Giving Thanks

I'm thankful today for the good week we've had. While reading to mom the other day, she said, "Boy, you talk so fast, I don't understand". It was so plain and I was so happy that she expressed exactly how she felt. On Monday she had a visitor in the morning and even though she did ok, it frustrates me that when other people are there she gets anxious and can't speak as well. Then they get the impression that she is "confused". After the visitor left, I ate lunch with her and we went to the nearest city (25 miles) and looked around WalMart a little bit, then she got a haircut. She did so well with transfers in and out of the van and onto the toilet there. After that we went through the drive-thru at Tim Horton's and got a gingerbread donut to split and drinks. Also got a carton of donut holes to take to the nurses. We were gone for 3 hrs. and mom was tired, but she said, "We had a good time".

I know she is getting better because she has begun going to the mirror before we go out of her room and combing her hair and sometimes putting on lipstick! Today the home had Thanksgiving dinner at 11:30 and invited families to come. My husband and I went and the food was excellent. I took a dressy top and sweater for mom to wear. Afterwards, she walked up the hall. She has been doing that every day. I was surprised, but happy, when the therapist approached me yesterday and said she had noticed mom dragging her right leg and having trouble turning and they wanted to pick her up for more PT. Yay!!

So it has been a good week. Last Thanksgiving Day was when mom stroked and was flown to the hospital in the helicopter. She has come a long way and I think, so hae I. I hope you have all had a wonderful day.

Oh WOW, I'm so proud of her and the recovery she is making!! It reminds me of how I was in the five months I remained in the hospital unable to even walk but had to learn how to transfer from WC to front seat of my car!! God is good all the time!!

One year and absolutely fantastic progress. You should be very proud of her and yourselves. You are all doing so well.

It is hard for others to understand how much progress is being made. But, you can see it. I can read what has happened and know that alot of progress has been made.

Keep up the good work.

Ruth
