Christmas Party #1 has come and gone

Well, the Orchid Society has had their 2005 Christmas Party. Like last year, instead of going to a restaurant for 25.00 or so a person, it was catered for $11,00 this year. That includes a small orchid plant too. My sister was lucky and won a poinsettis door prize also. Too bad she didn't get one of the orchids they were giving out but I have one of that type and when it needs tobe divided she will have one too.   We had fresh fruits, veggies with dressing , shrimo, egg rolls, meatballs and a

Countdown to the big day!

THREE MORE WEEKS!   Had a lovely time this afternoon. There was an article in the paper that the Lutheran church not to far from here was having a Christmas program of Christmas songs. The public was invited and it was a lovely program. Except for some songs, many were German songs which aren't commonly sung. There also told the story of Christmas and brought in the Holy infant. From where I was sitting (and forgetting my glasses) it looked like a doll because there wasn't a sound from this

The wild time of year

Whilw we have enjoyment seeing all the beautiful decorations and lights everywhere, this is also the season of "rush-rush". Everyone is in a hurry! To me this is the worst time of year to be out driving or even in a car. Not only are people frazzled from their shopping sprees, but they may be "lifted" from all the Christmas parties. These parties aren't virtual and the booze isn't in the imagination. This happens every holiday, but I wonder what the statistics are for accidents for the month. Ye

It's December 1st! A Lot has happened!

Red for the holidays It's hard to believe that it already is December 1. The days have flown by. Wonder if that is a sign of age? While I'm sure for many with great illness problems, time has more or less stood still. It's sort of like my ICU experience. I'd sleep and sleep and when I'd wake up on a new day, I'd think another day and I'm still here. It should have been with happpiness that I had that thought - there is the other alternative, but it was one of frustration. I was happy to go to s

the morning after the weekend

Well, it's Monday morning and I must get back to reality. The "vacation" is over and it will be Cgristmas when I am again able to really get a good rest. In fact after I'm finished doing this, I have to check and see if I have to complete something today or if I may have a few extra days.   Those of you who know me know I am a purple person (except when I forget to close the tags) but I am green for a reason. Think this is interesting. I am not Catholic but have many friends who are. Somewher

The Art Show

One of the things I miss from South Florida is the Coconut Grove Art Show. I went every year and not necessarily for the art. While I would buy something if I had seen something I liked, I'm - ah let's see if I can choose the right term - how about FRUGAL Knowing me as I do though the word CHEAP really fits better. The show is held the weekend of President's Day and also is on Monday for those that have a 4 day weekend. It is a huge event with several blocks blocked off for the event. Also, you

Friday after Thanksgiving is for....SHOPPING!

Those of you who know me should not be surprised that, yes, I am one of those nuts who must shop the day after Thanksgiving.   Today was no exception. I do not get at the store before it opens and stand in line to get the special items, but today, I left earlier than planned. I wanted a Roomba - a robot of vacuum. I have always gotten caught in the cord of vacuum cleaners; that could be extra dangerous for me now, especially since I will be living in the boonies. While my dog called 911 once

Oh, my aching tummy! Ate too much!

Belch, belch, - excuse me - I ATE TOO MUCH! We went to the buffet as planned and although it was early, they were already jammed. I ate myself silly. When we got home, I did the wrong thing- went to bed and fell asleep. The wrong thing to do.Had a Pepsi, probably should have had a gingerale with a squirt of lemon (works wonders) and am ready for another Pepsi now. Everyone is sleeping- the cats. the dog, even my sister. I ve got about 1-1/2 hours before Jay Leno and sleep.   Had some sad ex

I'm so tired!

I'm so tired that I'm sitting here falling asleep. It's 2:25 pm and 64 degrees. (Yes, I'm cold too) I wish I could get under the covers and go to sleep, but my fridge unit is waiting for me. Yes, should have, could have taken a nap this am but didn't. I llok over at the bed and my dog is sleeping on my pillows. You know, she has more sense than I do, Guess my play time is over. The sooner I go, the sooner I'll be back - and then the bed is going to be mine!.....if the "boss" (my chihuahua) let'

Wrapping Christmas gifts

I believe it was Lin who said her shopping is done. I HATE YOU! Just kidding of course. I always seem to be "a last minute running around shopper" My intentions are always good and I am one of the nuts that partakes in the day after Thanksgiving madness.   Then there is the wrapping. I thought the whole country heard me laughing when Lin said her packages looked like they were packed by a 5 year old child or something like that. Meet your twin!. This morning I had to pack several gifts that w

The UM Hurricanes got me depressed!

I couldn't wait to see the UM-Georgia Tech football game last night and UM did it to me again - They lost! Boo Hoo! They messed up big time and they were hoping that# 1 or 2 would loose and they at #3 would be in the championship game. Well, the only bowl they'll be in is the toiet bowl! Grr. Not very ladylike of me, but I take my football teams seriously. The Dolphins have been duds for years now and the one ray of light was my Hurricanes and now this.   I should have continued my hibernatio

Hibernating this weekend

Think I pushed my poor body almost to the brink. Dumb me. I caught myself just nodding off to sleep while in the car. Thank goodness, I was parked and not driving at the time. Then I sat down to do my paperwork and when I got up thought I'd fall flat on my face. Luckily the table was there to catch me. The worst though was when I started to walk and it appeared that both my legs were numb and I seemed unable to walk for a second. Sure scared me back to reality. Finished up and slowly drove home

So here I am again- PLAYING!

OK, it's playtime but no, Gary, I haven't done my work yet. So far so good with the work I have - Same company as the striped pencils which made me sick, but no pencils. This time Christmas decorations and gift wrap. The do have names though and trying to figure if Breanna or Briana comes first takes a little longer for this stroked brain, LOL That one is more obvious than some and there are names like Taylor that can be for boys or girls. Have to check color for those. So it's off to the glu

What are the odds?

Yesterday I went to a fashion show that a club I belong to presented. I was on the committee. There was a contest among florists. They could show their talents so potential buyers and we would have centerpieces free. I was at Table 6. There were 8 of us at the table. Everyone entering got a raffle number. There were 15 arrangements and our table had 5 or 6 of us winning the arrangements! Mine had white silk pointsettias and for a Florida look, starfish, shells, greens etc. Very attractive. Many

My hangover

Oh! What a hangover! So much booze at the party. I just lost control.........Oh, you weren't there? Too bad, you missed all the fun. Maybe next time, since the jutebox is already paid for the "budget" can include the wet tee shirts and JS's. They could have our logo and the date and the reason for the occasion. Reservations will be a must since we'll really be crowded. How about 10,000 members. Shouldn't take long with the way membership is going. And that should give us a little time to fill ou

Decisions, decisions

There are so many things which have come up that I want to share with "my stroke family" that I don't know where to start. I lost to cyber space an answer to a letter. Guess the cyber God felt I wasn't using good judgement and deleted it. Perhaps if the topic comes comes up again, I'll step up on my soapbox.   Then there is sharing with you my happiness about my (Grand)Nephew, becoming the 2005 Enduro Champion of Dirt Biking. His picture adorns the Florida Dirt Biker (Magazine). I guess it fr

Another, it's that time of year

It's here! I went into a grocery store yesterday to do my work and there it was CHRISTMAS! Oh they had items for Thanksgiving too, but gift items, lights, garlands for sale etc. were starting to push everything over. Even the sales paper you get when you walk in was full of Christmas. I supposed when you have to send packages - some overseas - it isn't really that far away.

Happt Turn the clocks back day!

It's that time of year again. I'm not sure if all states change their time; we do in Florida. If you also do, did you enjoy your extra hour of sleep? I'm ok with this, but I have a hard time turning back my doggies internal clock. Those who also have animals. same problem? If not, all tips would be welcome.

Magnets, Jar openers, yardsticks and pens

I sound like an elevator operator - that's for those old enough to remember beyond self operating elevators. Yes, they were fun - anyway..........This was the weekend set aside for the annual Home Show in Daytona Beach (Florida - for those out of the US who may not have heard of the town) It's the greatest freebie around and a kind of Trick and Treat for adults. Except for parking which is reduced for this event, or if someone drops you off and comes back for you, it's FREE and you can take hom

Yipee - not working today or tomorrow

Yipee, Yahoo, I'm off today and tomorrow! Well, not exactly, It was somewhat of a choice on my part. The co, I work for decided that old Wilms would maybe visit here and so did not send new stock to the stores they felt would be involved. My 4 stores were on the list.   The one problem for me though, was because the store was ok, we are supposed to go and straighten up, see if there was any damage which obvious there was not etc. I made the decision that this was a gift to me- one I desparate

Just patiently waiting..............

It's Sunday and not many people have blogged, do to church, being busy with family etc. I'm here though, patiently waiting for Hurricane Wilma. It appears that she will go to South Florida, where I used to live, rather than come here as last year. We will get the tropical storm and t.s. winds but they are nothing compared to the real thing. As for flooding, although on a peninsula, the property is above sea level enough to be no bother.   During the storm, I will probably sleep. Can't use the

I was bad today

Today was the yearly Orchtober Fest and I feel like I blew the bank! My reasoning is that I will need large floor plants because I haven't much furniture - (well, isn't that a good reason?) I bought 2 large plants which aren't your usual orchids. One is especially beautiful. Now if I don't kill them. ....While everyone looses plants, many don't admit it. I do. In fact I am trying to bring a dead plant back. don't think I'll succeed. Well, with those 2 and the small free one they gave, and 2 oth

I'm Plain Beat

I so tired I'll be glad when Saturday comes - well after Orchtober Fest. One of the Orchid dealers is having a show and has invited about 7 other dealers. Because the family is German, it is held now and has a German theme (food, music, beer) When I come home with my goodies, I'll put them aside to pot on Sunday and go right to bed. Yesterday I was so tired I came home. made a tv dinner and went right to bed (and fell asleep) tonight I have about 1/2 hour before Jay Leno, Don't think I'll make i

Biketober Fest anyone?

It's that time when the bikers take over Daytona Beach, Florida and the "natives" who don't ride stay home. They sure are interesting. Today passed a whole bunch each with a bikerchick on the back of cycle - AND none of them were wearing helmets. They managed to get the law repealed. I can understand liking the wind go through your hair but I also know that the neurosurgeons are kept busy if their brains aren't left on the cement. The hospital in Daytona has a special section during spring bike
