Just a howdy

Hello

I just wished to blog. I am new at all of this .

My situation is that November 30th last year my 90 year old father in law had a stroke.

It effected his left side. Now 6 months later. My wife and I have made a situation where him and his 92 yr old wife are living in an apartment just below ours.

My dear wife is working and I do not. So I get to be caregiver for most of the week.

I get him up and am for the most part a walking crane. I could mention that I am a recovering alcoholic. Which in my case means that my emotional maturity was self-stunted for a period. Him and I sometimes act like spoiled brats. I get angery

I need some advise on how to work objectively with him and still share the fun .

Hi Stetch,

Welcome to our blog community! I don't really have any advice for how you can work more objectively with your father-in-law, but the fact that you recognize this as a problem that needs to be resolved that you've taken a giant step forward to finding the answer. Blogging---getting your feelings out in the open---will be good for you I'm betting.

Well hey there Richard,

Welcome to blogging! Glad to see you here.

Now as to your other problem you asked about, my suggestion is take it back to the basics. We survivors become aware there is a problem we need to work on, we focus on the problem and constantly remind ourselves how to act. For example, I lost impulse control. After I stroked I became very verbally abusive. I knew it was a problem, so I kept reminding myself about appropriate behavior in social situations. I've also relearned to bite my tongue. I can't report honestly that I've overcome the problem 100%, but I am better then I once was. It is worth a shot.

Good luck and find the humor in every situation!

Pam
