Update
Around the middle of September we made a dental appointment for Tootie. At the time, the dentist decided to get a thorough cleaning Tootie would need sedation; that was scheduled the first week of October.
Although Tootie just had a physical for school, the surgical center wanted a new physical on their form. I made an appointment with Tootie’s pediatrician and faxed the form to the dentist 10 days prior to the scheduled surgery.
So we show up for the surgery and after waiting a couple of hours, we are told Tootie's the last patient. The surgical center had not reviewed Tootie's physical and didn’t realize Tootie has special needs. In fact, they reviewed it the day after the scheduled surgery. I was also informed Tootie needed to be seen in a hospital setting, not a surgical center. I was told her dentist doesn’t have privileges at the hospital so we need to find one with those privileges.
After many calls from me, the center finally sent Crystal a letter stating because of Tootie’s extensive medical history and current medical condition, Tootie would not be a candidate for dental restoration surgery. I wish I had been informed of this prior to making reservations, cancelling therapies, and traveling to Austin. I feel the dentist’s office and the surgical center were grossly negligent.
In the meantime, we are also taking Tootie to the neurologist because she is now having different seizures. After the last trip to the ER, Crystal requested an EEG. So Tootie, Crystal, my sister-in-law, and I were in Austin last week. Tootie was scheduled for a 5 Day Video EEG. Tootie’s Epileptologist is weaning her off one med and added a new med. We were able to view Tootie's MRI and will go back to Austin next month to get the results of Tootie's SPECT Scan.
So, other than our weekly therapies and school, life is getting back to our normal.
