One more try

As many of you know I am having serious trouble with my parents. Actually the root of the problem is my brother and his down right narcissism. I have tried all I could think of, but nothing has worked. To my parents; as the British some times like to say they think the sun shines out of his butt. He is the golden boy to the whole family and they just cannot accept he is an arrogant self absorbed jerk. My niece sent me an e-mail showing pictures of her two children. I got one from her yesterday a

Devil Dawg

I took Teddy for his pre-lunch walk today. Everything was fine until I noticed a fairly large black and tan long haired dog roaming about. Sure enough he approached Teddy, not once but twice. At first it was just the normal smelling, but I noticed Teddy's ears very pointed and looking like devil horns. He then became a little aggressive, and soon the big dog ran off. The "Devil Dawg" cowered a dog more than twice his size. Grrrrrrrr. Daddy was so proud.

Autumn is here at last

:Clap-Hands: I have always enjoyed Autumn, for several reasons. Mainly, it meant returning to college. I always loved that because I would spend much of the Summer working at a cotton gin. We would work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was a very long day and would be very hard work. When I finally was liberated and heading back to college that would mean freedom again. Soon we would have the cold fronts move in with thunderstorms and cooler weather. I even took some time going to classes. :Typ

Is a puzzlement?

Very often, when I find something I don't understand. I have a tendency to dwell on it, at least in the back of my mind until I can find a logical solution. I recall hearing about roads of Ancient Rome and how good they were. However, when I was at Pompeii there were ancient roads in their natural state, and they were incredibly bumpy, just a bunch of different rocks put together. It would definitely been very difficult, not to stay uncomfortable to travel over. I pondered that problem for a ver

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEDDY BABY

Today Teddy turned nine years old. It is really hard to believe, he will always be that tiny puppy that could fit in a computer paper box. He had a great day, everyone wished him a happy birthday (of course I did mention to a lot of people telling them it was his birthday). His Aunt Kim and Aunt Nora gave him a lot of special treats. After lunch we went on our regular walk. Teddy waited patiently by the dining room door waiting for his Aunties. Finally they came out and he really pigged out. I

The VA again

:Clap-Hands: I made another trip to the VA this one actually went great. My bus was on time I got right to my appointment on time and was very quickly seen by the dr's. They had me walk a little in the parallel bars, then checked my leg for tone and spastsity, then concluded I need a new kafo. I really don't remember what all they wanted to enclude in my new kafo, but I go back on Oct 15 for a fitting. Then however long it takes to make the new one. FINALLY! My bus back here was even early, a

Just Thinking

For the last several weeks and even months really, I have been asking myself how I feel about my stroke and the experiences I have had since. Really the one thing that keeps coming into my thoughts is an old joke I once heard. Except for that, Mrs Lincoln. How did you enjoy the play.

Teddy and the big dog

I took Teddy out for his normal mid-afternoon walk. He was ready to go (as always). Just after we got on the sidewalk in front of the building a woman walking her retriever sort of snuck up behind me, Teddy saw the dog before I did and went charging after the dog, barking and growling. :fighter: Since I was caught off guard I was not ready and Teddy almost pulled me off the curb. :yikes: I manged to grab hold of the leash just in time, and managed to get the Little Terrorist under control :Doh

Another new project

I am always starting new projects in order to stimulate the ole noggin' (and hopefully help my drain bamage from my stroke). My latest project involves Google Earth. Those unfamiliar with Google Earth, it is a free download that offers satellite imagery of anywhere on the globe. All you need to do is type in any address in the US or Canada and it will take you directly to that address. I am currently located everywhere I have lived. When I am finished, I will be able to take a simulated trip to

Never PO an intel anylist

As an old intel analyst, I am constantly gathering intel on everything, especially other people. Actually it is very easy, always listen and watch. You will be amazed what other people say or do without even realizing it. Especially if you know a few things to look for. For example watch out for people who are far too friendly, or talkative when you first meet them. Another more common, you see it very often on TV. When someone is really crying and carrying on, except there are no tears. That is

Going back to the VA

:Clap-Hands: I finally got a letter from the VA, I have an appointment on Sept 21 at Ortho. Last time I was there I was told I would get an evaluation to see what the best kafo would work for me. Maybe I will get a robocop type kafo, half man half machine :robot: Sorta like "Domo Origato Mr Roboto" :makmiday: domo? The wx has been pretty cool last couple of days. It was down right cold and rainy yesterday. Teddy still went out as usual. One of the ladies here offered to buy Teddy a coat, but

Fall is in the air

:Clap-Hands: Autumn is getting close. There has been a coolness in the air the last few days. We even had a low in the upper 40's this morning, and we are expecting a high maybe in the lower 60's with rain by Monday. There are also a few leaves changing color. It can also snow in September, a few years ago we had a bad storm that was made worse because all of the leaves on the trees made the snow too heavy and many trees just broke. I am looking a little towards the first freeze, mainly becau

Saudi Arabia

I was in Saudi Arabia from Nov 1990 to April 1991. Fortunately, it was winter so the temperature was relatively cool. It even rained a little once. The Saudi people are very friendly, but do have unusual customs. They have a special police force to enforce Muslim rules, we called them "The God Squad". It was alright for 2 men to walk together hand and hand, but a man and woman were forbidden to. There was an amusement park in the city, but one day only mothers and daughters could go together,

Back to the VA

I had my appointment at the VA today. Fortunately, I told the bus company to make it a 2 hour appointment instead of the usual 1 hour, and I ended up needing every minute. First, the bus was 30 minutes late, (Roll up, roll up, roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour) but I got to the VA just in time. On the way a woman tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I had a dog. :Ask: I think she said she worked here, but she knew Teddy. :Hummm: That dog knows everyone,I think he should run for Ma

Walking Teddy

Walking Teddy can be an interesting adventure everyday. Actually, I think he can tell time. I first walk him when I get up. Sometimes, I wake up early, about 4:00am, when I do I have a cup of coffee, then wait for sunrise. Sometimes, I sleep later, maybe 7:00-7:30, then, I have to jump out of bed and take him right out. He usually takes either a short walk, or a long one, you never know with him. He usually waits by the door for snack time at 10:00. Then between 10:00-11:00 I take him out again

Random thoughts and ramblings

preluki is the name of a bomber base and a town in the Ukraine. Teddy is a Libra. My first ancestor born in th US was born in NY in 1745 and fought in the Revolutionary War with Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, and was wounded at Ft Ticonderoga, my uncle was a Ranger in WWII and climbed Point du Hoc during D-day, he was later wounded at the Battle of The Bulge. My father once saw Pretty Boy Floyd when he was a child. Another uncle ran a still in the hills of Arkansas during the Depressio

To VA or not to VA

Well, today was the day of my appointment with the orthatist. I had everything planned out. I was told to bring my KAFO, but it was easier to put it on than carry it. Teddy had not yet see me go through the process of putting it on. I actually did pretty good, especially since I hadn't put it on since last April. Once I got it on Teddy was very upset. He is already unhappy I am in a wheelchair, and this made it worse. I took him out for a walk before I left, but he was very concerned about me. H

visit to the VA and excorcisms

:happydance: I have my appointment with the Orthotist tomorrow (the one I didn't show up to on May 10th, that they didn't tell me I wasn't there while I was there :Argh: ). Well this time I will make sure I get credit for attendance). I really don't know what the next step will be, but I hope it gets the process going for my new kafo. :yadayada: I saw a pretty good movie last week, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" after I saw it I did more research since it was based on a true story. I found out

Doug of Arabia Part I

One Saturday afternoon back in November 1990 I received a phone call from my First Sgt. Now, First Sgt's rarely call someone at home, much less on a Saturday. At first I was a bit nervous (like seeing a police car following you), but it turned out he was requesting my presence in Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield. I was just told I was going to Saudi Arabia, everything else was hush-hush. I was to leave the following Sunday, along with another captain. I was given his contact number and a list of a

Post haircut boost

:Clap-Hands: I have gotten a lot of good reviews from my new "makeover', which is a nice boost. However, as usual Teddy is the center of attention, which is fine with me. He has me wrapped around his little paw. I do whatever he wants. Often he will just sit in front of me and give me his look. I know it is time to take him out. I take him out at least 3 times a day. One of the residents was petting him today. He was being very gentle, but Teddy let out quite a yelp when he was petting him on

Finally cut my hair

Well I finally did it. :Clap-Hands: . My 60's flashback ended today when I got my haircut. I thought about becoming a skinhead, but I really don't care too much for safety pins. :yikes: One thing about having short hair again is is much more difficult to hide when you don't shave. Also, I can be thankful I didn't grow a mullet. Country line dancing just isn't my thing. Afterwards we went out to dinner at Country Buffet and I had a old fashioned Texas style dinner: chicken fried steak (with grav

Weather or not

I really enjoy watching weather, and I have experienced all kind of weather. Hurricane Beulah in 1967, several funnel clouds, a tornado, two waterspouts (in one day), too many thunderstorms to count, a fair amount of blizzards, and heavy snowfall (24 inches at one time is the record), thundersnow, two very small earthquakes, several hail storms and ice storms. The hurricane was very interesting. We were nowhere near the eyewall, but the winds were strong enough it would bend the sliding glass do

Anne visits me and Teddy

:friends: My friend Anne (she is the one that bought me the Egyptian beads while in Paris) came by to see me and Teddy today. She actually has as many problems as I do, but she has a heck of a lot more money. Her husband of 26 years discovered about a year ago that he was a sex addict, after a lot of counseling they decided to get a divorce. Now she found out her college age son got his friend pregnant. She isn't his miss right, more like a miss right now. They are not planning on getting marrie

coffee mocha and explosions

A friend of mine suggested I mix some instant coffee with some hot cocoa mix for a coffee mocha. Actually it tastes great, and a lot cheaper than Starbucks. However, the last two times I bought some coffee and cocoa mix I had a bit of a problem. I am not sure if it was the hot weather, but when I opened the vacume pack seal, there was a minor explosion. It was not a big deal, but it scattered quite a bit of coffee and the cocoa mix everywhere. Big mess. I bought some more yesterday, so to be on

Teddies Aunt Kim returns

:Clap-Hands: Teddy was very happy today because his Aunt Kim returned from vacation this morning. He was very excited, and sure enough she brought him some sausage. The little pig gulped it down, barely swallowing. He is one happy dog. Well, I sent an E-mail to my parental units saying leave me alone. I was firm, but respectful. No reaction from them yet. We are about ready for another round of T-storms, doesn't look too serious, but Teddy is already hiding under my desk. On the way to Teddy
