Finally got Larry on an outing

I told Larry we were going out Saturday as we just can't sit inside with the weather so great. It was near 80, sunny and breezy. I decided to go back to one of our favorite places on Creve Coeur Lake. We use to live in Creve Coeur, MO which is only a 25 min. ride from us. There was a car show but it was too crowded, so I parked in a handicap spot and wheeled Larry in his transport chair. He cannot walk long distances so the chair is always kept in the trunk. There is a paved trail along the lake and that makes it easy to push him. We watched rowing teams, paddle boarders, kayakers and lots of joggers with their dogs. The labs are fun to watch as they love going into the lake. When we went back to our car, another couple had parked in the handicap slot next to us. The lady used one of those walkers where you could also sit. She asked about Larry's chair and gave us each a Peppermint Patty. lol

I think Larry enjoyed the outing. His standard response when you ask "Did you enjoy that?" is always "ya, it was okay", or "it was allright". He never gets too emotional.

We have been busy watching our Cardinals who now will be in the playoffs. The weather is to be great all week. I will have to dream up more stuff to do outside.

Love those laconic answers, Ray's post 2005 was "It was okay." so I never knew if he really enjoyed things or not.  But I did so that was important too. Glad you got out and enjoyed your lakeside walk.

Julie: I am lucky in that Bruce loves getting out of the house. But Larry sometimes needs a little push and that was a perfect day for it. I do wish we had that set up here. Most of our lakes just are get out and sit in the parking lot. But there are several boardwalks on the Sound fairly close by. I am going to have to think about them more. Nothing like fresh air and sunshine! Debbie

It sounds like there was a lot to enjoy.   I think it is great for them if they are tolerating it well, rather than just not wanting to go and being mad about it.   It may be hard to tell how much he enjoyed it, but the stimulation of good things is always a positive input!   Glad you had a lovely day together.
