The Real Thing- Day 2

Well today was the real deal. My day started at 6 am with a shower(finally- no water yesterday). I arrived at 7:10 and started to get ready for the day. Homeroom was from 7:30 - 8:10. I was to give out never-ending forms that have to be signed and the collected and give out locker combinations. I let some of my students pass out some of the papers - I usually do that myself. I walked around and gave each student their locker combination and then it was time to go try them out. As happens every year some of the combinations were wrong andso during the day, everyone was able to use thier locker-instead of my room. I could have made big bucks selling backpacks! Needless to say I made it through homeroom.

Next was Algebra II, I passed out rules and some students passed out books. I went over all of the rules and my expectations for my students. I told them that I had had a stroke in Novermber, that it didn't affect my mind only my arm and leg-I just don't move as fast as I used to. I had planned on using an overhead projector for my notes, but I just couldn't stay away from the board. I like to ask the students questions as I do a problem and the overhead just isn't the same. I had another Algebra II and a PreCalculus class and I felt that all went very well for the first day. I thought my students were very understanding and helpful.

I came home about 1pm and had lunch and just finished doing my exercises. Tomorrow I am going to try to stay the entire day and go to the fitness room.

Darlene,

I hope you are as excited about being back to work as I am for you. I'm glad the kids were understanding and helpful. I'm sure there has to be few of them who have grandparents who've had strokes or other serious health issues who will be pulling for your more than others.

Hope you have a great school year! You almost didn't get the chance.
