Today at therapy I sorta graduated, I have been staying home alone during the day since Oct. But using my wheelchair to get around.Today my PT said, it's time for you to start walking. So now I'll be using my hemi-walker or quadcane to get around the house. My hubby is still nervous. So he rigged something up so I can wear my cell phone on a strap around my neck. He's the best. :wub2:

hey Ruthie:

great, more you walk around better for your recovery, ur leg will realise oh i have to take weight on this leg, falling is part of learning to walk.

before leaving from rehab I learnt how to get up from floor, since then I m never afraid of falling as long as I can get up from floor, it becomes so easy for everyone to roamaround without wheelchair. I guess I was quite adamant on not using wheelchair or cane, so I acheived both of those goals rigt after I came home, though still have falls on miscalculation and judgement on my part, but hey I m still learning, game is not over till they crement me :)

Remember to keep your shoulders UP, stand up straight as you can, no leaning over. insure your hemi or quad is adjusted properly for your height. Oh, remember to rest when you feel tired. It worked for me.

Your husband sounds like my wife. She is so nervous to leave me alone. When she leaves for work she calls me before she even gets there. Sometimes it drives me nuts but I figure if the tables were turned I'd probably bee the same.
