P.T. Re-Evaluation

Up until today, I thought I was doing well with my physical therapy.

I have worked hard during my 2 .5 hours per week in out-patient

therapy. And at home I continue to work on the exercises.

However, since I "had a spell or incident" last Thursday, my

spasticity and tremors have become more erratic and I have

experienced more slurred speech. I also have more weakness in my right leg.

Although I didn't go to the ER, the symptoms point to a TIA.

And then Friday, something happened

during therapy which was described to me as a seizure.

I don't know what's going on and at this time no doctor will see me

until my Medical Assistance is approved. My Physical Therapist

could not even work on my walking or standing today, because my balance

is not improving. She actually told me that it is very doubtful that my walking will

progress any further - thus far I am walking with an AFO and a rollator

with assistance.

I have been so sad all day. My Re-evaluation will be done on

Wednesday, Feb 1st. At that time I will learn if my therapy will

be continued or terminated. It is so difficult to stay strong

when disappointments keep coming my way.

Deb,

Rod had the same thing happen to him and it was a seizure problem but, it still could be TIA. You need to see a Dr. will they see you at the ER. If so then go. Since Rod got on the medication he has started to go forward again. Every time a therapist tells him he might not get more back he proves them wrong, my take on it is "it ain't over till it's over". If they stop your therapy it just maybe for a time. Rod has started and stopped more times than I can count.Wishing you well.

Debbie, I don't believe that even a trained therapist can tell for certain that you will not improve. No one knows and many of us have proven them wrong time and time again. I wish people like that would forget their negative thoughts. They could at least say something like It's possible that - - - - -. So, don't feel badly about it and just go on your merry way. Let your brain do it's thing. IT is the BOSS, not the therapist.

In the meantime though, please try toget some help. I can't believe they want to "wait" until you get approval. That really sucks. As someome has said, go to the ER and maybe tell them they would be responsible. You know they fear suits; it doesn't loook good on their record. The most important thing is to get help if you need it when you need it. You know what they say about the squeaky wheel.
