How to waste time and money

:hot: Friday, I received a phone call informing me it was time to renew my food stamps. I get food stamps (a whopping $15 a month) because I get medicaid to pay my medicare premium. Okay.....I went to the website our state provides for managing food stamp and medicaid programs and learned that my medicaid was up for renewal, too. I filled out the renewal forms, electronically signed them, and submitted them - done! No.....not done. Now, I'm told I have to call their number for an in-pers

Just another day

Monday, Gracie had an adoption party (it had been 2 years since she became a family member).   This week has been cooler, finally, and I did some yard cleanup (looks a bit better). I have more to do, of course.   The landlord and his wife came home from their trip and he is in the hospital - convenient that she is a nurse there. It is also good that they made it home before he was hospitalized - it would be awful to be stuck far away from home.   Gracie has been a snuggle bug at night

Walmart

I don't know if he wanted to be a greeter or shop but, this morning the news carried the story of the gator that visited a Walmart in the Orlando area. Poor gator...they locked him out. Here is the video clip for those who didn't see it: http://www.clickorlando.com/news/alligator-near-walmart-forces-employees-to-lock-doors/-/1637132/22531242/-/cl2pyy/-/index.html Just another reason to be careful at Walmart! lol

Gracie

Okay....lock me up , if you want but, I swear this is true!   Saturday, I asked Gracie "why won't you finish your lunch?" - like I expected an answer! lol   I swear she said in understandable people english: "I don't want to!"   I'm being sassed by my cat!! in my own language!! She then sauntered to the door and said "out".   I wish I could claim insanity but, I may be crazy but, I'm not insane - yet.   She has also taken to standing upon the narrow railing and banging on the do

:happydance: Yesterday morning I sold the car! ,A great way to start/end the week! Everyone was happy, I got my asking price (lower than it was worth) and I watched it drive away with a tear in my eye. I will miss seeing her outside my window - I really liked that car.   Now, I have the money to prepay my funeral arrangements so that my well meaning friends can't screw that up unless they stand upwind. lol It will be "Happy Birthday" to me!   Now, I can concentrate fully on the other th

Ready for Halloween! ha-ha

To go shopping this morning, I dressed warm.....it was a cool 58. I donned my Halloween spooks and pumpkins sweatshirt, my AFO which makes me Frankenstein walk, and a glove to keep my hand warm (needed even before stroke) but,.............the spastic fingers of my hand would not go into the glove's fingers so, I had floppy fingers on my glove like Howie Mandel's rubber glove hat. Quite a sight! :lolu: I think I will have to stick to a mitten from now on.

No bills in the mail yesterday!

:goodjob: For one day my mail didn't consist of bills, donation requests, and catalogs! I got a notice from good old Publisher's Clearing House that my entry form is on the way! :lolu: AND it was delivered with a laugh and a silly comment by my mail girl! It was nice hearing "we want to give you something" instead of "give us your money" even if my cat has a better chance of winning than I do!

Getting to dread the mail

This is more a moan than a complaint. Will the darn bills ever stop coming! (moan, moan)   It has been over 8 months since my escape from the hospitals/rehabs/doctors/therapists and today I received another first billing! This doc I haven't seen since December!   What takes them so long (?)....the last first billing was marked "final bill"! I know the gov is slow but, still - this is ridiculous!! Every time I think "ah, now I have them all", another one comes in the mail. The worst

Speaking of government

I got tax bills from the county today for the motorhome and car because they are uninsured, unregistered, and unused!!! Plus they want me to call them because they don't know what to charge me!! UNBELIEVABLE!! Guess what I think!

Gracie makes me proud!

Really...........I don't make this stuff up!   Gracie took a moment at lunchtime to look up punctuation on wiki. I guess she wants be sure to write her messages correctly. Mind you, I do not have wiki in my bookmarks, apps, or history (until now) so, she had to find it.   I'm proud to have a cat that cares about her writing more than most people do. lol

One-handed Computering

:geek: For all of those (like me) who have only one useful hand to use.....   If you are a Windows user (I don't know if Mac or Linux have this), There is a tool buried in accessories on W7 or hidden in the right screen search on W8 called "snipping tool". To make a screen print normally you would have to stretch your fingers from the fn key to PrtSc key - HA! No Way! With the snipping tool, you simply click it on, select new, the area size, and drag an + around the area using the mouse o

OK! I'm back!

:thumbsu: Sorry if I scared any of you but, my computer died. :fpc: Yesterday, the new one arrived (thanks to a very dear friend). I was going out of my mind with boredom and isolation without my electronic friend. I now have the fun of learning a new system (Windows 8) and a new Google (they changed, too) plus all of the setup, download, mail that piled up, and backing everything up. :lolu: Gracie is having fun changing the window and I'm trying to get used to a strange keyboard. :geek:

Thanks

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories about your cats. I have enjoyed them and I hope others did as much as I did.   Yes, little Gracie is quite a character. When I first got her, she was a shy, scared little cat....ready to run at first chance. She had been badly abused and rescued by a kind girl who is rescuing homeless and abused cats. Her 'adopt me' photo was a really bad one from a phone camera and no one wanted this "ugly" cat. Shame on them - she is a beautiful soft dilute calic

Gracie

I believe I have the only cat who is afraid of the dark. Gracie wants in the cupboards but, after sticking her nose in, rushes back out....they are very dark. She is always in by sundown and stays tight to me all night. Any cubbyhole she goes into must have light shining into it - I tease her about wanting a flashlight. She does not appear to have poor eyesight just a fear of darkness. I have noticed this since I adopted her almost 2 years ago. Makes one wonder - especially since she is ot

Marching forward!

:jig: I went outside this morning and walked all over the yard doing my chores (including pruning the bushes around the sat. dish again) WITHOUT MY AFO!! No Problems! When I came back inside, I didn't have to retrain my ankle to not crumble under and could just keep on walking (the AFO weakens the ankle). My foot doesn't hurt and I feel great! Gracie accompanied me meowing all the way....talk about encouragement! What a great start to the week! :thumbsu:

A peaceful Sunday

The foul ups of the week are fixed and everything is in order, again. No one is mowing the grass or buzzing the house in a crop duster. I don't have any unwanted guests and Gracie is happy and doing cat stuff outside. Peace and quiet and sunshine. A lovely way to end one week and begin another.

Adventures in Gracieland....

Not one of her better days. First, she goes crashing across the table and knocks over my full glass of water. I told her she needed to be more careful and she looked at me like "well, what was a glass doing on the table? You knew I would go that way." The worst part was that everything got soaked including my pill box. My pills and box are drying out in the sun on the bed. I know at least 2 dissolved. The other bad thing was that the pump has quit again and there went some of the little b

A Big Step Forward!

Since my strokes, I have not been able to walk in shoes with soles without having to wear the AFO and do the "Frankenstein walk" and I would stick to the floor in the sneakers. I walk around the house in soleless or soft sole slippers all the time with no trouble.   This morning, I tried my soled moccasins one more time and WaLa!!! I can walk in them! (and just in time for winter). I have made it to the stage where my ankle/foot/leg is not turning under in soled shoes! Maybe before lo

Advice...no matter how well meant

The advice I was given to get a gun and shoot a snake (thin long thing) inside the house was about the stupidest advice I have ever heard! What's more....it came from our illustrious police force.   #1...you don't just let anyone have a gun and a cripple is low on the list of who should have one.   #2...shooting any weapon in the house is a big No-No at any time. Shooting one in a motorhome with the 2 huge 50 gal. tanks of gas and propane tanks and lines is even more a NO-NO. Not to menti

Final chapter, I hope

I haven't seen Snake since the catchers were here. Hooray! The weirdest thing in all this was the advice I was given. Both the cops and catchers told me to get a gun and shoot the snake! IN THE HOUSE ..........YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING !! The other suggestion was an old remedy......mothballs. Can you imagine living with that stink! I have lived in trailers, vans, and RVs for over 30 years and this is the first snake that came inside. I remedied the access I may have inadvertently prov

Next Day Chapter

Good morning all!   Snake slept peacefully alone under the couch, Gracie and I slept peacefully together in our bed at the other end of the house. All had a good night's rest and now the hunt begins again. Apparently, Gracie was on guard all night because she slept against me on the bed edge and immediately checked the couch before she went out. Since she can smell it, it must be under the left end of the couch.   I think I have figured out how it got in so, I will go out and move the b

Peaceful Sunday in the Boonies :)

Okay.....so Sunday in the boonies isn't so peaceful.   This afternoon, Gracie was staring at the far end of the couch so, I watched to see what had her attention. A snake zoomed out and did a quick u-turn back under! Gracie was on the hunt!   My landlord was outside cutting grass so, I tried calling him for help....he couldn't hear his phone. I called 911 and got into a "do you remember me" conversation with the dispatcher. Finally, she sent help....a deputy with thick glasses.   H

Frustration!

:notfair: GD old body! A few feet might as well be a few miles! Try any harder and I'd be sprawled on the floor! splat!   The fox came back this afternoon and Gracie was inside this time. By the time I could get the camera, he was into the trees. We have a thin row of trees behind the property. Then a doe and two fawns came in the yard....again no camera! The fox poked out again - no camera! I would have great shots out my bedroom rear window if I could get there in time with the came

Good News!

I just spoke with my driver, Faye, and apparently she has iron deficiency and was not taking her pills. She says she has learned her lesson and is taking her pills like a good girl, now. There should be no problems with her driving. That is a big relief! Whew!!
