Almost New Year's

I see the last time I posted was Dec. 14th. I guess I think things in my head to post, just don't actually do it. The facility had it's Christmas party Dec. 21st. I went and took mom, though she was not thrilled about it. Every resident got a very nice present, mom's was a sweater. Santa came, we had pizza, cheese and crackers, cookies, egg nog. But it was very loud, they had live music, 2 ladies playing guitars and singing carols. After 1/2 hr. mom was ready to leave.

One night about a week ago, I went there and mom was soaked, socks, shoes, everything. I asked the aide if she had been pottied, she said yes, before dinner. I said, but the thing is she is supposed to be pottied before and after. The aide said, I am so sorry, but we just don't have time. There were only 2 aides on that night for 32 residents, most are hoyers. So the next day I went to the administrator and he said they had just hired 2 aides, they are trying to get more help. So many people have had problems. The one aide's dtr. was killed in a car accident. The daughter had 5 kids, who have lived with the aide, the aide is 62 yrs. old. She is back to work now, but some have been sick. One aide broke her wrist. So I understand the problem, I just don't like it.

Mom has been doing ok, it amazes me sometimes how much she talks. Christmas Day we had bft. at my daughter's, went to the home for about 1/2 hr. then drove 2 hrs. to spend the rest of the day with my brother. My sister-in-law's family was there (she has 10 siblings) and I got to see my 2 nephews, who I uaually get to see twice a year. My brother, as I think I've mentioned, is battling cancer. Has chemo every week, since May 2008. Earl had to work the next day, so we drove home that night.

My daughter is getting married New Year's Eve, so that's where we will be. We have been blasted with snow starting the day after Christmas, about 18 in. so far and still coming down. My birthday is New Year's Day as is my grand-daughter's. I did not even go to see mom yesterday, because of the weather. My husband and I both feel pretty burnt out, didn't even go to church this morning. I feel anxious when I don't see mom. I did call over yesterday and ask them to let her know I wouldn't be there. I'll be going to see her in about an hour. Hopefully she is in a good mood and not been worrying. Happy New Year to all of you. Be safe.

No wonder you haven't posted, honey! Happy Birthday and what a wonderful event, your daughter's wedding. Please do remember to post and maybe some pictures.

It is no wonder you are exhausted and I certainly hope that you plan some down time soon. Mom, the Holidays, your brother, the wedding. I am tired just typing it.

Have a couple of days of wonderful celebration and please do let us know. Debbie
