TORTURE AS THERAPY

Today it was back to therapy after the weekend off. Shelly had me try to sit on a very large ball. I think the CIA should use that instead of waterboarding. That was not fun, and I felt very uneasy at best. I had never had 'the ball torture' before. It did give me a good workout though. I did fairly well walking. A little further each day. I didn't wear my left 'clown' shoe (2 sizes larger than the right), so the afo started to hurt my foot. Back to the clown shoe tomorrow, and I pray no more bi

Snow day

We had some wet, heavy snow this morning, so Teddy's Aunt Kim had to take him out. He usually goes to the med room for a treat, but today all he wanted to do was to go see his daddy. He made a beeline str8 to my room. Kim brought him his treat later. I was able to walk a little farther today, and tomorrow Shelly wants me to try to go into the dining room and sit down. Shelly also had me stand up with no brace on. I put some weight on my left leg. I could only stand 1 minute, but my left leg

Getting better

Today's session with my therapist went better. I told her I wasn't going to leave Teddy in the bathroom anymore. Instead, when I go to the dining room, I will leave the wheelchair in the hallway after I leave my room and have my walker handy nearby. Shelly was satisfied with that solution. So all is well. Poor Teddy was so PO'ed at me, I felt terrible. He was well behaved during his imprisonment. He wasn't crying at all and did not tear anything up. The little guy was such a super trooper.

another day?

I finally got my new kafo, but unfortunately, there were problems with it. :yeahrite: I have two therapists and only one of them could get it locked and it took her almost 45mins. The good news is the other therapist borrowed an afo and I could actually walk with it, some. I had problems keeping my foot flat on the carpet. I could keep my foot in place when they finally got my new kafo on, but my foot would catch on the carpet. I had to take my kafo back to the VA so it is being repaired. Until

Teddy likes carrots and other odds and ends

A few people suggested carrots for 'el perro gordo' (the fat dog). I did not think he would like them, but I brought some back from lunch, and he really liked them. I am also really looking forward to getting my kafo on Feb 26. This time I will not have to go all the way to the VA for PT. They now have people to do it here now. So no more long unwanted tours of Denver. I really want to get back to work, this chair is hurting my butt. I have even started working on my resume. I would like to g

Thunder snow

Last night we had some thundersnow (a thunderstorm with snow rather than rain). It is a bit unusual, I have lived in Denver almost 14 years and this is only the second time I saw it. I was going through some of my old photographs and I found some pictures I thought I lost. One set was of a trip I took to Washington DC back in1984, while I was in the Air Force. It was my first trip to DC and it was a 'business' trip I took with a guy named Dan. That guy was the most vain person I had ever met.

Frito Pie

Today at lunch we had an original South Texas creation: Frito Pie. It started out in Donna, Texas sometime in the 50's or 60's. Some guy would take a small bag of Frito corn chips, cut it open and then pour in some Chili. He sold them from a little kiosk, it really caught on and evolved into a great dish with many variations. Now it is usually baked with fritos, canned or homemade chilie, cheese and onions. We had it once before, but it had mushrooms. That is a major faux pas for Frito pie afici

Good news, bad news

I got a letter today (actually it came yesterday) from the VA and I have an appointment with Ortho on Feb 26! That can only mean my KAFO has arrived (wetting pants); there must have been a hard freeze in hades. But I will take what I can get. But (there is always a but), last night the backrest fell off of my wheelchair :yikes: . I almost fell out of the darn thing two times. The ole' gray mare just ain't what it used to be. Besides the backrest, a few weeks ago a wheel fell off. :Furious:

Cold as ice

Boy, it has been cold, the temp now is a whopping 7 degrees. Teddy did not like the cold, I took him out twice and he did his business, but made a very quick retreat into the warmth. I am getting pretty good at Solitaire. Although the chances of winning is only 20% I am at 21%. I am not doing so well with the crossword puzzles. I haven't even done one in several days. I found out my Medicaid will no longer pay for my meds. The VA is going to start now, but I make too much money to get the de

another day

It has warmed up a little but more snow later this week. I am able to take Theodore out, and he sure knows how to play me. He will sit in front of me with a 'poor little me' look. He either wants to eat or go outside. His auntie Kim got back from vacation Friday and Teddy was really glad to see her. He first saw her when I was taking him for his morning walk and he just ran to her, little tail wagging. He was so happy.   Whenever we get back from a walk, he will strut down the hallway, an

So much for reconciliation

Well, I tried to reconcile with my brother, but I found he pocketed almost all of my SSDI , he also sold all my belongings and pocketed that too. He makes Mr Scrooge seem like a philanthropist. That to me is just plain sick, like he needed the money. What a worthless "family" I have. At least I have Teddy, he has more character than anyone else in my family. Oh well, I cannot control his actions, I just don't understand how he can look at himself in the mirror. Pity party over, thanks.

A tad bit warmer

It has finally got warm enough so I can walk Teddy myself. Luckily, he realizes I can't go over icy patches so he will turn around fairly willingly. His auntie Kim will be on vacation this week, so he will miss her. I have an appointment at the VA on Tuesday, so hopefully I can get the cost of my meds under control. I wish they will get my kafo done I am really anxious to start walking. I am really getting sick of this chair.

BUSTED

Teddy has been limping the last 2 days, however yesterday when his Aunt Nora took him for a walk his Aunt Kim noticed he wasn't limping at all and was really quite frisky: BUSTED. That little devil has been faking it for sympathy. I do thing the cold weather has bothered him some and a couple of times he almost fell of the bed. He has me wrapped around his paw, but that is fine with me. Whenever he wants somrthing he just sits down in front of me and stares at me. Depending on the time of day he

A NEW YEAR A NEW OUTLOOK

:happy new yea: :friends: As 2007 comes to an end I need to take advice from the bible and turn everything over to God. I recall after my stroke I thought to myself 'I looked death in the eye and death blinked'. Not many people can say that. My attitude now comes from Rick Nelson: you can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself. Anyway, Teddy is feeling better today. He was sick all day yesterday, and just like most men he tried to look as pitiful as he could :harp: . He ate his food

a foot of 'fluries'

The snow has finally stopped but it is very cold. Down to the single digits yesterday morning. Christmas went OK, we had a good lunch. We had rib-eye steak and chicken. Last year I chose the rib-eye, unfortunately it was very rare. Generally speaking, Texans like steaks well done (almost burnt) so this year I chose the chicken. I got a mug with Teddy's picture which I really like (Teddy was unimpressed). I also got a wireless computer keyboard and mouse which is pretty cool. Teddy got some dogg

8 inches of 'flurries'

Our dear weatherman did it again. Last night they thought the snowstorm would miss us. That is what you get for thinking when you aren't used to it. One poor guy got stuck in the snow at lunchtime, after a lot of pushing he finally got out. The snow is finally letting up a little. Teddy actually had a good time playing in the snow when is Aunt Nora took him outside this morning. He even got some nice treats for Christmas. I got a nice mug with Teddy's picture on it. Otherwise, my dear fam

Keeping occupied

I continue to progress with Solitaire and I am getting pretty good at it. Unfortunately, as I get better the games get harder. I downloaded a good site that has a wide variety of options and different games. I really haven't spent much time doing crosswords though. I am reading a book about the consultant to 'Ghost Whisperer', she is a very fascinating person and so far (I've only read 36 pages). I am hoping to find out more about ghosts. Although I have never seen one, occasionally, I think the

Another cold and snowy day

Once again we got da snow :Tantrum: I have not been able to take Teddy out since yesterday. I have had to depend on his Aunties. I got very ill on Sunday :puke: Luckily it only lasted a day, it only messed up my sleeping schedule . I did get a lot of practice with solitaire (I can even spell it correctly now). I actually won a couple of games :Jammin: It has also been a tad chilly :cold: I have also spent a lot of time on my computer trying to clesn it up and running better. :Typin

new thing to do

I have been doing something the last few days I really never enjoyed doing before. I am playing solitaire and crossword puzzles on the computer. :Typing: I really missed out on the computer and video game thing. It really started while I was stationed in England. I recall returning to the US in 1982 and saw several people wearing t-shirts with some yellow thing on it with the word 'Pacman' I had never heard of it. They didn't have that in the UK. I didn't learn about it until later, and couldn'

Teddy doing better

:Clap-Hands: Teddy has shown a lot of improvement over the last day. If I mix his pain pill in with his food he is able to walk about 20 minutes later. He still limps a little but not nearly as bad as before. He is also being very cooperative on not making his walk too long. Even though he may want to extend his walk he is very good about coming back inside when I want him to. Also, we had a bit of excitement at lunch yesterday. The same woman I was having trouble with about walking Teddy,

Teddy has to go to the Vet

Poor Teddy's limping got so bad he had to go to the Vet last night. We took him to a Vet emergency room. I had seen the Vet on Animal Planet several years ago. It's emergency room has been featured on the network, so I knew Teddy was in the best of hands. The Vet did not think his paw was broken, they gave him some pain pills and ordered bed rest for him. I took him out this morning and he insisted on going for a usual long walk. That was not a good idea, he barley made it back to the room. I fe

Still cold, but getting better

The weather is finally going to warm up over the next couple of days. Maybe even into the 60's on Tuesday. Too bad I already put my speedo away for the winter. :yikes: Teddy wasn't feeling well this morning. He had a hard time getting out of bed. After his walk Kim gave him his treat and then I gave him his breakfast, with a baby aspirin in it and he felt much better before lunch. Last week we had some baby carrots for lunch. I remembered how some had suggested they may help Teddy lose wei

No paw damage

Fortunately, Teddy had no permanent damage to his paw. I gave him some baby aspirin, and he seems to be acting like nothing is wrong. Also, the medicine for his arthritis seems to have helped. His hip swelling is down and he has no trouble getting on or off the bed. I did have to get some winter accessories since I am now walking Teddy. He is kind because when it's cold he wants to get back inside as soon as I do. There is still a little ice on the sidewalks, but most of it doesn't affect my

FUBAR

Today was my appointment at the VA. Last night the local weather guessers took snow out of the forecast, they said maybe a few flurries before dawn at most. WRONG. We had about 3 inches of snow when I woke up. :Argh: My bus picked me up at about 7:30. With one stop to pick up another person I did not get to the VA until 9:00. The traffic was FUBAR to put it mildly. It was more like a parking lot. Of course my appointment was at 830 so my Dr said "no way sucker", so I had to reschedule it for Ja
