Stroke has now Struck my Father!!

:Soapbox: Now the ugly demon STROKE has struck another member of my family, this time my Dad. He had a stroke in his Cerebellum on Sunday, December 13, 2009. Three and a half years since my husband, George's stroke. He was lucky it was not a massive stroke like Georges but it was bad enough. My Dad will be 83 Jan 4th and was a very active man. He bowled in two leagues, played golf, shot pool, played shuffleboard and bocche ball every week. He fell a week before his stroke thinking he had a

George's 3rd year anniversary 6//13/06

Good grief it has been almost a year since I wrote in this. I don't know if it is because I am too busy, haha or what. BUT I realized I didn't publish my last years' blog. This time last year my Mom had just died. It has been quite a year since then. I really miss her. My Dad is doing well, stays active all the time. I know he misses Mom and has had a couple meltdowns but all in all he is great.   Tomorrow will the the 3rd anniversary of George having his stroke. Our life has changed

2nd Anniversary for George

It's been a long time since I wrote in my blog. My Mom died May 21st in Florida. My sister and I along with our husbands were able to be with her for her last week. It was a wonderful time. Mom was alert but failing. We talked and shared and just loved her all we could. My Dad was so glad to have us there with him during that time. We left Wednesday morning May 21 and Mom died that night. I know she is in Heaven and is at peace and has no pain. My Dad is doing very well. He has a very

Sad Day Mom going to Nursing Home

It's been months since I entered anything in my blog but I need to today. Yesterday my Dad put my Mom in a ursing home. She also is a stroke survivor. Not massive strokes but enough that it has impaired her and after a fall that broke her arm several years ago her health has declined. Most days she just lays around. She used to be such a vibrant woman, directed a Sweet Adeline Chorus and sang in a quartet. She kept a beautiful house and always dressed nice, got her nails and hair done. My

Seeing some improvement - After a year!!!!

George is making some improvements and it has been over a year so the deal about not being able to make improvements past the first year, I just don't believe it. His improvements are in his ability to speak. He still has aphasia but he told me he thinks he is starting to understand things better. He is initiating conversations. He is starting to help me in the kitchen some too. I feel really blessed with the improvements he is making. It is amazing how wonderful the small things are now a

EEE GADS I'M TIRED

:dribble: My My MY I know I am not the only tired caregiver but I need a vacation!!! It's been months since I blogged. I work all day at the computer so I tend to try and get away from it in my off time. George is making some improvements. The incontinent issue is getting better during the day and he can now use the bathroom, night time is still cautious. I still am working from home 5 days a week and still caring for George 24/7. I have a caregiver who comes and is wonderful but she

IM so stressed and SECOND guessing my decisions

I hope I can come back to this blog someday and laugh at myself for being so silly and stressed out but this has been one heck of a last two weeks for me. I want to retire or quit my job and stay home full time but there's the issue of insurance..........My poor little brain just has been running around in circles trying to decide this trying to do that thinking of ways I can make our life easier and all the while I keep getting more UNorganized and stressed. Last week I decided I would sell

After the flu

George is finally feeling better after getting the stomach flu. I just didn't realize how much more he would be affected than someone who has not had a stroke. It affected his speech and energy level and everything else. It really scared me when he was so sick. Luckily the dr had prescribed Fenagren for me a couple of days before George got sick and I was able to give him some with the DR's ok. He was in Bed from Friday to Sunday and only got up for a little while Sunday. He finally told m

George went to ER thought he had a seizure today

George went to Outpatient Rehab today at 8:30 am. His first therapy was Physical Therapy. The therapist, Scotty, had him walking with his platform walker and then had him standing in this contraption for 15 minutes, rested then had him stand again. All of a sudden as he was standing there his right eye went sideways and the right corner of his mouth tightened up and he looked "glazed" I told Scotty that something was wrong (he was standing behind George) so we had him sit down. I thought he

George and I both had the Stomach Flu this week

This has been a terrible week for George and Me. I had the grandkids over the weekend and my oldest grandson, Mayson, had the stomach virus the previous week but was over it (or so it seemed) I went to Chattanooga and brought them back home with me Saturday. Mayson had a skating birthday party so we roller skated Saturday and came home later that day after his basketball game. It was a great day. Sunday evening my daughter came and spent the night and Monday took the boys home with her and my
