Know Thyself

Just before I left the nursing home in Sept 2005, my OT told me she thought I had a Type A personality. I really didn't think that was true, so as soon as I got here, and got my computer up and running I did some research and found a Personality Test, based on theories of Carl Jung. After I took the test I was really surprised. I have a rather rare personality type, Rational Mastermind, or better known as INTJ. This really surprised me, especially the ominous sounding 'Mastermind", sounds very

Another day in paradise

We finally had a bit of a break in the thunderstorms, and Teddy is definitely relieved. I actually enjoy watching thunderstorms. I recall one time when I was stationed at McDill AFB in Florida I saw a funnel cloud form over the barracks I lived in. I ran and got my camera and started taking pictures. Unfortunately, there was this guy in the barracks right across from me and he thought I was some pervert taking photos of him. :noway: Teddy injured his left front paw, between 2 of his toes. I th

Not a good day

Today has not been one of my better. A lot of minor things, and a few major things had me in a bad mood. Then if that weren't enough, this afternoon, a friend of mine called to say her college age son got his girlfriend pregnant. When I am upset, Teddy also gets upset. Then if that were not enough we had thunderstorms this evening which upset Teddy even more. He went charging at the door barking at thunder a few times and I almost jumped out of my skin. All I need now is a tornado to come throug

TEDDY THE GUARDIAN

Hello all, It seems almost all my entries are about Teddy, but quite frankly Teddy is really the one thing I can discuss without getting too negative. Anyway, Teddy is very very protective of me whenever someone comes and knocks on the door he usually gets very upset, especially if I am in bed. However, during the daytime sometimes reacts differently. Sometimes he gets (or at least likes to pretend he is) vicious. And sometimes he is wagging his little tail. I think he does that because he can

Teddy and another cat

Teddy is doing great as usual. He is "king of the world", he loves to prance around and greet all of his admirers (if he is in the mood) Yesterday I took him out for his afternoon walk. When we got back in there was a woman I did not know at the front desk and she wanted to pet Teddy. For some reason Teddy decided to grant her her wish. Then, out of nowhere another woman appeared and dropped the first woman's cat on the floor right in front of Teddy and all heck broke loose. I was trying

Red lines black lines

Transition from military life to civilian life can be very difficult, especially if you go 'cold turkey' i.e. you don't have a military base nearby to get your military life fix. Retirees from the military have one of the shortest lifespans post military. I can attest to that :bop: . However I think I found the answer, life out of the military is a lot like running a business. You have black lines and red lines. And the objective of the game is to eliminate as many of the red lines as you can. :

reality, what a concept

:im stupid: I have not been able to blog for several days :Argh: but Bob gave me some advice I did not realize. I could not access my blog, or anyone else's for that matter. It seems I was using IE7, and that was kicking me off the site everytime I tried to access a blog. Bob suggested I use Firefox and :happydance: it worked. Seek and ye shall find. Anyway, Teddy is doing great, one of the residents gave him 2 rib bones (not pork chops) this time, and he went to town We did finally ge

Back to normal

After yesterday's wild trip, Iwas ready to take it easy. But then there is Teddy. I took him out early, and when the Activities Director showed up Teddy jumped in the car and was ready to go. He did his business and was ready to meet and greet his adoring public. He played a bit aloof, but looked for tidbits on the floor. He found a couple of something, who knows what. Later his good friend Kim brought him 2 pork chops. He knew they were in my pocket and could not wait. I warmed it up for him

I get to go to the VA

Today I had to go to the VA. Just to get a new Dr. My appointment was at 2:30pm, so I had to take the local Access-A-Ride :Argh: They are not known for thier effencancy. I was scheduled to be picked up between 1:15 and 1:45 (or there abouts) :yadayada: They actually showed up on time. I got to the VA at a little after 2:00pm. I usually go to rehab, wher I know the routine, but I had to go to a different clinic. Talk about Ketstone Cops, it was a mess. I was beginning to think I showed up at the

Teddy finally did it

I took Teddy out this morning and he was his usual self, showing off. Everything went well until we headed back inside. We have a cat that stays at this assissted kiving. He stays in the snack room. It happens that there is a window to that room and Teddy saw that cat and went balistic. He was barking and growling and I had to literally had to pull him away from the window. I pulled him halfway down the hallway to where there is a slight incline. He suddenly turned around back toward the cat and

Teddy's day

Teddy and I had a good day. Teddy was so happy every time I took him outside. the minute I put on his leash and opened the door he was off. I'm not sure if he was in anxious to see people or go outside to pee. He just rushed from place to place. He saw a rabbit and almost pulled me out of my chair. Actually, I think he just enjoyes them running away from him. I guess he feels like the great hunter. I had a vauge dream a few days ago that he actually caught one. I don't rembember what he did once

taking back my birthday

Yesterday was my 3 year mark since my stroke and my 53rd birthday. Last year I just wanted to be left alone. However, this year I decided to take my birthday back. Actually, it is more of an anniversary of my rebirth. I have learned so much, and seem to be able to be more focused on what is going on around me. I didn't have a party of any kind. Just my good friend Anne, and Teddy of course. I would rather have one close friend with me than a roomful of people who really only care for themselve

Teddy 2

We got home shortly after 6:00pm since it was mid-november, it was already dark. I brought Teddy inside and he was fascinated by the TV. I thought I had every planned out, however, I had to throw all my plans out because he was terrified by being be left alone. I had planned to have him sleep in a box by my bed, but no way. He was literally screaming, so I put him in the bed with me. That seemed to satisfy him some. He made it clear he didn't like being left alone. Even if I went into the bathro

Me and my Teddy

I think I propably should talk about my friend Teddy, as most of you know he is my Rat Terrier, and my best friend. In 1998 friends convinced me I should get a pet. I lived in a rather small townhome, with no back yard so my choices were limited. I wanted a dog, but I really didn't care too much for small dogs because to me they seemed so nervous and yappy. I decided to get a cat, I went down to the animal shelter, but I had reservations about a cat. A week later I saw a program on TV about a fo

And now for something completly different

Ever since my stroke (as all are well aware) it seems so much has changed in me personally. I used to watch The Food Network, most of the time. I have not watched it since,I would much rather watch Court TV and Cops is my favorite. I especially like it when someone is tazed, one minute they are acting like an a-hole, the next it's "yes, sir"' "no, sir" It is getting to the point it is almost like I Love lucy, or Star Trek, I can tell if I had already seen that episode within a few minutes. small victory for the left hand

Back in 1981 I visitet Paris and the Louvre. While at the gift shop I noticed a jar full of beads from Ancient Egypt. I have always been interested in Ancient Egypt, but for some reason I did not buy one, to my regret. Then last month a friend of mine was taking a trip to Paris and said she would get me a couple of beads. Sure enough she returned with 2 scarab beads :Clap-Hands: I bought a chain to wear it, but had all kinds of promblems fastening the chain with the very tiny locks. I am not the

Friday the 13th

It is the superstitious Friday the 13th, Iv'e never felt ot was unlucky, unless you were a black cat. Not a good day for thoes dudes. I take a full moon more seriously, I think there is something to that. Actually Friday June 13, 1980 was a very memorial day for me. I was in the Air Force and that was the day I left for a 2 year tour of duty in England. That was a very eye-opening experience for me. I still rememember the first time I went to London. I was just a country boy from South Texas, an

Finally got my chair

:Clap-Hands: Well after almost 2 months I finally got my chair back. Now I have to get used to this one again. I guess if a Munchnin ever shows up here they will have a chair waiting for them. Teddy had mercy on me and only went for a very short walk this morning. There is always the afternoon walk though. It semms I walk him now more than I did before my stroke. Just being with him makes me feel better. Next on my list is an appointment with my Orthatist. Who knows how long that will take!
