One step at a time

We go out to eat all the time to the same place. Most of the waitresses always ask me what my husband wants, I think they worry about making him uncomfortable. He still has problems with his speech. I know it makes him feel bad. He would love it if he could talk clear or quicker. Couple of days ago we had a different waitress she was wonderful. She treated him like he did not have any problems, asked what he want and wait each time for an answer. She never checked with me once. Because of her patience he answered clearly and pretty quickly. So you know who got a good tip don't you. This was the first time he has ordered on his own since the stroke. Another little step forward. Yeah! for Rod. Now I have to get him on this web site and off the TV. I am working on it. Writing sentences are still a problem but he can read so even reading posts would be so good for him. happydance.gif

Be sure to tell him that it is ok if he makes mistakes. As a survivor, I know I make a lot of mistakes. This is a very forgiving group. The Stroke Network has been an important part of my recovery. Hope your husband can join us.

Go for it, he has to start some place, I figure this is the place abd time, congratulations on getting a good waitress this time around. Eating out can be enjoyable for us survivors.

Yippee for Rod! And bless that waitresses heart. That just goes to show that one person can be responsable for setting something good/bad in motion. We all never know what our actions can or will do. I need to remember that in the future!

Just since May this year when Ray had another slight stroke he has had more swallowing difficulties. I find now that when we are eating out we really had to think about what he likes that can be chopped up small enough for him to eat and enjoy.

Aspiration is such a problem if you choke that it takes more effort to eat out when you know that is always a possiblitlty. Good on you both for your fortitude in achieving yet another milestone.

Yes, I'd give the waitress a big tip too!!

Sue.
