We're still here!

I can't believe how long it's been since we posted.

Nothing wrong, just "life" taking up our time!

As I've come to expect, Rolly has good days and bad days, and after a year I think I finally realize how "optimistic" I was when the first few days and weeks I told everyone how lucky we were that it was a "minor" stroke. I truly didn't realize the ramifications it would have on our life, since he didn't have what I considered the "typical" stroke aftermath---paralysis, speech problems, etc.

But now, after more than a year of living with the stroke and it's seeminly permanent effect on our life, I see the limitations he has, the fatigue that is still with him constantly, and the irritability and shortness that often pops up. But does it beat the alternative? Heck yeah!

And life goes on.....

Thanks, Asha!

I agree, they "suck" but what can you do, this is what life dealt us and we have to make the best of it or, as Jean says, the stroke wins!

It's just harder to do some days. And we're only a year into this. I don't know how some of you have done it for year upon year upon year. My hat's off to all of you!

I thought you guys had moved up on the hillside into one of those California mansions with many rooms and a view of the ocean. I would have to get this :plane: to get up to see you all.

Hey Susan,

Glad to see your blog. I know for myself I feel like I've always been this way. So therefore it is easy to just keep going and tackling every day and fighting the fight every day.

Glad you both are well.

Everyone says the first year is the worst and they are right. But now it is time to help that tired feeling go away, in Rolly and in yourself by adding some new ingredients into your life. I know it is hard when you work as well. :(

In our first year we gave up so much. When work went so did our income, the rehab took time so lots of friend went, even family suffered as we only gave them our leftover time. I felt as if life as I knew it would never be happy again. <_<

Then we took up the coach holidays. They were compact, we could go for just a week or longer, all meals, entries, excursions etc were organised and pre-paid. So it was something new that was partly a rest, partly a change of scenery. That gave me new ideas of what to do at home and inspired some of the other things we did as we talked to other "retired" folk about their life changing experiences. :chat:

We also added water therapy and bowling in our second year. You will find the new things that are right for you, look around, ask yourself what you miss the most and how you can build that into your present life together. Sue, I m saying these things to inspire you to use your summer to the full, get out and about, visit friends, see new landscape, try to renew old acquaintances. Just have some fun. :)

Sue. :cheer:
