that was the week that was

from a computer keyboard in Brooklyn, NY, currently in Fiji, welcome to another edition of THAT WAS THE WEEK THAT WAS

the temperature this week was a 29 inch blizzard, than 60 degrees, then 9 degrees with the wind chill, now a comfortable 35 degrees and climbing with a mild wind.

the newsworthy events for this week are:

1. my dad was 85 last Saturday. he sand "Happy Birthday (to me, of course) with us (the whole song) and hen blew out one of his two candles. he was upset with the "older than dirt" headband (complete with shovel) that i bought him and placed on his head, but relented when i gave him his two birthday cards, which he was convinced that i didn't get him. my dad is speaking a lot more, many times fluently, although he occasionally derails and can speak only in Rumanian. it's amazing what six weeks of practice to exercise new brain cell connections and the fear of having food taken away from you (first thought my idea, second thought his idea) will do.

2. Within 4 hours of going back to work, John became manic again. he finally called the shrink covering his shrink and had his Seroquel increased on Friday so, after sleeping 14 hours on Friday, he's back down to earth again. i transeferred the money from our account to my business account and took away his American Express card again (he has some wild financial "issues",) and i'm not giving the money and the card back until i am convinced that he's permanently down to earth.

3. my thyroid replacement dose seems to have stabilized at 225 mcg/day, up from 150 mcg/day. once again, i have regained the ability to not gain weight just but thinking about food.

4. i bought two new cellphones on ebay. John wanted a new cellphone, so he is getting a Motorola Razr. in fuschia. he can always put it in a cellphone case.

5. John and i went to a folk concert at People's Voice Cafe last night. the place was packed-most of the old leftists in NYC came out to see Zenobia and Jacque, wh had not performed for years. Odetta was in the audience-she was at least 80 years old, and still had her nails manicured and her hair styled. separated by some totally awful songs that my freind's cousin Ben wrote and sang, the group sang "The Times They Are A-Changing," "The Cruel War," and "Let The Sunshine In'" from HAIR. A good time was had by all, even if some of the audience weren't quite sure of where they were or who they were.

until next week...

Sandy,

I'm glad you guys got the 29 inches and not us. Our weather hasn't been an picnic but at least I haven't had to shove a lot.
