12 step recovery program

I find writting still a little difficult. Like a lot of things that require my brain it's so slow. On the other hand i am looking for material that would involve using my brain. Before my stroke I was a member of AA for the best part of 20 years. Now I find it difficult sitting through a meeting, too many people. My problems are now related to stroke issues and i would like very much to be involved with a "Stroke Group 12 Step Recovery Group"

Julie,

Strokenet can be like coming to a AA meeting. Truly, it can. We form friends here on the message board and in the blogs by posting or blog problems we're dealing with and also learn to give support back when you're able. We also come here to celebrate the little changes that others don't always understand the importance of in our day-to-day world.

Anyway, welcome to the blogs! We are like a little family back here.

Julie,

Even though you don't feel comfortable at a "live" meeting, there are some great resources on the web for recovery opportunities. I've found this site to be a great source of strength and comfort. Since you've been an AA member for so many years, I hope you have a sponsor you can keep in touch with too. I have opportunities galore to work the steps as my husband's caregiver. He still enjoys going to meetings and I take him several times a week - not necessarily for the meeting, but for the fellowship. We've found a reasonably small meeting where he doesn't feel uncomfortable. I'm their "token" al-anon and they've welcomed me with open arms, reminding me I need to take care of Ann. So, I'll remind you - you need to take care of Julie!!!

Warmly,
