A FRIEND'S WAKE

THIS MORNING I HAD TWO DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS TO GET TEST RESULTS. NOTHING NEW EXCEPT THOSE AILMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH OLD AGE (I MEAN AGING). IT KEPT MY MIND OFF FACING THE FUNERAL HOME IN THE AFTERNOON.

 

WELL, I FOUND THE COURAGE TO GO AND PRAYED THE CASKET WOULD BE CLOSED. NOBODY HEARD MY PRAYERS AND THE CASKET WAS OPEN. I VOWED TO BE STRONG AND MADE IT THROUGH FINE ACKNOWLEDGING HIS WIFE, CHILDREN, AND OTHER RELATIVES. THAT IS UNTIL HIS MOTHER CAME UP AND GAVE ME A BIG HUG. I JUST LOST IT. MY WIFE WORRIED THAT I WOULD HAVE ANOTHER STROKE. (i TOLD HER WE SHOULD GO HOME IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE SEX, BECAUSE SEX WON'T CAUSE A STROKE.)

 

BACK TO REALITY. WHAT A SHAME TO LEAVE ALL THOSE WONDERFUL PEOPLE WITH NOTHING BUT MEMORIES. IT'S SO UNFAIR. FOR MY OWN WELL-BEING I'M GOING TO SKIP THE FUNERAL. I SAID GOODBY.

Marty, I can understand your wanting to skip the funeral but in truth, a funeral and even the flowers are not for the deceased but for the living survivors. They are the ones who need the help. I'm sure they will understand though having seen how it "hit" you today.

BESIDES PHYL, AT THE DOCTOR'S YESTERDAY, WE DISCUSSED THIS. HE ADVISED ME NOT TO ATTEND. BECAUSE DANNY WAS A VET.,THERE WAS GOING TO BE A LONG OUTSIDE GRAVESITE CEREMONY. MY MEDS COMBINED WITH 100 DEGREE TEMPERATURES WOULD NOT BE A GOOD MIX.

Smart decision Marty!

 

You've paid your respects to the family and honored your friend in the process. You have and will grieve in your own way and grief is a really personal thing anyway, don't you think? Soon you will be able to remember some good, funny experiences you shared.

 

Think good thoughts today, Marty, and please know you're in my prayers.

The end of life IS very sad, that's why its important to live every moment, like its your last & to practice this - its not the amount of breaths we take in life that matter, but its the things in life that took our breath away , i. e. new baby, marriage, etc
