Ninetendo Wii.......finally

I had been thinking of the Wii for over 3 years. I finally decided that William is ready for me to tackle a new therapy for him.

The hard part for me was getting it attached to the TV. This was difficult because I have direct TV and they have a DVR box that is utilizing the plugs that the wii needs. I called the help desk at direct tv and was told that I just had to unplug the TV and direct TV box and then attach the wii to the TV. That doesn't sound like this is the best way to go. If anybody has any hints please let me know.

I checked on the internet and could not find any information. I used youtube to put the connections together. I love you tube. It has directioins with video to demonstrate almost everything.

Luckily we had a friend over and he helped me get it set up. We practiced with William and was just getting the hang ot it.

We tried with Wm sitting in the recliner. I have since decided that it will be best if William is sitting in the wheelchair. He has more manuverability.

William is excited and willing to play some of the sports games. He enjoyed bowling. He kept making strikes.

I think that when the weather is cold he will be able to stay in and play some games and get some exercise.

Our friend, guessed that maybe they make a connection for the back of the TV that can accomodate both connections. I will stop my bestbuy and ask.

I was able to connect the internet and netflex to the wii.

I actually put off getting the wii because I hate to learn all about new machines like this.

I talked to William about getting rid of the truck. He has not been able to drive it for 4 years and I do not like to drive it. He said that it would be ok ...He is worried about what he will drive when he can. I just told him that we would get something else. The truck is manual and it would not be practical with his left leg. Now, I just have to get it sold.

I am excited about this new job. Let's see how this goes.

I need to set up a schedule for William and the caretaker.

William got up early this morning. I was able to get him showered and shaved and teeth brushed. He is now resting in bed. The caretaker will be able to finish the laundry and make william breakfast.

Ruth I will let you know how the wii works out as we get comfortable with it.

Larry plays bowling too. He can do it better sitting in a straightback chair. It's amazing that you could hook this up. I had to get my son to do it. We are getting a new TV so I hope the cable people can hook it up for us. Our TV is the old tube kind but still had a good picture although sometimes part of the picture was cut off. The Wheel of Fortune is very cute and fun to play.

We got rid of the second car last year. Larry was hoping to drive but the car was just sitting there costing money for inspections, insurance, etc. My son has it now.

Ruth, I looked at the connections on the back of my wii and our dvr box. We also have a dvd player hooked up to the tv. If you have a dvd or vcr player hooked up all you have to do is hook the red, white and yellow wires from the wii into the video in spot on the back of the dvd/vcr player and it will play through it. you just have to to put the tv on the correct "input" . If you press the input button on the tv remote it will give you a list like, comp1,comp2, hdmi stuff like that you will have to pick each one until you get the one where your wii menu comes on. If you don't have a dvd or vcr you should be able to hook it into your sattelite box the same way, just look on the back of it for "video in" hook your wii wires to the coordinating colors, and do the same thing with the input on the tv remote. Hope that helps. I know it sounds like a pain but really it is simple. If you need to you can call me this afternoon and i will try to talk you through it. My number is 864-280-0248. Have a good day at work.

Sounds great to me that William will get to like the different games he can play helping to use his hands!! WOW, I didn't know he loves bowling that's my profession as I owned a Bowling Pro Shop inside the bowling center selling balls, shoes and bags plus drilling the balls for my customers!!

Not sure in his case but a manual shift would be difficult to operate with a weak left leg!! My old Ford Explorer is automatic transmission and I haul my scooter everywhere I go!!

With everyone having boxes of all kinds, I'm surprised that there wasn't a diagram for your situation in the book that came with the Wii. Yes, if the connections are the 3 red/white/gray then any thing that is already hooked up and can accept those will add it to the group. It is like they are all in a circle holding hands.

Hi Ruth, just wanted to let you know that i spoke to someone on the Geek squad about the wii and hooking it to the sattelite box. He said you cannot hook it to the dvr as there is no "input" connection on it but you can hook it into the dvd or vcr. if you don't have one of those hooked to the tv you will have to connect it straight to the tv. hope that helps! have a great day!
