SLEEP WALK AND TALK

Guest

I HAVE BEEN A SLEEP WALKER AND TALKER MY WHOLE LIFE. I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO COOK MEALS AND CLEAN THE HOUSE, CARRIED ON COMPLETE CONVERSATIONS, EATEN, GONE TO THE BATHROOM IN THE CLOSET, YOU NAME IT I HAVE DONE IT. GRANTED, THE "MEALS" CONSISTED OF LIKE DUMPING AN ENTIRE FROZEN CHICKEN, PAPER STILL ON, IN A FRYING PAN. CLEANING THE HOUSE CONSISTED OF TURNING ON THE VACUUM( AND LEAVING IT ON) BUT I STILL TRIED.

I RELY ON WHAT OTHERS TELL ME I DO OR SAY BECAUSE I NEVER HAVE ANY MEMORY OF IT AT ALL. SOMETIMES, I SEE THE REMNANTS OF WHAT I DID LIKE OPENED CONTAINERS IN THE FRIDGE, CANDY WRAPPERS ON THE FLOOR , OR A SPOON IN THE ICECREAM. MY MOTHER DOES THIS AS WELL. SHE IS MAINLY A TALKER THOUGH. ONCE SHE "WOKE UP" WHILE MY SISTERS AND I WERE WATCHING A MOVIE AND ACCUSED US OF LAUGHING ABOUT HER TOENAILS AND THEN KONKED RIGHT BACK OUT.

:dribble: :dribble:

I COMPLTELY QUIT DOING THIS AFTER THE STROKE UNTIL****** TODAY. I WAS DEAD CAT TIRED (THAT'S WORSE THAN DEAD DOG TIRED) AND LAY DOWN TO TAKE A NAP. WHEN I WOKE UP, THE BF WAS LAUGHING, POKING FUN, AND TELLING ME EVERYTHING I SAID AND DID. HE KNEW I HAD DONE THIS IN THE PAST BUT HAD NEVER WITNESSED IT. HE SAID AT FIRST HE THOUGHT I WAS AWAKE, AND QUICKLY REALIZED I WAS *NOT*. :giggle:

FIRST I SAT STRAIGHT UP AND SAID" IT'S FREEZING IN HERE". I AM ALWAYS HOT SO THAT WAS HIS FIRST CLUE. HE COVERED ME UP AND FIVE MINUTES LATER I SAID" IT'S HOT AS HELL IN HERE". THEN I GOT UP, CHANGED CLOTHES, WITH THE SHIRT ON BACKWARDS, AND GOT BACK IN BED AND WENT FAST ASLEEP. THEN I "RE-WOKE UP", AND STARTED TALKING ABOUT HOW MUCH FUN WE HAD AT A PARK I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO AT ALL, MUCH LESS WITH HIM. I HAD READ ABOUT IT EARLIER IN THE DAY. HE SAID I DID SOMETHING ELSE, BUT HE WON'T TELL ME WHAT. KEEPS LAUGHING ABOUT IT THOUGH. I HOPE AND PRAY I DIDN'T USE THE CLOSET AS A TOILET AGAIN. :dribble:

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I AM DOING THIS AGAIN. I HATE NOT HAVING CONTROL OVER WHAT I DO AND SAY. IT'S FREAKY. ( AND OFTEN TIMES EMBARRASSING). I HOPE I'M NOT A "SLEEP BLOGGER", LOL. :hehehe:

FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ABOUT IT, SLEEP WALKERS DON'T DO ANYTHING LIKE THEY WOULD WHEN THEY ARE AWAKE, ESPECIALLY ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES SKILL. LIKE WHEN THAT MAN USED IT AS AN INSANITY DEFENSE WHEN HE DROVE UP THE ROAD AND STABBED HIS INLAWS TO DEATH AND HE HAD NO REASON FOR DOING THIS. HE LOVED THEM, FROM ALL REPORTS. HE LOST HIS CASE. I WONDER JUST WHAT ALL I **WOULD** DO IN MY SLEEP AND ACTUALLY, IT'S FRIGHTENING. I HAVE ONLY GONE OUTSIDE ONCE( THAT I KNOW OF) AND MY SISTER FOLLWED ME. I WENT TO A STORAGE ROOM, AND WAS ABOUT TO USE IT AS A BATHROOM WHEN SHE WOKE ME UP.

:giggle:

OH WELL, MAYBE I SHOULD START GOING TO THE RESTROOM *BEFORE* I GO TO SLEEP NOW THAT I AM DOING IT AGAIN. I HAD BF INSTALL A PRIVACY LOCK HIGH UP ON THE DOOR WHERE I CAN'T REACH IT FOR WHEN I AM ASLEEP. I SURE DON'T WANT TO WAKE UP FACING AN EIGHTEEN WHEELER ON THE DESOLATE HIGHWAY.

NIGHT NIGHT :cloud9:

Man Kim it sounds like you had an interesting life and night. As I was reading your blog I was trying to think of what you can do to safeguard yourself from leaving the house but the lock high up sounds like a good idea. Question it raises though is if you know it's there before you sleep won't you at least attempt to unlock the door?

As for you bathroom thing your right about making sure that is the last thing you do before you sleep :bouncing_off_wall: , because you will only mimic the act instead of actually doing it.

Kim,

Sleep walking again is probably a sign of your brain healing. Unfortunately healing isn't all it's cracked up to be. :yikes:

.

Kim,

You probably already know all the stuff below about sleepwalking that I found in an article at http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic638.htm But for those of us who know nothing about it I thought the following information there about what can cause sleepwalking in adults was interesting.

My brother was a sleepwalker for most of his childhood and I found it interesting that the reasons listed for sleepwalking in children at this site haven't changed since he was doing it back in the 40s. I'll have to ask him if he still does it.

Environmental: Sleep deprivation, chaotic sleep schedules, fever, stress, magnesium deficiency, and chemical or drug intoxication (eg, alcohol), sedative/hypnotics (eg, Zolpidem), antidepressants (eg, bupropion, paroxetine, amitriptyline), neuroleptics (eg, lithium, reboxetine), minor tranquilizers, stimulants, antibiotics (eg, fluoroquinolone), anti-Parkinson medications (eg, levodopa), anticonvulsants (eg, topiramate), and antihistamines can trigger parasomnias.

Physiologic: Conditions such as pregnancy and menstruation are known to increase frequency in patients with parasomnias.

Associated medical conditions:

Arrhythmias

Chronic paroxysmal hemicrania

Migraine

Fever

Gastroesophageal reflux

Nocturnal asthma

Nocturnal seizures

Chronic sleepwalking, especially in adults, is frequently associated with sleep-disordered breathing. Treatment of the sleep-disordered breathing with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or surgery typically improves or resolves the sleepwalking. Noncompliance with CPAP is associated with persistence or recurrence of sleepwalking. Serotonin has been postulated as the physiologic link between these two disorders.

Psychiatric disorders:

Posttraumatic stress disorder

Panic attack

Dissociative states

Hyperthyroidism: Thyrotoxicosis has been associated with an increased incidence of sleepwalking, and achievement of euthyroidism is associated with improvement or resolution of the symptoms. Sleepwalking may occur as an early symptom, and the onset of sleepwalking in a patient out of the normal expected age range should be evaluated for hyperthyroidism. The mechanism for the sleepwalking is considered to be increased fatigue in combination with longer periods of non-REM sleep.

I wonder if one morning you awake and never sleep walk again is possible?? Meaning is there a med for hyperthyroidism? If the Merck drug company could classify it as a disease, they would develop a drug to treat it.

JEAN,

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. I HAD HEARD ABOUT ALL OF IT EXCEPT WHAT I ASSUME IS LIKE SLEEP APNEA. I PROBABLY HAVE THAT BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS WAKED UP GASPING FOR AIR AT NIGHT FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. I SNORE LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN, EVEN AS A CHILD. MY WHOLE FAMILY SNORES, EVEN MY 7 YEAR OLD NEICE.

INTERESTING THOUGHT AS MOST OF THE OTHER DOESN'T APPLY. PERHAPS IT'S A COMBINATION, I DUJNNO, I JUST WANT IT TO STOP!!!!

LIN, I NEVERTHOUGHT OF IT THAT WAY. MAYBE IT IS HEALING, I CAN STAND THE SLEEP WALKING IF THAT IS THE CASE!!!

SHELIA, AS HIGH UP AS THAT LOCK IS, I WOULD HAVE TO FIND A CHAIR, STAND ON IT, AND UNLOCK THAT DOOR. I SEE THAT AS TOO SKILLED TO DO IN MY SLEEP TRANCE. I HOPE SO!!!

FRED, I GUARANTEE YOU IF THAT COULD BE CLASSIFIED AS A DISEASE THE MAJOR DRUG COMPANIES WOUD JUMP ON IT LIKE A TICK TO A BLOOD HOUND!!!!!!

OH WELL, I AM GOING TO TRY AND GET MORE REGULAR SLEEP AND HOPE FOR THE BEST TILL I CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.
