DRINKING TOO MUCH OR NOT ENOUGH? I QUIT IN 1990 AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAREER OF DOWNING ABSOLUT ON THE ROCKS. SMOKING TOO. WITH ALL THE MEDS I TAKE MIXNG THEM WITH ALCOHOL WOULD SEND ME INTO NEVER NEVER LAND. BESIDES, WITH THE HIGH COST OF BOOZE, THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY MONEY LEFT FOR GAS.

Hi,

I doubt you are alone in that, I know another survivor that has a problem. Myself, I've found since I stroked I have become a cheap date, it doesn't take much for me these days. I'm not on ant meds anymore but I still only need one or two drinks before I walk sideways instead of straight. beer.gif

And Marty, you don't want never, never land, Michael may have to sell soon and you would have to make yet another move back to the lakes area from CA.

Scott, thank God you are under control, you are not alone. No boat comes in here with just passenger aboard. Aren't we blessed??

Well I can admit that pre-stroke I had a drinking problem. I would still have one post stroke probably because I find it difficult to deal with things in life. *Fortunately* I am on coumadin for life and cannot afford to have a drinking problem. I believ heavy drinking does increase one's risk of stroke, I think it's a fact.

Take care people!

I'm also a cheap date - 2 glasses of wine and I'm plonked!! After some blood tests, my doctor told me that my red blood cells are unusually large and they retain alcohol. Therefore I must be careful what and how much I drink sad.gif I'm not sure if I have always had large blood cells or just post stroke?

Vix-as a doctor i can tell you without any reservation that red blood cells absolutely, positively DO NOT retain alcohol, no matter what size they are. your doctor is probably concerned about your drinking and told you a b******t story to get you to stop/cut back on your drinking. i wish he had been honest with you.

Scott, i admire that you are posting that you had a problem with alcohol and that you went to AA to deal with that problem. my husband goes to AA and NA and has been clean and sober for over 8 years. he has given me permission to post about his addictions and recovery in the hope that it will help others find sobriety. you are the only person that i have seen post about becoming an alcoholic post-stroke and becoming sober in AA, but i'll bet that there are other members of AA/NA lurking here. i go to Al-Anon for over 10 years and have been to a few Nar-Anon meetings at the NA convention that i just got back from.
