Other people mean well but, cannot really be counted on. A friend sent me a live, decorated Xmas tree....too big for my small home (and live plants don't do well in vehicles). It had to be planted but, I have no tools to use.
I asked my retired landlord to help me. He showed up without a shovel, said he would be back later, it started raining, and I have not seen him since (3 days).

Carol walked 45 feet today and is getting up, down, and pivoting. A big improvement! She will be moving to another rehab tomorrow and I will post that information when I get it.
I mentioned this once before...while I was trapped (a prisoner) in hospitals, a "friend" who was trying to keep me from being robbed - robbed me. After returning (dumping) some of my stuff he took, I am missing hundreds of dollars of stuff he didn't return. He did not rob me intentionally but, he did it none-the-less. The irony is that he was "protecting" me from thieves!

Just talked with her and she is doing very well. She has been practicing getting up and sitting down, transferring, and standing in therapy today and doing well at it. She will be transferring to the next place soon...I will keep you posted. She says "hello".

Carol is in fine spirits ... she walked 25 feet with a hemi-walker today and is getting better at standing and transferring. She will probably be transferring to another rehab next week. She is getting excited about shopping for gadgets to make life easier. She hopes to be back on chat soon but, has a lot of catching up to do first. She wishes everyone Happy Thanksgiving.
Just spoke with her and she sounded more hopeful, again. She is able to walk a few steps at a time with help and is trying to get stronger. She hopes to use their computers on Monday to read her email and maybe get on chat. They keep her busy with therapy which tires her so, we will see. Her review for discharge is sometime in the next week and she will most likely be transferred to another rehab for more therapy to get her ready to go home. Cross your fingers and say your prayers.
I am doing fine, Gracie is doing fine, and my friends are doing fine....a lot to be thankful for. My newest "friends" are lovely people and I have no serious complaints....for now, life is good. It will be a "Happy Thanksgiving" in spite of what I miss...I have so much.
As for Carol....I talk to her constantly. She will do fine if she can keep depression away. She is making progress and is getting very good care. She has good friends and will be back before she or we know it. She say
I have made good friends on Strokenet and one of them put me in contact with some good people here, where I live. I have been able to let my driver go (shame it's just before the holidays but....) because I now have the help I need at a cost I can afford. My driver was greedy and even though already overpaid, wanted more money while being unreliable. I am grateful for Strokenet, for my friend, and for my new friends that I have just met. It will be a Happy Thanksgiving for me.
Halloween is not followed by Christmas and everything is not food, gifts, and merriment. There is a day called Thanksgiving when we should all show our gratefulness for what we have. We should do that everyday but, let us not forget that one day a year is not just about the food but, our appreciation of it and all else in our lives.....our families, fortune, friends, freedom, and that our needs are met.
Carol sounds good and seems encouraged. She is in good care and has learned some new tricks. She says "hello" to all and thanks you for your prayers. She looks forward to joining in the chats again...she misses you as much as we miss her. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer.

Carol is being moved to Barrington Terrace (a rehab center) on Friday. I will provide details when I have confirmed them. She says hi to all and thanks for the prayers. Yvonne...your phone call surprised and pleased her. Asha she loves to hear from you.
My problem with the state and food stamp renewal is over...I am renewed for another year. Now, I hope my medicaid paying my medicare premium goes as well. My problem with medicare part D has been resolved, too. I can keep using my pharmacy but, they won't be preferred until "next year" (whatever they mean by that...2015?)
Meanwhile, my driver has been problematic and this morning when I called her to suggest a late start tomorrow due to cold weather, she wanted MORE money! She is alrea
A bad day. Poor Carol has been told they won't let her go home to live because she lives alone; that she has to go to a nursing home. Her assessment is tomorrow. She is in tears, of course. Don't say...it's best for her; it's devastating (I know). They pulled that same nonsense on me and I'm doing fine just like I told them I would. If you are going to say prayers, say them extra loud that she be allowed to go home.
I just spoke to her and she says "Hi" to everyone. She is anxious to get home (aren't we all when we're in hospital), is tussling with the therapists (like we all do), is fighting off a couple infections she acquired and was glad to hear a friendly voice. They are keeping her busy with therapy (which helps fight off boredom).
She is looking forward to joining us on chat again.

Gracie jumped from the sink INTO the cupboard above opening the door in midair to enter it!
My cupboards are the same height as cabinets in houses, however, the latch on this one is broken so, it closes but, not locks. It was closed when she jumped and is filled with dishes.
