Dan enjoyed the actual water therapy but the cold locker room was a issue…. and non approval of course…  but while in the warm water he could RELAX…. he enjoyed it...

I go to the pool as often as I can and do my arm exercises - they're easier in the water. I can do a pretty decent one-armed side stroke for exercise and I also enjoy just floating and not having to worry about supporting my left arm.

Larry had water therapy at the acute rehab facility.  He did not like getting cold going in and out, but the therapy was good for him.  There are others here who will chime in as they have recommended it highly.  The water is at a therapeutic temperature.

Julie is absolutely right. The water temperature is most important for stroke victims. If it is too cold, you will suffer muscle contractions.

Up to your waist, 50% of your body weight is relieved by the bouyancy of the water - just about arm pits - 75%, so you can see how exercise is so much easier in water. Plus, a good therapist will give you great exercises that eventually you can do independently. Bruce's Rehab pool offered monthly membership, at a very low cost, after paid therapy was completed. You had to get in and out yourself or bring your own help.

Out of the pool, into the shower - yes, cool down. Our Rehab always had plenty of towels. I kept Bruce to the shower chairs, that way I could get him to the shower quickest.

But please remember if you have an opposite sex caregiver to be sure the facility has a co-ed or family shower stall. Debbie

I have been doing water therapy for over five years with my husband, William. It is the only thing that he is able to do consistently. I personally take him into the pool five days do the week. We have access to a therapeutic pools at the YMCA. Wm has progressed since we started. I must agree that the cold after you get out of the therapeutic pool is hard. But you can do so much in the water and it is easy. The water is so relaxing. It relaxes the muscles and the soul. Wm is so rejuvenated after the pool.

Truthfully he does not want to do it always. But we go all the time.

We walk back and forth. At the beginning we had to walk in the deeper water. More bouncy and it was easier ...as you progress you walk in shallower water.

We push and pull the arms out for two hundred reps. This has really helped with the range of motion of his weak arm.

He stands on one leg and lifts the other one up . And taps the wall 40 times. Next the other leg.

He does belly to the wall and bottom out . 40 reps. This moves the truck.

We have worked up to 40 reps of each exercise.

Next stand in deep water and put weight on right leg and swing the opposite leg forward and backward. 40 times.

Opposite leg next.

Next stand on the right leg and swing the left leg to the wall and out. 40 reps.

Opposite leg next. These are our wall exercises.

We usually walk again. Our workout lasts 30min.

I pull wm around the pool on his back and he kicks his legs out and in and kicks them also.

Of course the shower is a workout also. Standing and sitting.

But he always feels so good after he is done.

Usually time to sleep on e we get home.
