OK, ANOTHER SONG

WHO KNOWS WHY I AM LISTENING TO MUSIC AGAIN. I DIDN'T FOR TWO YEARS ( POST STROKE) TILL NOW THE LAST FEW MONTHS. HERE'S ONE I HAVE NEVER EVER FIGURED OUT THE MEANING. IT IS "HOTEL CALIFORNIA". JEAN WILL HAVE TO NAME THE AUTHOR BECAUSE IT IS BEYOND MY MEMORY. I AM SURE I COULD SIGN OUT, LOOK IT UP ON THE NET, BUT LET'S FACE IT *** I AM TOO LAZY AT THIS MOMENT****

LOL :D

THE MAIN PART OF THE LYRICS WHICH INTRIGUE ME ARE ....." YOU CAN CHECK OUT ANYTIME YOU LIKE, BUT YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE...." :cocktail:

OK, DOES THIS MEAN THAT AFTER A STROKE OR BRAIN INJURY THAT YOU CAN "CHECK OUT"???? WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN. IT ALSO SAYS....."BUT YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE....". DOES THAT MEAN THAT YOU CAN GET BETTER, BUT YOU ARE ALWAYS "BRAIN INJURED?. DOES IT MEAN THAT YOU CAN HIDE IT FROM THE WORLD, BUT YOU KNOW YOURSELF THAT YOU WILL NEVER BE THE SAME?. :uhm:

DOES IT MEAN THAT IT'S ABOUT SUBSTANCE ADDICTION AND THAT IF YOU "STOP", IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE? DOES IT MEAN THAT IF YOU HAVE A HORRIBLE LIFE SECRET THAT YOU CAN PRETEND IT DOESN'T EXIST, BUT IT ALWAYS DOES?. DOES IT MEAN THAT YOU CAN GO TO HELL, FOR BEING BAD, TRY TO COME BACK BUT CAN'T?DOES IT MEAN THAT IF YOU DIE AND COME BACK, LIKE I DID WITH THE STROKE, THAT I SHOULD HAVE STAYED DEAD? I DUNNO. THIS SONG SCARES ME BECAUSE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DEEPER MEANING.

SECOND THOUGHT. ***DOES IT MATTER?******* LOL

ANY THOUGHTS?

KIM :uhm: :uhm: :uhm: :uhm: :uhm: :uhm: :uhm: :uhm:

:wub2: Kim.... If I knew ALL the lyrics to the song, I would probably get a clue to the message the words are conveying but,

I don't think it really very important because the person who wrote the lyrics is expressing his "perception" of reality.

You don't have to be scared! Never think you "should of stayed dead", it's quite the opposite!!!

Take care

I think the whole song makes perfect sense if you put it in the drug culture...checking out is a metaphor shooting up, a way to leave your problems behind for a little while but... "We are all just prisoners here Of our own device.." The Hotel California is drug seducing a person to come "check in" and once you check in you can't "check out" because you are addicted. That's my interruptation of the song, anyway.

I don't understand how you get anything out of this song that relates to having a stroke.

The Eagle's Song, The Hotel California

On a dark desert highway

Cool wind in my hair

Warm smell of colitas

Rising up through the air

Up ahead in the distance

I saw a shimmering light

My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim

I had to stop for the night

There she stood in the doorway

I heard the mission bell

And I was thinking to myself

This could be Heaven or this could be Hell

Then she lit up a candle

And she showed me the way

There were voices down the corridor

I thought I heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel California

Such a lovely place

Such a lovely place (background)

Such a lovely face

Plenty of room at the Hotel California

Any time of year

Any time of year (background)

You can find it here

You can find it here

Her mind is Tiffany twisted

She's got the Mercedes bends

She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys

That she calls friends

How they dance in the courtyard

Sweet summer sweat

Some dance to remember

Some dance to forget

So I called up the Captain

Please bring me my wine

He said

We haven't had that spirit here since 1969

And still those voices are calling from far away

Wake you up in the middle of the night

Just to hear them say

Welcome to the Hotel California

Such a lovely Place

Such a lovely Place (background)

Such a lovely face

They're livin' it up at the Hotel California

What a nice surprise

What a nice surprise (background)

Bring your alibies

Mirrors on the ceiling

Pink champagne on ice

And she said

We are all just prisoners here

Of our own device

And in the master's chambers

They gathered for the feast

They stab it with their steely knives

But they just can't kill the beast

Last thing I remember

I was running for the door

I had to find the passage back to the place I was before

Relax said the nightman

We are programed to recieve

You can check out any time you like

But you can never leave

Yup, definitely from the drug era those Eagles were. Always liked the song, beat never really listened to the words. Thanks Jean for putting in perspective. I don't think it has anything to do with a stroke either just getting high and whatever.

Yup, the drug filled 70's.... plus, Hotel California could be a mental Institute. You can check out but they aren't releasing ya.

Hey Kim

I sing all the time, often spontaneously, I find the words of the song I am singing aren't relevant as a whole but a phrase in the song will have REAL SIGNIFICANCE. I think this is what you have hit on here.

In your world yo can "never leave" no matter how much you want to leave the stroke behind you can't. But you can redesign your own world, we all can. So sit down and think what you can do with what you've got ( including home, family, time etc) and see if you can make it more like what you want it to be.

Interpreting dreams and visions in your head is a very old problem but an interestiing one. You might even be able to find someone to help you with some relaxation techniques that will help slow your thoughts down so you can "see" them more clearly and work on what you REALLY want to do.

Good thought just having a stone massage....mmmmm :I-Agree:

Well Kim, I see this is Blog post number one for you, so I say welcome to the neighbor Blog community. Now it's time for some Humor in your blog!!

I tried to figure out why you were listening to music again, as you said who knows. Well I finally got the answer: "You left your heart in San Francisco", you stayed at the Fairmont Hotel, I was the doorman, but I won't tell our members "the rest of the story." That's another Blog entry.

this is what i found on "Hotel California"

Hotel California

Claim: The Eagles song "Hotel California" is about Satanism.

Status: False.

Origins: The Hotel California album cover Eagles' 1976 album "Hotel California" has sold more than 16 million copies, spawned a best-record Grammy, and is regarded by numerous rock critics as one of the best albums ever. Its title track, the haunting "Hotel California" continues to entrance listeners even though during its heydey the song was on the charts for only nineteen weeks and in the number one spot for only one.

Because its lyrics contain an ominous undercurrent, many have appeased their sense of disquiet by finding in the words literal and figurative meanings that just aren't there. Theories abound as to what the song means. Some see the devil in the lyrics. Others see a madhouse.

Some believe the song was written about a real inn bearing that name. Though there is a Hotel California in Todos Santos, a town on Mexico's Baja California peninsula, its relation to the song begins and ends with the coincidence of a shared name. None of the Eagles stayed there, let alone wrote music there. Nor did they have this building in mind when they set down the lyrics to this popular song.

Those who persist in believing the song must be named after an actual building have been known to assert "Hotel California" was the nickname of the Camarillo State Hospital, a state-run psychiatric hospital near Los Angeles which housed thousands of patients across its sixty-year history before closing in 1997. To them, the lyrics seem to fit what a mentally disturbed person would experience upon incarceration in a long-term care facility. The imagery of the song is explained as that person's hallucinations juxtaposed against moments of startling clarity as he realizes where he is.

However, by far the most common theme to surface in Hotel California rumors is one that links the song to devil worship. The lyrics (which speak of trying to "kill the Beast" and not having had "that spirit here since 1969") form the bedrock of the various Satan-related theories, but the belief is also fed by the album design. The inner cover is a photograph of people in a courtyard of a Spanish-looking inn. In a balcony above them looms a shadowy figure with arms spread. Many who look at that photo see Anton LaVey, leader of the Church of Satan, and interpret the spread arms as his welcoming the populace below into Satan's trap. That the people in the picture seem unaware of the gleefully evil figure standing above them only adds to the implicit horror of the scene

I have brain damage too---born with it---but I'm glad you got a great laugh out of my dyslexia word search problems. I do like to entertain when I write. :D

Why did you say you were you being facetious when you wrote this blog relating the song to your stroke?

DOES IT MEAN THAT IT'S ABOUT SUBSTANCE ADDICTION AND THAT IF YOU "STOP", IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE? DOES IT MEAN THAT IF YOU HAVE A HORRIBLE LIFE SECRET THAT YOU CAN PRETEND IT DOESN'T EXIST, BUT IT ALWAYS DOES?.

to question one, yes. once you "cross the line" and have a diagnosis of substance dependence, your brian chemistry is altered in such a way that yhe only way you can "get over it" is to be abstinent. because so little is known about cross-substance dependence, it is advisable to be abstinent from all substances (alcohol, drugs of abuse) until medical science learns more about these dependences. it's harder when your driug of abuse is food, since you have to eat to survive.

to question two, yes. of you yourself are in deep denial of a secret, and do not process it, it always turns around and bites you in the a**.

jean,

i was being facetious, because it MAKES NO SENSE. ..."you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave?".

THAT SCARES ME. i checked out when i died from my brain injury, BUT I AM STILL HERE,??????? did i never leave, or could i if i wanted? the weird thing is that while i was unconscience, in a coma, WHATEVER, (THEY STILL DON'T KNOW) i COULDN'T MOVE OR TALK BUT UNDERSTOOD EVERYTHING BEING SAID ABOUT ME. IT WAS horrible........" she has no physical response, she's brain dead, she won't live, ..........ON AND ON AD INFINTUM.

sometimes i tried to scream....." I AM IN HERE, STOP TALKING ABOUT ME LIKE I A DEAD, I AM ALIVE AND CAN COME BACK...................."

you don't understand that i believe this silly song because you never had aphasia, i know don does. but having it yourself is QUITE another thing sweetie. i know i am "lucky" mine was only a month or so, BUT THAT WAS WAY WAY WAY WAY more than enough.

you say this song has nothing to do with stroke, i BEG to differ. there were many times i KNOW i could have given up and checked out. obviously i did not.

i didn't realize you had dyslexia and brain damage yourself. i would have never made a joke, you just ticked me off. i am sorry bout the rude pun.
