stay ob track with tasks I'll often repeat short cues until I do things ie "dog " - to let dog out " dishwasher" - start dishwasher & yes my brain feels like it is in "la la land half the time I think it is ongoing confusion - My right brain was damaged - so I'm paralyzed on the left - javen't been able to do much with the physical deficits -- over the 10 years my mental ability has improved and I continually learn new coping skills. never know what day it is anymore - no need to

See what others have to say. I just know how confused I can get lost in a present conversation.

Debbie rather than booking rooms online. I phone to find out if they have a right assist bar - I've even asked someone to go & check telling them the room is no good to me without it. - so far people have been good about it.

then we have to take everything but the kitchen sink. so if you are going to go stay a few days.

Personally - I've given up on air travel
bbefore her marriage my LPN daughter cathed me to fly to Houston when my mom was ill and on her way down.
no way I could do that 4 hr flight without bathroom.

one trip we landed in Dallas Ft worth to change to a smallerplane to fly into smaller airport & the gate wasn't available - so we'd have to do stairs - scared to death.! they used a lift to get me down.
so I won't try w/o cath & justWayne & I.

at least Bruce could pee without having to sit on that tiny toilet

Good luck

acessible rooms should all be on ground floor. one of the last we were in has a sign " in case of fire do not use elevator "duh! I keep meaning to write our provincial (like state) fire marshall. my biggest beef would be stair railing on one side only. hotels should have to do both sides we strokies & amputees need that! it wouldn't be easy - but I could get down with a railing & not a chance without.
just one of my beefs hope you guys can manage. we do not need a bath every day - if we are going just for a day or 2 - there are some great disposable wipes & the ole spit bath if it becomes an issue.

hope you can find a way to make this work for both of you. we still need fun I've started to measure effort against enjoyment & still try to fit in a nap - or I crash

good luck Debbie

Fred, as the others - I am thrilled you are thru the surgery with success. any surgery is a cause for some concern & you are right about knowing & understandingall you can. fear usually comes from the unknown & knowledge is power. here's to a great recovery

the other eye will depend upon many things : the rate of deterioration, your age & your health. when the time is right , both you & your doc will know.
take care of yourself and God bless

I'm a child of the 60's bell bottoms & flowered shirts with white collars & cuffs. so I've had a toke or 2. I really don't see it any worse than booze -- too many drinks = trouble & too many tokes can = trouble. in moderation either are fine & it's great to be able to laugh at any thing.

I hope it can work for whomever gets to try it. I can see it helping the anxiety & tenseness

Like every one else I'd be interested in results & I tend to agree with Grim -- it may very well be better than the assorted pain meds & sleeping aids we are taking
