Hello all again,

It's nearly 3:04pm, I took my mom to see my grandma's doctor, and get a few more diapers, bed sheets from the pharmacy near the hospital. The guy at the pharmacy has told us some cruel stories about not caring children for their elders, and some even saying this irritating phrases "my mom's not going to get better anyway, I don't want to buy this, oh you are recommending this airbed just because you want to make good profit, right mr.pharmacist?"...what the heck? people are really mad....crazy....this guy was helping me out with my seperated shoulder, and now he's trying to help us with my grandma's equipment...of course he's selling stuff, but he knows stuff, that's why he's recommending new stuff to his customers, for the better sake of their patients that is...anyway...he was a funny guy..he is...

The doctor said we should try the swallow test, but only with potato puree, or apple puree, and see if grandma can swallow. So it's a trial and error test... =(( but guess what happened, grandma had eaten her first yoghurt via a teaspoon...it was great, it was hard...

Her face looks really alive now, and she kept her head still while we made her sit in her bed, legs lying on the bed...she has her massage every hour to everypart of her body, thanks to the nurse...she's a hard worker lady, the nurse...

Grandma was confused by my questions it seemed, she did an upside down V with her eyebrows and an open hand gesture with her left hand...she meant "how can I know Cagin?, I don't know" I guess...she was really confused today...I told her she was in her own house in Alsancak (name of the district the apartment is at), and she did that "I dunno" gesture again... =( we don't know if she's capable of understanding us...that kills me really sometimes...not knowing...but anyway, she and us, we are giving our best fight...must be strong...

healthy and happy days to all of you out there.

PS: I will try and join the wednesday evening chat, if there's one tonight, I'll look and see.

Kind regards,

Cagin

Hi Cagin, Grandma sounds like she is coming along,  you just have to take it one day at a time.   Yes you have people that are just not nice.  I just pray for them, and know that you have to have a good heart, karma  comes back to you.

It would seem that some real food has given her strength.   Since she is not speaking, it is hard to say what she might mean by the gesture when you told her she was in her own house.   It could have meant several different things, like any of these 4:

1.   is this my house?   I don't know if it is or not.

2.   I'm home, but it's not the same. I can't do nothing, so I'm just stuck in one spot and I can't say that is something to feel good about.    Much like still being in the hospital.

3.   I DON'T KNOW how to answer, no words.

4.   I'm just so tired feeling, nothing seems real to me.

Cagin: I do agree with Sandy - getting some solid food into her, with her swallowing approved, of course, will make a difference. One other suggestion, if I may, stick to one subject only. Do not change subjects during a conversation. If you have to, write down the issue so that you stick to it. Grandmother can not multi-task.

i.e.: you are in your own home. This is your "living" room. Look, there is your kitchen. This is your home Grandma. This is where you live - etc. If you start with area, stick to the area - so and so lives here, we are near such and so, you walk to whatever market.

Prayers and things are really moving along nicely. Good and bad days, that continues throughout stroke recovery. If she is confused, stop and let her rest or nap. Best, Debbie
