Scared another client ...

OOPS - I did it again. I scared another client by breaking into glorious tears!   Yesterday, She had come in to "negotiate" the final payment on her donor wall. "We can't afford this it will put us $500.00 over budget" she said. "You made the changes, I told you what it would cost, and sent you itemized statements that you approved" I replied.   "But, I didn't tell my boss" she says - her problem, not mine. She took out her personal checkbook to pay the difference and I end up sobbing.

It's over, Thank God.

I'm not going to tell you it was a wonderful party. I went home in tears at 8:00, the party lasted until a little after 2:30 in the morning. The mugs went over great, the cake was beautiful, and there was more than enough food for four army's. I even had a beer, and I hate beer.   By 8:00 I was very, very tired, the party had started at 1:00. Just entertaining for that amount of time can make you tired. Of course, when I get tired I have terrible word retrival problems. So as the night wore

party torture

Today's the day. The in laws have started arriving already. I pick up the cake at 10, meet people at the hotel at two, the party for 39 people who RSVP'ed, actually starts at 6. I've figured 45 will show up - (free beer after all) - because, half the people don't know RSVP means "just tell me if you are going to drop by - I don't care if you can't stay long"   I should be sleeping now. I'm hosting a party tonight when I haven't been awake after 9 o clock since the stroke. I should really n

The day from .....

Yesterday was one of the worst I've had in a long time. I missed a deadline on a huge project, because I really thought the client was "kidding" he gave me his final approval on the 19th and expected a wall installed on the 21st. Crystal that had been ordered came in wrong. Some one forgot to order a custom cast piece that's due next week so, I was scrambling trying to get that in. I found out that one of our salespeople quoted net pricing on a 5,000 piece job. If it could go wrong - it did. I s

Ryan's IEP

Ryan's IEP was today. That's an "individualized education program" meeting. They told us what we already knew. We have a great, funny, smart, disorganized kid who hates to do homework. So what else is new?   Ryan never told his teachers, his counselor, his tutor about my stroke. Robin - his guidance counselor assumed I had a drinking problem as my speech is worse at night then it is during the day - call me (after I've been up since 6 am) at 8 pm and I sound drunk. By 8:30 - I'm asleep. I

The 50th

I am laughing so hard right now I'm crying. Jerry just got his AARP application in the mail today.   I told him I'm not ready for early bird dinners at 4:00, and although travel is discounted, I have no desire to visit Florida.   I think it's finally hit him ... he's about to turn 50. Today he dozed off sitting on the couch while watching golf - and Katie said "he snores just like Grandpa" - That woke him up and sent me into hysterics.   He asked me "Honey, do you think I'm still you

Jerry's 50th Birthday - I couldn't do it without y

Ok - the house still isn't in perfect shape but, the party has grown to be really big- 70 people are expected.!   Tomorrow night we'll go to JT Whitneys to taste the beer and try the hor derves I plan to serve. I ordered some HOWW beer mug's (howwmfg.com - I think) that say "I survived Jerry's 50th" to give to everyone. The decorations are taken care of, I even bought a life size stand up of James Dean, to point the way to the party room.   One of our friends, who's a comedian in LA, has

Dead Roses

I just realized - I have dead roses all over my house.   White roses that the Farleys sent me after Dave died, are in a grapevine wreath.   Pink roses that Jerry gave me for Mother's Day two years ago, sit in an old vase.   Red roses that my sister in law picked from her garden are on a frame, that's also covered in lavendar and moss.   Peach rose buds are attached to the candles, in the living room.   Yellow roses sit on angel in my family room.   There are rose's all over my

Painting and thinking

Well, today I'm going to finish painting the kitchen- getting the house ready for Jerry's birthday.   One of my girlfriends asked why Jerry wasn't painting or wallpapering. We've been there - it wasn't pretty. There are certain things my husband isn't allowed to do. Hanging wallpaper and programing the vcr come to mind.   I'm sorry but, he can't do either of those things right and the results are disasterous when he tries. Trust me over the years I've saved alot of money on wallpaper by

Party

I got ambushed at Easter - My Sister in law told me the whole family was coming to Madison for Jerry's 50th birthday.   We've lived here 18 years and they've never visited.   And all 4 of his brothers and both his sisters, and thier respective wives and husbands descend on us in three weeks! Not to mention Jerry's mom and the college age nieces and nephews in a tri- state area (they heard free beer and intend to drive up to 4 hours for that)!   So - now, I'm throwing a Birthday Party

No one will believe it.

I have a neighbor - he's a retired marine.   He's nuts.   He's not the kind of "shoot your neighbors -kill the democrats" nuts, but, he's close. You've read my story about the Christmas lights. He still has his lights up.   He also has red, white and blue flamingo's in his yard. Next to the life size sculpture of an eagle - well lighted of course -with it's wings extended. In front of his 8 foot flag pole. Flying the American flag -of course.   Well, he didn't have to go to wor

Sheer H E Double Toothpicks!

You've read my post asking for prayer's for my Mother In Law   - what you don't know is that I've had 48 hours of what can only be described as crap!   Someone shot at my house last night with a pellet gun - missing my son by 2 feet (he was on the computer - the windows in the "office" face the front of the house and the shades were opened) breaking a window.   The police showed up at 12:30 - a half hour later - and did NOTHING.   Ryan had just been at another funeral - for the 17

Sick of snow

Do you know why it continues to snow here?   It's all because of my freaking neighbors! They refuse to take their Christmas Lights down! They light them up everynight, confusing spring into believing it's still winter!   It's March 18th already! The kids are on Spring Break next week!   I'm sick of snow but, the neighbors are courting winter. I'm thinking about taking the lights down myself - In the middle of the night, I'd creep up and silently put them all away in a box marked Chris

Don't pay attention - I'm whining

It's 5:30 am and I'm not looking forward to today!   it's going to be the day from hell and I know it.   I have to fire a salesperson - she was my friend before she started working for me. She's been on the payroll for 5 months without making a sale. I don't know what else to do, I've tried everything short of selling something and putting her name on the order.   I have to meet with two clients that I really don't care for. They are both indecisive and deadlines are approaching. I wan

Let's order carry out!

I spent 6 hours yesterday cooking. I made egg rolls, shrimp egg foo young and Governor Tso's chicken and shrimp fried rice. All from scratch. And it was all gone in 20 minutes.   The same amount of time it would have taken to order and pick up carry out.   I can't believe pre-stroke I really invested that much time in making a meal. I can tell you from now on if it takes longer to make the meal than it takes to eat the meal, we'll be ordering carry out.   And we'll get free fortune c

Mr. Wonderful

I am so mad I could spit! - not really ... spitting is gross - but, it's a damn good expression!   I worked all week (and it was the week from hell!) and told myself I'd really clean the bathroom (scrape the crevices of the grout with a toothpick, CLR everything, even detach the toilet seat to make sure everything was spotless) Something Ryan and Jerry couldn't fathom when they "pick up".   I'd cook a fabulous dinner (you know about the 6 hours preparing it - or read my last entry) - do

Making Pasta!

I made tortellini today.   Using my Grandmother's recipe and her old mercato pasta machine I hand cranked for hours. I kept telling myself it was physical therapy because I had to re-do the lengths of pasta many times. When you hand crank pasta you have to be consistent or the dough is thinner in some places. Right handed cranking left me with a lot odd textured pasta! I made spaghetti noodles first. It's easy because you just crank the flattened dough through a cutter. My left arm cranked th

old friend?

Today I ran into an old friend? at the grocery store. I am not a touchy feely person (in other words - do not invade my personal space!) but this woman - who I haven't seen in two years - had to give me a hug. I was polite and didn't flinch but, the hug knocked me off balance. I explained "I had a stroke in August and I have some balance issues"   Well, this lunatic starts wailing "YOU'RE Too young to have a stroke - Oh God Why you!!" and a whole bunch of other such nonsense in a voice loud

Deadlines and work

I'm under all sorts of deadlines in the next week. I look at Monday on my calendar and start getting nervous! I'm in meetings all day with two proposals due for Tuesday. I have two donor walls to complete and one more that has to be designed by next week. And I'm SO disorganized, I can't even find my desk. My short term memory is worthless, so I have no idea HOW to do what I've always done. Jerry bought a new coffee maker - a perkolater. And I can't remember how the freaking thing works and h

I'm Freaking Drooping!

I'm freaking drooping!   For months, my right bra strap has fallen off my shoulder. Inconvienient, and embarassing to say the least. Reaching into whatever I am wearing to jerk the strap into place.   I thought I've got to buy some new bra's but, I realized tonight that's not the problem. The bra's are fine. The freaking shoulder is drooping!   I looked in the mirror when I was getting ready to take a shower - (not a good idea in any case) - but, tonight was a rude awakening. The 10

Football and Big Events

I'm hiding from football - on Superbowl Sunday. It's not that I don't understand the game, I was a cheerleader in High School and College, so I understand it.   I just find it boring. And the pre-game pre-show stuff makes me crazy!   I guess my husband feels the same way about "E! Live from the red carpet" that I watch before any awards show - but, how else would you know what NOT to wear to the next "big event" you go to?   The black and white number Julia Robert's wore to the Oscar

Working

I'm supposed to be working but, I'm not. My shoulders and neck ache like the day I had my stroke. I take a deep breath, knowing the stress of the 18 orders and three problems sitting on my desk are probably responcible for this "panic attack". I'm not hot or tingly on my left side, and just because my hearts beating like a salsa dancer, doesn't mean I'm going to have another stroke. I have an appointment coming in at 11:00 and I've got to get this "panic and pain" under control by then. I'm scar

Falling down

I fell down three cement steps yesterday - but it felt like a million. I pretended it was the ice that made me slip but, if I had to tell the truth, my right leg forgot what to do, just for a second. That second was like one of those dreams where you're falling and you wake up right before you land. All slow motion and almost gentle - but, then I landed. On the hard cement, on my right side. I have a bruise the size of Spokane on my hip, another shaped like Dallas on my right arm, and my right h
