Hello all,

Spent nearly 2 hours with grandma today, had my lunch there with mom and my uncle and washed the dishes to help mom. Grandma never had a dishwasher, she never wanted anything from us, although she had the money to buy stuff, she just did not...we call those kind of people not stingy but rather "someone who has seen war times", it was a habit for her to keep all kinds of glass jar in some special cupboard. Anyway, grandma was funny, she laughed a lot to me and to the things I said, mom and my uncle were also shocked at how involved she was with me, how interested she was with me...Then I went to the government office to file in the purchase slips for the airbed, nutrition grandma had and the plastic mold for her right leg with the report from the hospital, the government will make a repayment of 80% in total, but in a month, first the doctors of the government will check if there's any fraud in the documents I've filed in,etc...

Grandma had another cup of yoghurt today but she still can't drink water, therefore we need her to keep the NG pipe in her nose, thats a pain really and she will be relieved if she can get rid of that NG pipe...which goes down to her stomach...nerve cracker...

oh and tried to ask for the turkish yes and no in written form via writing them on a white board but couldnt succeed, she couldnt say which one is which, and she did not want to use her glasses...she did not like them...perhaps she cant remember what they are...oh and by instinct she does not want her left arm tied to the side of the bed...when mom tried to tie her left hand to the side of the bed, she got angry and did not let her arm to my mom...then she did after 10mins, but its a sign that her conciousness is coming back I think. My own opinion is that we shouldnt tie her left arm anyway...mom does not think like that because if grandma tries to get that NG piping out with her left hand...then we are in trouble...she will have pain trying to remove it, and she wont be fed for at least a couple of hours which is ok, but then, calling a another doctor to reinstall a new NG pipe...that would hurt her...and we cant let that happen...I guess that's what mom thinks...anyways,

healthy and happy days to you all out there.

Cheers.

Hi Cagin,

Does Turkey have liquid thickeners like Thick It? We used to put Thick It in water, coffee, tea, juice, everything.

Hi Cagin, Grandma doing well. I know  about  the tubes in the nose, I had one for five days, it is painful, so I understand grandma wanting to pull it out.

Keep blogging

Thanks Heidi and Yvonne, I just talked to www.brucemedical.com and will order a jat for 9.95usd + shipping, thanks =)

I hope my grandma's swallowing ability develops in time!

Healthy and happy days to you all out there, have a lovely weekend.

I was thinking like someone else said, the thick it goes in water and the water is like a 'gel' and they eat it with a spoon, also jello would work that way.   Make it with a little more water and/or at room temperature so it slides down easy.

I don't know how much she understands... would she understand that if she pulls it out, they will have to come and put it back in?   Like you, I know tying hand down = having NO hands, very hard to tolerate.

Hello Sandy, she never tried to get the NG pipe out, and I'm not sure if she'd understand if she'd taken it out...I tend to untie her hand when I'm there, at least she has a break for 1-2 hrs whilst am visiting :)
